Powering Up Clinical Scholarship In Dental Journal Club: Article Review Session 1, Evelyn Wang
Powering Up Clinical Scholarship In Dental Journal Club: Article Review Session 1, Evelyn Wang
HSLIC Faculty and Staff Instructional Resources
This presentation is designed for Dental Services Journal Club attendees as Session 1 of an article‑based workshop series on clinical scholarship, using three exemplar papers on drug‑induced gingival overgrowth (Mavrogiannis 2006, Fardal 2015, Mawardi 2021) to illustrate how to read, interpret, and critically appraise different study designs (narrative review, retrospective cohort, systematic review). The session emphasizes understanding methods and limitations (e.g., non‑systematic literature searching, confounding and missing data, lack of baseline matching, single‑center bias, heterogeneous treatments), interpreting risk of bias and evidence levels, and applying structured critical appraisal language so that dental clinicians can more confidently evaluate periodontal and pharmacologic …

Powering Up Clinical Scholarship In Dental Journal Club: Article Review Session 2, Evelyn Wang
HSLIC Faculty and Staff Instructional Resources
This presentation is designed for Dental Services Journal Club attendees as Session 2 of an article‑based workshop series on clinical scholarship, featuring three exemplar systematic reviews and meta-analyses on endodontic restoration: Naumann 2018 (ferrule effect in post-and-core restorations), Tsintsadze 2024 (survival rates of glass-fiber vs metal posts), and Batista 2020 (ferrule effect on fiber-reinforced composite post-and-core failure). The session teaches participants how to distinguish between systematic review and meta-analysis, apply PICO framework for formulating clinical questions, evaluate study design and methodological rigor (risk of bias assessment, inclusion/exclusion criteria, follow-up duration), interpret results and heterogeneity (I² statistic, confidence intervals), and understand …
Synteny To Snps: Comparative And Population Genomics Of Endemic Gila River Fishes, Alexander C. Cameron
Synteny To Snps: Comparative And Population Genomics Of Endemic Gila River Fishes, Alexander C. Cameron
Biology ETDs
Population genomic data are becoming an essential component of the best available science used by conservation professionals to make management decisions to preserve biodiversity in a rapidly changing world. The proliferation of high-throughput sequencing technologies has made generating genome scale data feasible for non-model organisms that are of conservation concern. In addition to applicability in conservation science, genomic data enable the exploration of basic questions related to species evolution. To that end, this body of research exemplifies the applied and basic utility of genomic data and is focused on two federally-protected minnows endemic to the Gila River basin, Loach Minnow …
Acoustic Black Hole Structures Using 3d-Printed Polymer Concrete, Siham S. Al Shanti
Acoustic Black Hole Structures Using 3d-Printed Polymer Concrete, Siham S. Al Shanti
Civil Engineering ETDs
Mitigating unwanted vibrations is essential in the design of structural and mechanical systems to ensure safety, reliability, and long-term performance. This dissertation advances the Acoustic Black Hole (ABH) concept, passive vibration control strategy, by replacing geometric tapering with controlled material properties. Using Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, elastic modulus variation in polymer concrete (PC) enabled wave velocity reduction without compromising fatigue resistance. The high strength, excellent damping, and rheological properties of PC makes it ideal for 3D-printed ABH structures. This work examined bond performance between normal concrete properties, developed PC mixes with tailored rheological and mechanical properties, and evaluated their 3D-printability. A …

Puf-Based Digital Money With Propagation-Of-Provenance And Offline Transfers Between Two Parties, Benjamin Bean, Cyrus Minwalla, Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou, Jim Plusquellic
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
Building on prior concepts of electronic money (eCash), we introduce a digital currency where a physical unclonable function (PUF) engenders devices with the twin properties of being verifiably enrolled as a member of a legitimate set of eCash devices and possessing of a hardware-based root-of-trust. A hardware-obfuscated secure enclave (HOSE) is proposed as a means of enabling a PUF-based propagation-of-provenance (POP) mechanism, which allows eCash tokens (eCt) to be securely signed and validated by recipients without incurring any third party dependencies at transfer time. The POP scheme establishes a chain of custody starting with token creation, extending through multiple bilateral …
Perceptions Of Inclusion In Disability Communication With Plithogenic Fuzzy Soft Sets, Sonia Guerra Iglesias, Andrea Eugenia Pacheco Lemus, Vallardo Villegas-Ricauter, Lorena Del Carmen Bodero Arizaga, Luis Enrique Silva Adriano
Perceptions Of Inclusion In Disability Communication With Plithogenic Fuzzy Soft Sets, Sonia Guerra Iglesias, Andrea Eugenia Pacheco Lemus, Vallardo Villegas-Ricauter, Lorena Del Carmen Bodero Arizaga, Luis Enrique Silva Adriano
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article explores how scientific communication with disability can foster social inclusion through an awareness of the challenge of conveying ambiguous perceptions across fields. This is a timely topic because inclusive communication facilitates equity and subsequent participation in academic and socio-cultural settings by persons with disabilities; however, the existing body of literature does not take an approach that represents an intrinsic indeterminacy of human perceptions. Absent this intrinsic human quality, research results oversimplify abilities and failures to include persons with disabilities. My approach fulfills this gap by using plitogenic fuzzy soft sets, which is a more generalized mathematical construct to …

Study Of Victimization And Perception Of Insecurity In Ecuador: Application Of Hybrid Models With Logistic Regression, Machine Learning, And Neutrosophy, Lorenzo Cevallos-Torres, Mauro M. F. Mediano
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Given the victim's rising profile in contemporary victimology and criminology, this study examines victimization and the impact of perceived insecurity, paying particular attention to the situation in Ecuador, where reports of crime and violence in urban areas are on the rise. The overarching goal is to create a reliable model for victimization risk assessment that may also serve as an analytical tool for public policymaking and preventative efforts. One step is to build a classic logistic regression model that takes into account variables like age, sex, education level, occupational category, and level of physical activity. The goal is to understand …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study examines the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Dominican Republic SMEs through a PESTLE-neutrosophic analysis. PESTLE stands for Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors. Neutrosophic is the Philosophy of Indeterminacy. Therefore, we focus on the factors relative to AI adoption in the Dominican Republic—specifiers to the benefits and drawbacks, as well as, the unknowns of operating with AI—with the intention of illuminating attention. The findings support a phased approach for SMEs to view indeterminacy as an opportunity for competitive advantage through improved operational efficiencies, enhanced customer experience, and more informed decision-making. Ultimately, the results position AI …

Neutrosophic Assessment Of Ventilatory Dynamics: A Model For Performance Optimization, Darvin Manuel Ramírez Guerra, Yusleidy Marlie Gordo Gómez, Noel Batista-Hernández
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study expands upon neutrosophics by establishing a novel neutrosophic model for the evaluation of ventilatory capabilities of Peruvian league 1 soccer professionals in response to an urgent need for such scientific studies to accommodate uncertainty associated with generally physiological measurements. The union of neutrosophic statistics principles with spirometric results and cardiopulmonary exercise testing produces a neuto model that effectively operates at 93.2% accuracy measured by 3 factors—(1) identification of asymptomatic ventilatory deficiencies, (2) assessment of respiratory compensatory thresholds reached during play, (3) participant identification for ranking by neutrosophic determination of results and application of aggregation operators. Application of this …
