Mercury Oxidation By Chlorine-Containing Species And Scrubbing In A Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization System, Yongxin Zhao Dec 2005

Mercury Oxidation By Chlorine-Containing Species And Scrubbing In A Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization System, Yongxin Zhao

Theses and Dissertations

This research is particularly related to mercury control technologies. The state of the art in mercury emission control is generally classified into two categories: Mercury Transformation and Mercury Capture. In this research, two chapters (3 & 4) are specifically related to mercury transformation and another two (5 & 6) are related to mercury capture.

Chapter 3 investigates the capabilities of HCI and CU on Hg° oxidation. The resulting data indicated that both were effective in the combustor. However, HCI was less effective in a quartz reactor. Subsequently, the inhibitory effects of NO and S02 were identified in the quartz reactor. …

An Examination Of The Perceived College Leadership, Governance, And Decision Making From Governing Board Members At Selected Midwest Tribal Colleges, William L. Gourneau

Theses and Dissertations

Traditional American Indian leadership was the foundation of today‘s Indian leadership. The belief in the Indian value system, which was integrated throughout traditional leadership, has greatly contributed to leadership qualities for Indian people. A change in how Native Americans interpret Indian leadership began with the introduction of tribal governments. Tribal governments forced Indian people into a different form of leadership. Although new leadership roles came into existence, the concept of traditional leadership continued. Many current tribal leaders were looked upon favorably if they possess traditional cultural values. Even today, elders and community members with strong cultural knowledge are sought out …

Hyperventilation And Its Effects On The Neurosurgical Patient, Melissa L. Laspi Aug 2005

Hyperventilation And Its Effects On The Neurosurgical Patient, Melissa L. Laspi

Theses and Dissertations

Neurosurgical procedures continue to be a challenging and intricate part of an anesthesia provider’s career. The anesthesia provider can control the physiological effects of improper auto-regulation of the brain that can occur with abnormal neurological pathology. The control of hyperventilation is one way that the anesthesia provider can manipulate cerebral physiology. This paper addresses the physiology of impaired brain autoregulation and the role in which carbon dioxide affects that physiology. Simply stated, carbon dioxide (C02) is the number one physiological factor that controls cerebral blood flow; increasing C02 dilates cerebral vessels thus increasing flow while decreasing C02 constricts cerebral vessels …
