Drafts Of Resolution By Representative Burdick Regarding Pool Level Of Garrison Dam Reservoir, Undated, Usher Burdick
Usher Burdick Papers
This undated document, presumably by United States (US) Representative Usher L. Burdick, appears to consist of two drafts of a resolution intended to be introduced in the United States (US) House of Representatives during the first session of the 84th Congress, by Burdick.
The resolution begins with the complaint that the US Corp of Army Engineers, acting on its own and in violation of several stipulations of the original act authorizing the construction of the Garrison Dam, has decided to increase the water pool area by 6,000,000 acre-feet and the raise the surface height of the pool by twenty feet. …

Speech Draft By Representative Burdick Regarding Garrison Dam And Fort Berthold, Usher Burdick
Usher Burdick Papers
This undated speech draft, by United States House Representative Usher Burdick, addresses issues surrounding the building of Garrison Dam and the proposed higher pool level. Burdick contends that the higher pool level is not legal, and he notes that the flood control will be of no benefit to the Upper Missouri River Valley, where the damage from the Garrison Dam will affect North Dakota people and cities. Burdick then speaks to the problems the dam will cause for the tribal members of the Fort Berthold Reservation. Burdick asserts that the higher pool level will result in about forty percent of …

Usher Burdick Papers
This undated public statement from the office of United States Representative Usher L. Burdick, discusses the possibility of giving some of the stockpile of coal in the Garrison Dam area of North Dakota to the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs for distribution to reservations so that "Freezing Indians" can use it. This is draft has many handwritten notes and emendations.

Human expansion into the solar system is currently at the forefront of space research. For our astronauts to survive, they will need to be fed a healthy and nutritious diet on a consistent basis. Right now, our current method of feeding astronauts consists of resupplied prepackaged food from Earth, which is unsustainable for long-term missions. Using planetary resources via in situ resource utilization to grow crops is the next step toward sustainability in space. Asteroids are an abundant space resource and should not be overlooked when considering crewed missions. In particular, the primordial CI carbonaceous asteroids are of interest because …

In 2020, the US Supreme Court's decision on McGirt v. Oklahoma established that much of the eastern part of the state of Oklahoma is Indigenous land and therefore falls under either tribal jurisdiction or Federal jurisdiction. The calcium carbonate (CaCO3) scale is one of the most common oilfield scales and oil and gas production bane. CaCO3 scale can lead to a sudden halt in production or, worst-case scenario, accidents; therefore, CaCO3 scale formation prevention is essential for the oil and gas industry. Scale inhibitors are chemicals that can mitigate this problem. We used two popular theoretical techniques in this study: Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics (AIMD). The objective was to investigate the inhibitory abilities of mixed oligomers, specifically acrylamide functionalized silica (AM-Silica). DFT studies indicate that Ca2+ does not bind readily to …

To better evaluate the feasibility of applying produced gas injection for EOR in the BPS (Bakken petroleum system) under realistic constraints, a series of field data analyses, modeling/simulations, and experimental activities were performed in this study to fulfill the following two objectives: 1. Design a pilot test to evaluate the technical feasibility of increasing oil production through EOR from the Bakken pool utilizing produced gas while accounting for well interference effects. 2. Investigate a variety of HnP strategies to improve gas injection and oil production performance, as well as maximize achievable EOR benefits with a limited volume of gas that …

Drone use has been rapidly increasing in protected areas in North America, and potential impacts on terrestrial megafauna have been largely unstudied. We evaluated behavioral responses to drones on two terrestrial charismatic species, feral horse (Equus caballus) and bison (Bison bison), at Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota, United States) in 2018. Using a Trimble UX5 fixed-wing drone, we performed two flights at 120 m above ground level (AGL), one for each species, and recorded video footage of their behaviors prior to, during, and after the flight. Video footage was analyzed in periods of 10 s intervals, and the occurrence …
