An Analysis Of The Class Method Of Piano Instruction, Zoe Ann Abrahamson

This study has analyzed the merits of class piano instruction for the purpose of suggesting effective curriculum and group teaching technics. When compared with the aims of private instruction, the goals and purposes of the class approach placed more emphasis upon group dynamics as a means of developing better musical understanding.

Suggestions were offered pertaining to grouping, class management, goals, approaches, and course content for pre-piano musicianship classes, for piano classes comprised of seven and eight year old children, and for adult piano classes. A Preliminary Faunal Study Of The Upper Little Sioux River, Richard V. Bovbjerg, Nancy L. Pearsall, Michael L. Brackin

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Several stations of the Little Sioux River were sampled from the Minnesota headwaters to the confluence of Milford Creek. The river changes from intermittent, ponded headwaters to continuously flowing stretches with a concomitant shift in the fauna of increasing downstream diversity of species. While the study of only one summer is reported here, it is hoped that further studies on this and other rivers would be encouraged so that biologists will have a biotic baseline to follow future changes and hopefully to be the basis for suggested water quality control of the future.

Foreign Studies; an elective course for junior and senior students; is a study of selected Asian cultures; including the nations of China; Japan; and India; and of African cultures; including the nations of Nigeria; Ethiopia; and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Asia and Africa are studied from the American cultural viewpoint with emphasis upon the three concepts of culture; ideology; and the comparison of traditional and modern society. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the curriculum at Dakota Christian High School (DCHS) was meeting the needs of its graduates. An auxiliary purpose_ was to share with the National Union of Christian Schools the findings of the study so that all member schools could have access to the information and thereby improve their own program or interest them in such an evaluation. The data was gathered by use of a questionnaire. Copies of the questionnaire were sent to most of the graduates of the ten graduating classes of DCHS. Two things essential for the development of experimental science are the cooperation of many workers and the keeping of careful records of their work. A major problem for the experimental scientists of the seventeenth century was the lack of both cooperative effort and systematic records. The scientific work early in this century was scattered, intermittent, and recorded, if at all, haphazardly. The purpose of this paper is to show how Henry Oldenburg, during his first five years as secretary to the Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge, developed patterns of communication which brought the experimental philosophers together to …

County Seats Of Northeast Iowa: A Multivariate Classification, William E. Blake

The purpose of the study was to classify, or group, the fifteen county seats of northeast Iowa according to selected demographic, social, and economic phenomena. To achieve such groupings various methods and techniques of multivariate analysis were utilized. The desire to group the county seats based upon their likenesses or homogeneous traits was paramount. A brief historical overview of Iowa, and a discussion of the reasons for county seat selection, were used to set the background for a multivariate classification of northeast Iowa county seats. Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Each semester I arrange a seminar of a dozen or so students who meet one evening a week in the living room of the house. I try to select students with different interests, from different departments of the university, with the idea of getting to know a small but varied sample of the student body. We decide on some topic for discussion during the semester, but whatever the official topic, two subjects - education and sex - always come up, and always generate heated arguments.
