Energy Drink Consumption In College Students: Report Of Physical And Psychological Symptoms In Association With Chronic Consumption Habits, Rebecca J. Cicha
Energy Drink Consumption In College Students: Report Of Physical And Psychological Symptoms In Association With Chronic Consumption Habits, Rebecca J. Cicha
Theses and Dissertations
Within the past decade, energy drink consumption has increased, particularly within young adult populations. Though current studies have investigated the acute effects of energy drink consumption, little data exists in regards to consumption patterns amongst college students, particularly differentiating acute vs. chronic consumers. As caffeine is recognized as the main acting ingredient in energy drinks, the effects of acute and chronic energy drink consumption may be related to that of general acute and chronic caffeine consumption. To date, much literature has highlighted a connection between caffeine intake and general pathology, specifically, that caffeine is highly correlated with the endorsement of …
Perceptions Of Weight Reduction Surgery: The Role Of Stigma And The Attribution Of Responsibility, Jessica Marie Behm
Perceptions Of Weight Reduction Surgery: The Role Of Stigma And The Attribution Of Responsibility, Jessica Marie Behm
Theses and Dissertations
The amount of weight reduction surgeries performed in the United States has increased considerably within the last twenty years. Many people choose to undergo the procedure with the hopes of shedding the negative stigma of being obese and improving their life. The purpose of this study was to investigate how society views individuals who have elected to undergo weight reduction surgery. A questionnaire assessing the influence of three variables (Responsibility, Acceptability, and Stigma) on the perception of weight reduction surgery was developed and administered to 503 Midwestern college students. The respondents were presented with one of two vignettes depicting a …

Complementary And Alternative Therapy Among American Indians Suffering From Depression And Anxiety, Rhea N. Allery
Theses and Dissertations
The American Indian population shows the highest percent of lifetime major depression at 19.17 percent compared to other ethnic groups in the United States. Anxiety among American Indians is ten times higher than other ethnic groups. Because of these statistics, American Indians also have a suicide rate that is 1.5 times higher than the national average. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding and qualified health care provides for American Indians, improper and insufficient diagnosing and treatment for these diseases causes burden for suffers and their families. Several studies suggest that American Indians are the highest users of complementary and …

An Interactive Manual For Informal Caregivers Of Cerebral Vascular Accident (Cva) Survivors, Lindsay Draayer, Kaila Gunderson
An Interactive Manual For Informal Caregivers Of Cerebral Vascular Accident (Cva) Survivors, Lindsay Draayer, Kaila Gunderson
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Based on data from the literature review and clinical experience, an interactive manual was developed for occupational therapists to utilize when working with caregivers of cerebral vascular accident (CVA) survivors. CVA survivors display difficulty in basic personal cares such as eating, dressing, and general mobility within, but not limited to, the first year following the onset of the CVA. An interactive caregiving manual was created that addresses the needs of a caregiver of a CV A survivor during their transition from hospital to home. This focused education program enhances communication between the family caregiver of the CVA survivor and the …

Diabetes Management With Insulin Pump Therapy And Its Compliance In Adolescents, Jacqueline L. Reep-Jarmin
Diabetes Management With Insulin Pump Therapy And Its Compliance In Adolescents, Jacqueline L. Reep-Jarmin
Theses and Dissertations
Glycemic control is difficult to achieve for the adolescent with type 1 diabetes mellites (TlDM). Intensive insulin therapy through continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) with an insulin pump can give the adolescent better glycemic control and a more flexible schedule and lifestyle. The purpose of this project was to determine if insulin pump therapy among adolescents increases their compliance of their medical regimen and to increase awareness of diabetic educators of insulin pump therapy and it's appropriateness among adolescent patients.
An intensive literature review was conducted to detern1ine the current evidence on insulin pump therapy in adolescents and their compliance. …
Preeclampsia And Future Cardiovascular Risk, Christine Lauzon
Preeclampsia And Future Cardiovascular Risk, Christine Lauzon
Theses and Dissertations
Several recent studies have shown that women with a history of preeclampsia or gestational hypertension are at increased risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disease later in life. It is unclear whether this increased risk is due to underlying conditions in the women that predispose them to preeclampsia, or to the long-term sequelae of the preeclampsia syndrome. It is clear though that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women. There is a lack of anticipatory guidance for women regarding their future risk of cardiovascular disease following pregnancy complicated by preeclampsia. Therefore, the purpose of this project was …
Spirituality In The Community, Dawn Fredrich
Spirituality In The Community, Dawn Fredrich
Theses and Dissertations
Important nursing theorists throughout history agree that human beings are comprised of several dimensions. These dimensions generally include body, mind and spirit. Many also agree that these dimensions cannot be isolated for treatment. The body, mind and spirit are so intricately interconnected that each of the dimensions has an effect on the other. Although nurses are charged with assessing, intervening, and evaluating care for each of these three dimensions, most nurses practicing in acute and long term facilities provide interventions directed primarily at the body and mind. There is, however, a resurgence of interest in how spirituality affects the health …
