Attributions In The Adult Mother-Daughter Relationship, Angela R. Cheney
Attributions In The Adult Mother-Daughter Relationship, Angela R. Cheney
Theses and Dissertations
The study explored mother-daughter relationships within the attributional relationship paradigm. Literature on mother-daughter relationships has been contradictory in characterizing the relationship as either mutually satisfying and fulfilling or as a source of considerable turmoil.
The study addressed: would the relationships between satisfaction and attributions found in other close relationships also be obtained in adult mother-daughter relationships; do mothers and daughters differ in level of satisfaction with the relationship or in the nature of the attributions made; is age related to satisfaction or attributions?
Women were asked to describe positive and negative interactions under real and hypothetical conditions, with their mothers …

Chinese Medicine: An Effective Alternative For Physical Therapists, Nancy Palumbo
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Acupressure is a technique that has been used for thousands of years in China, and has gained popularity in the United States since the 1960's. Research shows a high correlation between trigger points and acupuncture points, though discovered independently and labeled differently, the same phenomenon of can be explained by the same neural mechanisms. The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of Chinese medicine and its use in physical therapy. First, a literature review consisting of a brief history of Chinese medicine and traditional Western medicine is compared. Next, the results of a survey distributed to 47 …

Quality Assurance Issues In The Delivery Of Assistive Technology Services, Donald N. Olson
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
This independent study report provides an overview of the current state of the field of assistive technology for persons who have significant disabilities.
The field is extremely broad, and encompasses both low and high technology. Personnel working in field are diverse as well, representing nearly a dozen different disciplines. Two key issues confronting the collective field are professional education and credentialing.
In general, pre service professional programs do little to prepare students to deal with technological interventions. Some professionals who want to improve their competence in this area are doing so through graduate or post-graduate study, workshop attendance, or clinical …

Spousal Bereavement In The Second Year: Differences In Bereavement Outcome Among The Rural And Urban Elderly., Laurie Ann Brustad
Theses and Dissertations
Twenty-five bereaved rural elderly subjects (10 males, 15 females) were compared with twenty-five bereaved urban elderly subjects (16 females, 9 males) in the second year after the death of a spouse. All subjects were drawn from a Hospice population. The rural elderly were found to have higher levels of depression, unresolved grief, and poorer health than the urban elderly as measured by the Multiscore Depression Inventory, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Wahler Physical Symptoms Inventory, and the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief. Multiple regression analyses revealed that several variables influenced scores on the outcome measures. Depression scores were best predicted …

A Comparison Of Relationships Between Older Adults And Their Close Friends And Adult Children., Brett Eric Schur
Theses and Dissertations
The support which older widowed women receive from their adult children and their friends has been the subject of wide ranging support. The support needs of this group include companionship, emotional support, and assistance with the practical aspects of daily living such as household chores and transportation for shopping and medical appointments. More recently, the life satisfaction of older adults has measured as a method for understanding the impact of relationships between older adults and their adult children and friends. The consistent finding has been that relationships with adult children have no impact on life satisfaction, while relationships with friends …
