Cognitive Dissonance As A Function Of Internal-External Locus Of Control, Dennis U. Spjut
Cognitive Dissonance As A Function Of Internal-External Locus Of Control, Dennis U. Spjut
Theses and Dissertations
According to cognitive dissonance theory engaging in behavior inconsistent with one's beliefs arouses dissonance. When individuals choose to engage in a boring and repetitious task they tend to positively reevaluate the task. Recent research (Pallak, et al. 1967) using an incidental verbal learning paradigm indicates that subjects who voluntarily commit themselves to performing a boring task reduce dissonance via enhanced task performance rather than through positive task reevaluation. Both the arousal of dissonance and its reduction can be expected to vary with individual differences. The present study investigated the individual differences of sex and internal-external locus of control as related …

The Involvement Of The Military In The Affairs Of Modern Mexico, Anthony G. Salerno

Direct Estimation Evaluation Of Rehabilitation Patients By Non-Expert Judges, Martin T. Ivers
Theses and Dissertations
The investigation completed by Lipp (Evaluation of rehabilitation patients by direct estimation procedures, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of North Dakota, 1969) demonstrated that exceedingly reliable ratio scale measurement of degree of physical disability could be achieved by expert judges (Js) using direct estimation procedures.
In the present investigation, 10 J^s without formal rehabilitation training or experience made magnitude estimations of degree of physical disability shown by 10 rehabilitation patients in the modalities of ambulation and transfer. The patients' behaviors were depicted by the videotape recording which were used in the Lipp investigation. The magnitude estimation portion of the Lipp investigation was …

An Evaluation Of The Concepts Of Delegation Held By Middle Management In The Computer Industry, Paul Johnson
An Evaluation Of The Concepts Of Delegation Held By Middle Management In The Computer Industry, Paul Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
This study is an investigation into the modern theory of delegation of authority as viewed by middle managers. Seven theoretical principles of delegation are set forth and seven obstacles to the efficient use of delegation. An empirical study was made by surveying a number of middle managers at the Honeywell corporation, Minneapolis Minnesota. Personal interviews and a questionnaire were used to determine the attitudes of various managers toward delegation principles and practices. An analysis of the data indicated a number of obstacles~ in the practice of delegation; the author suggests elimination of these problem areas will require both a procedural …

A Study Of Mignon's Lied In Selected Settings, Robert E. Norton
A Study Of Mignon's Lied In Selected Settings, Robert E. Norton
Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this study is the various treatments given by composers to a twelve line poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The text is the common factor over which the differences of approach and treatment are laid by composers in compositions which range in time of initial publication from 1796 to 1888. The condition of the Lied immediately prior to the publication of the first of the settings is taken as the starting point, since all of the chosen settings may be classified as Lieder. The composers whose works are discussed are Karl F. Zelter, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz …
