We conducted a qualitative photovoice research project in which students attending summer seminar in 2024 captured images during their week on campus, then submitted the images along with title and narrative. Two virtual focus groups were then held to present and discuss these images. Focus group discussions were transcribed, coded, and were validated through code confirmation and member checking. A crucial component of photovoice research is presentation of the images and associated narratives. This is a transformative research method, intended to generate community awareness about an important topic, and to empower participants through presentation of their experience. This photo book …

Recent studies identified that faculty research productivity increased when they felt competent in conducting research. Faculty level of research competency varies due to academic training, context, country, discipline, and experiences; however, what is faculty research competency? The core competencies of faculty research are unclear; thus, the current study systematically reviewed the literature. Researchers used Boolean searches of four popular databases to identify 553 articles for first-level screening. These yielded 46 peer-reviewed journal articles for full-text analysis, six of which focused on faculty populations (40 on non-faculty). Six core components of faculty research proficiency were identified: finding and reviewing literature, planning …

Supporting The Development Of Emotion Regulation For Engagement In Occupation, Alexis Karen Smith
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Purpose: Many children with mental, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental health conditions internalize and externalize symptoms of anxiety, depression, and anger at higher rates compared to children without these conditions (Tajik-Parvinchi, 2021). Difficulties with emotion regulation may lead to heightened experiences of symptoms from mental, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental health conditions (Tajik-Parvinchi, 2021). Occupational therapy practitioners can support children with emotional dysregulation by using evidence-based best practices. The identified problem is the application of evidence-based emotion regulation evaluation and interventions to support children with difficulty in emotion regulation and their caregivers. The challenge of implementing evidence-based emotion regulation services is limited research and …

Religion-Justified Childhood Maltreatment, Maladjustment, And Child Abuse Potential, Hannah Doctor
Theses and Dissertations
Childhood abuse is a widely studied construct that has been shown to be related to higher levels of maladjustment and physical discipline and abuse perpetration in adulthood. Religion has been studied in relation to traumatic experiences and shown to be a factor that may help mitigate subsequent maladjustment. The idea religion may have been used to justify abusive acts has not been as widely studied but may complicate the picture of religion being a protective or resiliency factor. The present study sought to explore the relationships between religion, childhood abuse, maladjustment, and parenting behaviors. It was hypothesized that religion being …
