Efficacy Of Vitamin D Versus Biological Agents In The Management Of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Kayli Day Apr 2024

Efficacy Of Vitamin D Versus Biological Agents In The Management Of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Kayli Day

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease leading to joint destruction. There are several treatment options available to patients, including conventional disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS) and biological agents, but their efficacies vary per patient and tote significant adverse effects and cost. There is, however, encouraging evidence to suggest the incorporation of vitamin D in treatment regimens may be a promising option for patients. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed and CINHAL databases, employing keywords and MeSH terms related to RA treatment options, with the goal to compare efficacy of biological agents and vitamin D in the …

Population Genomics Provide Insight Into Ancestral Relationships And Diversity Of The Feral Horses Of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Melissa A. Thompson, Blake E. Mccann, Turk Rhen, Rebecca Simmons

Biology Faculty Publications

Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) manages a herd of feral horses (Equus caballus) which was present on the landscape prior to the establishment of the park. The population presents a unique scenario in that it has experienced fairly intensive and well-documented management since the park's establishment, including herd size reductions, intentional introduction of diversity, and subsequent attempts to remove introduced lineages. This provides an interesting case study on the genetic effects of diverse evolutionary forces on an isolated feral population. To explore the effects of these forces and clarify the relationship of this feral herd with other horses, …

Sebaceous Carcinoma: A Commitment To A Standard Of Care, Stephany Janice Sophia Dimoulas

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

Sebaceous carcinoma (SC) has its origin in the sebaceous glands of the dermis and may develop as a result of de novo mutations from benign sebaceous neoplasms or as a result of microsatellite instability and loss of mismatch repair gene expression secondary to Muir-Torre Syndrome (MTS). SCs may also arise from the Meibomian glands, the glands of Zeis, or the sebaceous glands of the caruncle if occurring periocularly. Although SCs may occur at any sebaceous gland-containing location, the most common areas of involvement include the periocular, head, and neck regions. Given its capacity for nodal and distal metastasis as well …

Monoclonal Antibodies Vs. Symptomatic Treatment Of Hospitalized Patients With Covid-19, Robert White

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

The SARS-CoV-2 virus, or COVID-19, was the virus responsible for the worldwide pandemic declared in March, 2020. Individuals can experience a wide variety of symptoms ranging from fever, fatigue, cough, and, in more severe cases, hypoxia requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Until recently, symptomatic care was the protocol for patients infected with COVID- 19. The use of oxygen for mild hypoxia and antipyretics for fevers was considered the standard of care (SOC). The use of antiviral medications, such as monoclonal antibodies, has been proposed in the treatment of acute COVID-19 infection. The purpose of this literature review is to determine …

Minimally Invasive Therapies In The Treatment Of Arthropathy, Steven Bateman Apr 2024

Minimally Invasive Therapies In The Treatment Of Arthropathy, Steven Bateman

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

It is estimated that 27% of adults over 45 years of age suffer from osteoarthritis of the hip secondary to articular cartilage damage over the lifespan. Joint pain diminishes life quality, limits range of motion and overall activity, and frequently impairs basic ambulation. These functional deficits worsen the progression of comorbidities that are often referred to as lifestylerelated chronic disease as physical activity subsequently declines. This literature review explores the efficacy of minimally invasive therapies that precede and delay surgical intervention in adult patients experiencing functional limitations and pain in major joints. The study examines the effectiveness of various interventions, …

Evaluation Of Infrared Thermography Dataset For Delamination Detection In Reinforced Concrete Bridge Decks, Eberechi Ichi, Sattar Dorafshan

Civil Engineering Faculty Publications

Structural health monitoring and condition assessment of existing bridge decks is a growing challenge. Conventional manned inspections are costly, labor-intensive, and often risky to execute. Sub-surface delamination, a leading cause of deck replacement, can be autonomously and objectively detected using infrared thermography (IRT) data with developed deep learning AI models to address some of the limitations associated with manned inspection. As one of the most promising classifiers, deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) have not been utilized to their fullest potential for delamination detection, arguably due to the scarcity of realistic ground truth datasets. In this study, a common encoder–decoder semantic …
