This case report highlights the rehabilitation of a patient following an Achilles rupture and surgical repair, who underwent a physical therapy treatment program, focusing on interventions to increase function, strength, and return to activity.

COVID-19 has been most devastating to the elderly and those living in dense communities, which disproportionately affects American Indians as they are medically underserved. American Indians tend to live in multigenerational housing which puts them at higher risk for transmission of COVID-19. To determine other risk factors and the long-term physical and mental health impacts of COVID-19 on American Indians, a literature review was completed using metaanalyses and case studies. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is becoming a more common diagnosis during pregnancy. GDM is defined as glucose intolerance diagnosed during pregnancy. Women diagnosed with GDM during pregnancy are at an increased risk for emergent or planned cesarean section delivery and the development of overt diabetes mellitus post pregnancy. Complications related to GDM include eclampsia, macrosomia, shoulder dystocia, stillbirth, and cesarean section delivery. Background and Purpose: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is characterized by musculoskeletal-related knee pain localized to the anterior retropatellar and/or peripatellar area of the knee. Microfilariae (MF) are the immature stages of filarial nematode parasites and inhabit the blood and dermis of all classes of vertebrates, except fish. Concurrent ingestion of MF and arboviruses by mosquitoes can enhance mosquito transmission of virus compared to when virus is ingested alone. Shortly after being ingested, MF penetrate the mosquito’s midgut and may introduce virus into the mosquito’s hemocoel, creating a disseminated viral infection much sooner than normal. This phenomenon is known as microfilarial enhancement. Background and Purpose: A bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a surgical procedure that has seen success in managing end-stage osteoarthritis of the knee joint. This case study evaluates the usefulness of physical therapy following bilateral TKA and deliberates the outcomes the patient experienced.

Case Description: The patient was a 62-year-old male who received postoperative physical therapy in an outpatient orthopedic clinic for a total of 8 weeks. The patient demonstrated decreased bilateral knee range of motion (ROM), decreased bilateral gross lower extremity (LE) strength, increased pain and swelling in both knees, and decreased endurance for ambulation.

Several studies have reported the corrosion rates of magnesium carbon nanotube nanocomposites, but their corrosion behavior is still not well understood. Adding carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to magnesium (Mg) matrices almost always results in an increase in mechanical properties, e.g., increased elastic modulus, hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and yield strength. However, this increase in mechanical properties usually comes at the expense of compromised corrosion resistance. Galvanic interactions between the carbon nanotubes and the magnesium matrix are the usual culprits of nanocomposite corrosion. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) have emerged as strong contenders to conventional membranes for gas and liquid separations. Although numerous studies on filler/matrix combinations have been conducted and thoroughly reviewed, a review of activated carbon (AC) as a filler has thus far been minimal. This review intends to fill this gap via critically analyzing the state-of-the-art on AC as a filler in MMMs. Aspects of AC-MMM research, with emphasis on AC fabrication from biomass pyrolysis, AC-MMM fabrication and resulting properties, and influence of AC on MMM performance are thoroughly elucidated. These ergonomic concerns are addressed as they specifically relate to the occupations of the clients. Through an extensive literature review, it was found that there is limited research and programming specific to occupational therapy’s role in providing services to pregnant women and new mothers.
