Fight Or Flight: Parental Decisions About Predators At Nests Of Northern Bobwhites (Colinus Virginianus), Susan N. Ellis-Felege, Jonathan S. Burnam, William E. Palmer, D. Clay Sisson, John P. Carroll

Patterns of nest defense against predators by ground-nesting bird species in the wild are poorly understood, largely because of a historical inability to directly monitor nests. Most nest-defense studies have observed responses elicited from artificial predators or human observers presented to nesting birds, and few have attempted to present these events in the context of predator—prey relationships found in the wild. We hypothesized that predator threat level (e.g., the threat posed to the clutch or to the clutch and the attending adult), parental characteristics, clutch investment, and future reproductive opportunities would influence avian nest-defense decisions. Test anxiety is a complex, multidimensional construct composed of cognitive, affective, and behavioral components that have been shown to negatively affect test performance. Furthermore, test anxiety is a pervasive problem in modern society largely related to the evaluative nature of educational programs, therefore meriting study of its nature, causes, effects, and treatment. Aromatherapy is the skilled use of essential oils for physical and emotional well-being and has been used to increase relaxation, attention and memory. Risk Assessment In Corrections: An Analysis Of Variables Related To Suicide Attempts And Self-Mutilation, Melissa Ann Fine

Suicide and self-mutilation risk assessment is a complicated process, especially within a correctional setting. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, over 50% of incarcerated individuals have a mental health illness, further reinforcing the need for concise, evidence-based risk assessment practices. The Virginia Department of Corrections collected data on suicide attempts, completed suicides, and incidents of self-injurious behavior for 17 months with a measure created to assess risk factor found in the community. Results indicated that numerous factors were related to suicide attempts, however only having made prior suicide attempts, the presence of a major depression diagnosis, and placement in …

Many patients undergoing surgical procedures require intravenous fluid replacement with a colloid volume expander. It is a well-known fact that the choice of intravenous fluid therapy may impact postoperative outcomes in both positive and 4 negative ways (Topcu et al., 2012). In 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of 6% Hetastarch 130/0.4, also known as Voluven, to treat hypovolemia. This product was introduced to the anesthesia practice as a promising volume expander, carrying minimal side effects such as renal failure or coagulopathy.
