Correlates Of Co-Rumination Among Married Women And Men In Pakistan, Mohib Rehman
Correlates Of Co-Rumination Among Married Women And Men In Pakistan, Mohib Rehman
Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
This dissertation examined co-rumination among married men and women and its effects on their marital quality and depressive outcomes. The study addressed the concept of co-rumination in the Pakistani family context as the notion of gender role affects many aspects of people’s lives in Pakistan including their self-disclosure. Data were collected online through social media from 150 married men and women who were in a marital relationship for at least a year. Using multiple regression, the association between co-rumination and depression was assessed and the moderating role of gender was examined to see if co-rumination results in different outcomes among …

Fast Video-Based Face Recognition In Collaborative Learning Environments, Phuong Tran
Fast Video-Based Face Recognition In Collaborative Learning Environments, Phuong Tran
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
Face recognition is a classical problem in Computer Vision that has experienced significant progress recently. Yet, face recognition in videos remains challenging. In digital videos, face recognition is complicated by occlusion, pose and lighting variations, and persons entering and leaving the scene. The goal of the thesis is to develop a fast method for face recognition in digital videos that is applicable to large datasets. Instead of the standard video-based methods that are tested on short videos, the goal of the approach is to be applicable to long educational videos of several minutes to hours, with the ultimate goal of …
Smart Energy Harvesting For Internet Of Things Networks, Fisayo Sangoleye
Smart Energy Harvesting For Internet Of Things Networks, Fisayo Sangoleye
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
In this thesis, we address the problem of prolonging the battery life of Internet of Things (IoT) nodes by introducing a smart energy harvesting framework for IoT networks supported by femtocell access points (FAPs) based on the principles of Contract Theory and Reinforcement Learning. Initially, the IoT nodes’ social and physical characteristics are identified and captured through the concept of IoT node types. Then, Contract Theory is adopted to capture the interactions among the FAPs, who provide personalized rewards, i.e., charging power, to the IoT nodes to incentivize them to invest their effort, i.e., transmission power, to report their data …
Contract-Theoretic Demand Response Management In Smart Grid Systems, Nafis Irtija
Contract-Theoretic Demand Response Management In Smart Grid Systems, Nafis Irtija
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
The sheer growth of electricity demand and the rising number of electricity-hungry devices have highlighted and elevated the need of addressing the demand response management problem in residential smart grid systems. In this thesis, a novel contract-theoretic demand response management (DRM) framework in residential smart grid systems is introduced based on the principles of labor economics. The residential households produce and consume electricity, acting as dynamic prosumers. Initially, the prosumers' personal electricity generation and consumption characteristics are captured by introducing the concept of prosumers' types. Then, the prosumers' and the electricity market's profit is depicted in representative utility functions. Based …

Integrin Activation Is An Essential Component Of Sars-Cov-2 Infection, Peter Simons, Derek A. Rinaldi, Virginie Bondu, Alison M. Kell, Steven Bradfute, Diane S. Lidke, Tione Buranda
Pathology Research and Scholarship
SARS-CoV-2 infection depends on binding its spike (S) protein to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). The S protein expresses an RGD motif, suggesting that integrins may be co-receptors. Here, we UV-inactivated SARS-CoV-2 and fluorescently labeled the envelope membrane with octadecyl rhodamine B (R18) to explore the role of integrin activation in mediating cell entry and productive infection. We used flow cytometry and confocal microscopy to show that SARS-CoV-2R18 particles engage basal-state integrins. Furthermore, we demonstrate that Mn2+, which induces integrin extension, enhances cell entry of SARS-CoV-2R18. We also show that one class of integrin antagonist, which binds to …

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (HSPC) mobilization into the blood occurs under normal physiological conditions and is stimulated in the clinic to enable the isolation of HSPCs for transplantation therapies. In the present study, we identify the tetraspanin CD82 as a novel regulator of HSPC mobilization. Using a global CD82 knockout (CD82KO) mouse, we measure enhanced HSPC mobilization after granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) or AMD3100 treatment, which we find is promoted by increased surface expression of the sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to explore and understand employee perceptions of remote work as a potential option after the library returns to “normal” operations. This survey was used to develop the library’s telecommuting and remote work guideline.
METHODS: An 8-question, web-based survey was sent to all library faculty and staff, asking their opinions about working remotely after the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was declared minimal risk by our institutional IRB. The questions included multiple choice and free-text responses about how often employees wanted to work remotely; what tasks they believed could be done productively from home; what …
