Separation Of Scandium And Calcium By Liquid-Liquid Extraction Using Tri-N-Butyl Phosphate As Solvent, Kavasseri P. Radhakrishnan
Separation Of Scandium And Calcium By Liquid-Liquid Extraction Using Tri-N-Butyl Phosphate As Solvent, Kavasseri P. Radhakrishnan
Theses and Dissertations
Equilibrium data have been obtained for the systems Ca(N03)2- HNO3- TBP- H20 and Sc(N03)3- Ca(N03)2- HNO3- TBP- H20 over a wide range of concentration of the metal nitrates in the aqueous solution. Equilibrium acid concentration was used as a parameter for the equilibrium curves.
For the system Sc(N03)3- Ca(NO3)2- HNO3- TBP- H20 the distribution coefficients of scandium and calcium decreased with increasing acidity of the aqueous phase. The distribution coefficient of scandium was largely dependent on the calcium concentration in the aqueous phase rather than the scandium concentration as a result of the salting-out effect of calcium nitrate.
The separation …

Ecological Factors Affecting Lateral Distribution Of Goldeye Hiodon Alosoides (Rafinesque), In The Little Missouri Arm, Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota, Stanley I. Johannes
Theses and Dissertations
The lateral distribution of goldeye, Hiodon alosoides (Rafinesque) in Little Missouri Arm, Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota, was investigated during 1967 and 1968. This species, which is of commercial importance in Canada, is present in great abundance in Lake Sakakawea, yet is not commercially exploited in that body of water.
Experimental gill nets were fished from the surface at eight locations along the Little Missouri Arm to detect differences in goldeye populations along the length of the arm. A total of 7,191 fish were taken of which 6,536 or 90.80% were goldeye. Mesh selectivity data was recorded; 1 1/4 inch mesh …

A Preliminary Study Of The Effects Of Temperature And Coal Source In Efficiency Of Electrostatic Precipitation Of Fly Ash From Western Coals, Stanley John Selle
A Preliminary Study Of The Effects Of Temperature And Coal Source In Efficiency Of Electrostatic Precipitation Of Fly Ash From Western Coals, Stanley John Selle
Theses and Dissertations
The investigation was the first phase of a program to develop a pilot electrostatic precipitator test facility. The facility was to study the effects of various operating conditions on precipitator collection efficiency for fly ash from western coals.
A plate-type pilot electrostatic precipitator was built and modified to increase its applicability to the problems studied.
Results of tests9 run to determine the effect of temperature on collection efficiency for fly ash from a single sources indicated the existence of an optimum operating temperature. Test results also showed that the coal and fly ash composition have an effect on precipitator collection …

The Reliability And Validity Of The Modified Aahper Fitness Test As Applied To Freshmen College Males At The University Of North Dakota, Paul O. Soderberg
The Reliability And Validity Of The Modified Aahper Fitness Test As Applied To Freshmen College Males At The University Of North Dakota, Paul O. Soderberg
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis topic was basically concerned with two phases. The first phase of the study was to determine the reliability of the Modified AAHPER Fitness Test. The second phase of the study was to determine the validity of this same test. Test administrations were given in a one week period.
The reliability was established by the test-retest method. Thirty-seven subjects participated in two test periods. The validity was established by comparing nineteen subjects' results on a criterion test, to their results on the first administration of the Modified AAHPER Test Items.
All items of the Modified AAHPER Test were found …
William Langer's Resurgence To Political Power In 1932, Gordon W. Johnson
William Langer's Resurgence To Political Power In 1932, Gordon W. Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
The intent of this paper is to uncover the political activity of William Langer from the Morton County State’s Attorney days of 1914 to his election as governor of North Dakota in 1932.
The first bold signs of Langer’s entertaining political ambitions came during his break with the original Nonpartisan League leaders during the time he served as North Dakota's Attorney General, 1916-1920. The Independent Voters Association helped him to realize a measure of political strength when they used him as a candidate for governor in 1920. Even though defeated, Langer's political career was just beginning. He used the years …
Stabilization Of Soil By Use Of Expansive Cement, Ebrahim Shirazi
Stabilization Of Soil By Use Of Expansive Cement, Ebrahim Shirazi
Theses and Dissertations
Hydration of the cement paste resulting in the formation of shrinkage cracks in soil-cement stabilized bases is one of the major problems when cement is used with certain soils. A new approach to control these shrinkage cracks is the use of expansive cement instead of regular portland cement. In this study the writer attempts to gain an insight into the effect of expansive cement on strength and durability of the soil-cement and examine whether it is advantageous to substitute expansive cement for regular portland cement.
A silty soil typical of materials found in the Red River Valley, North Dakota, was …
Punishment Correlations In A Multiple Schedule, John O. Kling
Punishment Correlations In A Multiple Schedule, John O. Kling
Theses and Dissertations
Research indicates that punishment sometimes has discriminative as well as suppressive properties. The discriminative property of punishment usually has been exhibited by correlating punishment, with positive reinforcement, then testing for facilitative effects of punishment on responding in the absence of positive reinforcement. In the present study, punishment was correlated with one or the other of the two components of a multiple fixed-ratio schedule after the discrimination based on differential frequency of reinforcement had been formed. The correlation of punishment x^ith the components we.s reversed with the expectation that reversal of the correlations would reveal appropriate changes in responding in the …

Open And Closed Mindedness, Values, And Other Personality Characteristics Of Male College Students Who Served On Or Appeared Before Judiciary Boards, Gordon H. Henry
Theses and Dissertations
Problem: The purpose of this study was to determine the direction of change in selected attitudinal characteristics of male students who were either members of a judiciary board (Group 1, N=51), or appeared before a judiciary board (Group 2, N=ll), or had no contact with a judiciary board (Group 3, N=110) while living in the residence halls at the University of North Dakota.
Procedure: The main sources of data for this study were the Allport- Vernon-Lindzey Study of Values, the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale E, and the Adjective Check List. These instruments were administered to the research population early in the …
