Making A Difference In The Evolving Electronic Scholarly Publishing Economy, Johann Van Reenen Sep 1998

Making A Difference In The Evolving Electronic Scholarly Publishing Economy, Johann Van Reenen

University Libraries & Learning Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications

No library or information service can stand aloof from the current developments (legal, technological, and organizational) in scholarly publishing. I will be describing my personal actions to influence beneficial change, as well as those of the various groups I am involved with. This may be useful to chapter members and, I hope, stimulate more ideas for effecting changes in the electronic publishing environment before it, too, is usurped by for-profit publishers.

This collection of essays deals with issues related to housing, and urban and environmental planning in Nepal. Specific focus is on the planning and environmental problems related to the towns of the Kathmandu Valley.

Nepal is facing several challenges in the areas of urban and environmental management and planning . Rapidly increasing population is exerting pressure in all aspects of urban infrastructure, services and housing. The Extraction And Coordination Chemistry Of An Organophosphorus Ligand: The Synthesis And Characterization Of Organophosphorus Ligands And Dendrimers Using The Michael-Type Addition, Evelyn M. Bond

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

In chapter 1, the liquid/ liquid extraction of americium (III) from nitric and hydrochloric acid solutions with chloroform solutions of 2, 6 bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]pyridine N, P, P' trioxide (ENOPOPO) is examined. Americium (III) is efficiently extracted from aqueous solutions at high nitric acid concentrations (DAm > 3000 at 6 M HNO3) and can be totally back extracted from the organic phrase at 0.01 M HNO3. The ligand dependency data suggest that two ligand molecules are coordinated to the americium. From hydrochloric acid solutions, ENPOPO exhibits modest extraction ability for americium (III) (DAm = 2.2 at 5 M …

Is It Evolution Yet? A Critique Of Evolutionary Archaeology, James L. Boone, Eric Alden Smith Jun 1998

Is It Evolution Yet? A Critique Of Evolutionary Archaeology, James L. Boone, Eric Alden Smith

Anthropology Faculty & Staff Publications

The application of Darwinian evolutionary theory to archaeology has taken two divergent and rather distinct paths over the past two decades. According to one program, often referred to as evolutionary archaeology, cultural change as seen in the archaeological record can best be explained in terms of the direct action of natural selection and other Darwinian processes on heritable variation in artifacts and behavior. The other approach, referred to as evolutionary or behavioral ecology, explains cultural and behavioral change as forms of phenotypic adaptation to varying social and ecological conditions, using the assumption that natural selection has designed organisms to respond …
