Modern anatomy can be divided into three stages. The first stage, the dawn of modern anatomy, came in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, largely as a result of the work of two men, Leonardo da Vinci and Vesalius.

Bull Bison Behavior Traits, Daniel M. Herrig, Arnold O. Haugen

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Behavior of bull bison (Bison bison bison) was studied during June, July, and August 1968 at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge, Valentine, Nebraska. Ingestive, eliminative, grooming, sexual, agonistic and investigative behavior patterns were observed. Movement patterns and interspecific relationships were also observed.

Inner-City Education: Are We Failing?, William H. Dreier, John M. Earls

Faculty Publications

These collected papers and reports; many taken from the Professional Education Seminar at the University of Northern Iowa; concentrate on the failure of inner-city education. A number of essays attempt to analyze the role of teachers; administrators; and communities in the failure of inner-city education. Also; there are several field reports on specific cities. Teacher preparation for working with disadvantaged black students in an urban setting is discussed at length. (Editor/JW)

Each semester I arrange a seminar of a dozen or so students who meet one evening a week in the living room of the house. I try to select students with different interests, from different departments of the university, with the idea of getting to know a small but varied sample of the student body. We decide on some topic for discussion during the semester, but whatever the official topic, two subjects - education and sex - always come up, and always generate heated arguments.

The Status Of Science Teaching Facilities In Iowa Museums, Dean F. Straffin

Only a very few of Iowa's museums offer valuable resources for science teaching. Of the museums recognized in this survey as having a high degree of value in terms of science education, the scope of their potential use as teaching aids is limited to the "natural sciences" embracing such subjects as geology, astronomy, biology, zoology and the field of anthropology. No Iowa museum reviewed in this survey seems to be of any notable value in the teaching of the "hard" sciences such as chemistry or physics, i.e., there are virtually no permanent or semi-permanent "science and industry" type exhibits in …

This report contains a summary of the major goals and policies, the programmed space requirements for 15,000 students, and alternative concepts for physical development of the university at the 15,000-student level. The derivation of these concepts concludes Phase 1 of the Comprehensive Campus Plan.

Observations On Behavior Of Lone Bull Bison, Wayne A. Fisher

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Behavior of lone bull American bison (Bison bison bison) was studied during June, July and August 1966, at the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park, Medora, North Dakota. Ingestive, shelter-seeking, grooming, agonistic, sexual, eliminative and investigative behavior patterns were observed. The sociological relationship of the lone bull to the bison herd was also observed.

Perceptions Of The Iowa School Counselor Concerning The Value Of His Counselor Education In Relation To The Role He Performs, Virginia Larson Hash

This study was devoted to an examination of the subjective perceptions held by counselors within the state of Iowa relative to the value of their counselor education for meeting the demands of their work. Factors investigated included: (1) the professional preparation of the Iowa school counselor; (2) the possibility of identifying a professional core of education for school counselors; (3) the appropriateness of preparatory courses for the performance of the job as perceived by the counselor; and (4) the counselor's perceptions of the relative importance of various specialized roles and functions.
