Septic Tank Nutrients In Groundwater Entering Lake Sallie, Minnesota, David Robert Lee
Septic Tank Nutrients In Groundwater Entering Lake Sallie, Minnesota, David Robert Lee
Theses and Dissertations
The nutrient contribution of septic tanks to a lake was evaluated at Lake Sallie, in glacial outwash terrain of northwestern Minnesota. Groundwater entering the lake was collected by covering 0.258 m2 of lake bed with a bottomless cylinder vented to deflated plastic bag. Inflow velocity ranged from 0.01 to 2.5 micrometers per-second along 30% of the lakeshore. Groundwater inflow along an 800 m segment of shore amounted to 4.50 x 105 m3/year, and was uniformly distributed along the shore, but decreased exponentially away from shore.
Effluent from a heavily-used lakeside septic tank fanned out along the surface of the water …

Cross Education Effect Of Delorme Progressive Resistance Exercise On Quadriceps Femoris, Thomas E. Mcdonald
Cross Education Effect Of Delorme Progressive Resistance Exercise On Quadriceps Femoris, Thomas E. Mcdonald
Theses and Dissertations
This project was conducted in order to determine if strengthening the knee extensors of one leg using dynamic contractions would result in an increase in the knee extensors of the opposite (contralateral) leg.
The experiment consisted of a pretest to determine the maximum amount of weight that could be lifted by each leg for all subjects. The preferred leg of each subject was then subjected to a five-week progressive resistance exercise program conducted on a daily basis. A post-test was then given in a similar manner to the pretest.
The participants were fourteen University of North Dakota Junior Physical Therapy …

Theses and Dissertations
The Problem
This study had as its purpose the review and analysis of nine Models for elementary teacher education. These Models were Phase I of a USOE Elementary Teacher Education Project. Considerations for preliminary analysis for this study were to determine:
- 1. What were the Models' conceptions of a teacher?
- 2. What program content and curriculum strategies were proposed for preparing a teacher of this description?
- 3. In what ways did the Models provide for matching of training procedures with student character?
- 4. How did the Models accept the challenge of relating teacher education with the field?
- 5. To what …

To Determine The Effect Of Bicycle Ergometer Pedal-Arm Length On Heart Rate And Air Intake, John T. Nunn
To Determine The Effect Of Bicycle Ergometer Pedal-Arm Length On Heart Rate And Air Intake, John T. Nunn
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bicycle ergometer pedal-arm length on heart rate and air intake. Nine students attending the University of North Dakota participated as subjects in the study. The subjects pedaled a bicycle ergometer for six minutes on three test days. The variable criterion for the three tests was the pedal-arm length which was altered to predetermined lengths of 15, 17 and 19 centimeters. Heart rate response and air intake volume were recorded and compiled at each minute of the six minute tests.
The raw data were statistically analyzed by two way analysis …
Aggressive Behavior As A Function Of Trait Anxiety, Anger And Sex, Brian A. Middleton
Aggressive Behavior As A Function Of Trait Anxiety, Anger And Sex, Brian A. Middleton
Theses and Dissertations
The relationship between trait anxiety and physical aggression was investigated. Two additional variables, sex and anger level of the Ss were considered. It was hypothesized that males would express more aggression than females and that angered Ss would be more aggressive than nonangered Ss. No hypotheses were made concerning the relationship between trait anxiety and physical aggression.
Seventy-two undergraduates at the University of North Dakota were selected as Ss. A 3x2x2 factorial design was used with three levels of anxiety and two categories of anger and sex. Six Ss were assigned to each treatment condition. Trait anxiety was defined by …
The Effects Of Instant Visual Feedback Of Congruence In Group Counseling, Jack E. Brown
The Effects Of Instant Visual Feedback Of Congruence In Group Counseling, Jack E. Brown
Theses and Dissertations
Problem
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of immediate feedback of congruence by subjects in group counseling. Measures of outcome included the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS), Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientations-Behavior (FIRO-B), the Tentative Scale for the Measurement of Genuineness and a time measure of the relative amount of time that the focus of attention within the groups was perceived to be congruent, incongruent or neutral.
Procedure
There were two studies with twenty-three subjects in the first study and twenty-five subjects in the second study. The subjects were volunteer university students who were randomly assigned to one …
Inventory Analysis: Economic Order Point And Order Quantity, Dennis G. Lardy
Inventory Analysis: Economic Order Point And Order Quantity, Dennis G. Lardy
Theses and Dissertations
The problem of inventory control and management has plagued business since its inception. It has not been until recently, however, that business has begun to deal with the problem on a scientific basis. The expansion of the firm into a large industrial complex has brought about the recognition of the need for better inventory control. This paper studies the basic mathematical models that have been developed for use in management and control of inventories. The study deals primarily with the economic order quantity and economic order point determination.
Various cost inputs and methods of determining and estimating them are discussed. …

The first phase of the problem was to determine if there were a relationship between basketball skill ability and physical education grade point average. The second phase was to determine if there were a relationship between the same basketball skill ability and academic grade point average.
The AAHPER Basketball Skills Test was administered to 100 sixth and seventh grade boys at Woodside Elementary School. After their basketball skill scores were standardized, these scores were correlated.with their physical education grade point average and their academic grade point average using the Pearson Product-Moment Formula. A correlation coefficient of 0.62 was found between …

Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, And Circulorespiratory Endurance Of University Of North Dakota Varsity Wrestlers During The 1970-71 Season, Robert E. Stiles
Theses and Dissertations
This study was conducted to establish those changes which occurred in muscular strength, muscular endurance, and circulorespiratory endurance over a one season period. Pre-season, pre-Christmas, post-Christmas, and post-season tests were administered to eleven University of North Dakota varsity wrestlers. The tests included the twelve minute run-walk, used to measure circulorespiratory endurance, and two weight training lifts—the bench press and the prone row, used to measure muscular strength and endurance. Each of the lifts was administered to test muscular responses four ways: static strength, static endurance, dynamic strength, and dynamic endurance.

Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to determine the relationship between academic achievement as measured by the composite score on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development and success of varsity players in football. Success in football was defined as winning 70 percent or more of conference games.
A random sample of one hundred Iowa high schools was used in the study. Letters were sent to administrators of the schools to collect achievement scores for all varsity football letter winners and the conference team record. An average composite score was figured for each team, as was the team percentage of wins. A correlation …

Gymnastics Skills Standards For Male Physical Education Majors At Dickinson State College, Michael J. Ryan
Theses and Dissertations
This study was undertaken to develop a standard .for the minimum level of proficiency in gymnastics skills for male physical education majors at Dickinson State College.
To set the desired standard, a skill proficiency test in gymnastics had to be devised. This test was constructed in the following fashion.
