Hadron Models And Related New Energy Issues, Florentin Smarandache Jan 2007

Hadron Models And Related New Energy Issues, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The present book covers a wide-range of issues from alternative hadron models to their likely implications in New Energy research, including alternative interpretation of lowenergy reaction (coldfusion) phenomena. The authors explored some new approaches to describe novel phenomena in particle physics. M Pitkanen introduces his nuclear string hypothesis derived from his Topological Geometrodynamics theory, while E. Goldfain discusses a number of nonlinear dynamics methods, including bifurcation, pattern formation (complex GinzburgLandau equation) to describe elementary particle masses. Fu Yuhua discusses a plausible method for prediction of phenomena related to New Energy development. F. Smarandache discusses his unmatter hypothesis, and A. Yefremov …

Is there an absolute reality? Yes, “God” is the only absolute reality. The three main religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam have all claimed that God is a supreme reality, and that all other creatures are finite beings. Since they relatively continue and also relatively change, so they can not be absolute. The world is full of paradoxes, there is no absolute persistence, and also there is no change at a stretch. There is no absolute truth and there is no continuous falsehood. What exist are many faces or aspects between the two terms. Those faces are reduced to a neutral …

Mammals And Amphibians Of Southeast Alaska, S.O. Macdonald, Joseph A. Cook Jan 2007

Mammals And Amphibians Of Southeast Alaska, S.O. Macdonald, Joseph A. Cook

Special Publications

This report continues the process of documenting the 82 species of mammals and 8 amphibians known to occur, or have recently occurred, In Southeast Alaska. Species accounts are based on a review of the literature, examination of specl mens and associated field notes at natural history museums, and a series of expeditions we conducted through 1999 through the University of Alaska Museum of the North. Our primary conclusion from this survey is that information as basic as distribution and taxonomic status is unavailable for most species of mammals and amphibians. Most species are poorly documented with 53% of mammals represented …

Lifetime Reproductive Effort, Eric Charnov, Robin Warne, Melanie Moses

Biology Faculty & Staff Publications

The concept of lifetime reproductive effort[LRE] is defined for arbitrary age structured populations. Optimal life history theory with metabolic production constraints is developed to predict the numeric value of LRE; This is tested with large data sets for mammals and lizards.

Modeling Reservoir Storage Scenarios By Consensus, Susan Kelly Jan 2007

Modeling Reservoir Storage Scenarios By Consensus, Susan Kelly

Law of the Rio Chama

Computer modeling is a powerful scientific tool used to simulate the behavior of systems under a variety of possible future scenarios. Many scientists are involved in simulating the Rio Grande in various conditions, both natural and manmade. This article describes a collaborative process for developing simulations that can be used to understand the probable effects of changed operations of the system of Rio Grande reservoirs. Participants learned that even developing hypothetical model runs can be controversial. It was difficult to achieve consensus among a diverse group of interested parties on how to model future scenarios for management of the reservoirs.

History Of The Minnow Litigation And Its Implications For The Future Of Reservoir Operations On The Rio Grande, Lara Katz

Law of the Rio Chama

At the intersection of the Endangered Species Act and the Rio Grande lies the silvery minnow. In 1996, this tiny endangered fish found itself at the heart of a drought-sparked battle over the Rio Grande between an array of interests that has resulted in a tangled morass of litigation. The history of the minnow litigation, the legislative response it provoked, and the attempts at collaborative solutions all show a system under stress. The issues brought out in the struggle between the endangered silvery minnow and the various water users along the Rio Grande go to the heart of the relationships …

The Impact Of Full And Beneficial Use Of San Juan-Chama Project Water By The City Of Albuquerque On New Mexico's Rio Grande Compact Obligations, Kevin G. Flanigan, Amy I. Haas

Law of the Rio Chama

In 2004, the New Mexico State Engineer approved a permit allowing the City of Albuquerque to divert from the Rio Grande the approximately 48,200 acre-feet per year of water it receives from the San Juan-Chama Project, a trans-basin diversion project that imports water from the Colorado River basin to the Rio Grande basin. Over the last 30 years, the City has consumed little of its San Juan-Chama water but rather has provided it to various third parties for their use. However, at the end of 2008, the City plans to commence surface diversion of its San Juan-Chama water and anticipates …

Current And Historical Aquatic Food Webs Of The Middle Rio Grande, Nm, Melanie S. Edwards Nov 2006

Current And Historical Aquatic Food Webs Of The Middle Rio Grande, Nm, Melanie S. Edwards

Biology ETDs

The Rio Grande has been identified as one of the most endangered rivers in the United States by American Rivers. Biologically, the consequences of the massive anthropogenic alterations of this river have been substantial. The overall aim of this study was to characterize the ecological implications of these alterations in the aquatic food web of the middle Rio Grande (MRG) of New Mexico. Our approach was to analyze the stable isotope composition of current food web components and of historical museum preserved fish specimens. After determining that we could use stable isotope analyses of historical museum preserved fish specimens (chapter …

Educational Materials on Latin American Energy

This short guide is divided into four sections. Each one provides an explanation of climate change and how it affects the following: ecosystems; our role as global citizens; our daily habits; the problems associated with the current energy sector; possible clean energy alternatives; and the challenge of transportation.

Himalayan Policy Research Conference

Association for Himalayan Policy Research: Through various scholarly activities, NSC aims to create a global network of scholars, professionals, and policy practitioners interested in the policy and development of Nepal and the Himalayan region. Eventually, NSC plans to create an Association for Himalayan Policy Research. Journal publications and Himalayan-focused conference at Wisconsin University are important activities contributing to this collaboration, and our initial attempt to create this network has been very successful. Many scholars from the US, Europe, Far East, Australia, and Nepal are joining this network.

Greenhouse Gas Mitigation And Climate Change Adaptation: Some Policies For Nepal, Ambika P. Adhikari Oct 2006

Greenhouse Gas Mitigation And Climate Change Adaptation: Some Policies For Nepal, Ambika P. Adhikari

Himalayan Policy Research Conference

Although Nepal is an extremely insignificant emitter of global carbon – emitting less than 0.1% of global emissions - it is burdened by a disproportionately high degree of vulnerability to the adverse effects of climate change. Nepal’s exposures include the possibilities of increased GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Floods) phenomenon, the melting mountains syndrome, and decrease in agricultural production, increase in vector borne diseases, loss of important bio-diversity assets and change in the hydrological cycles and resulting effects. Given her limited financial resources, and a weak institutional capacity, the changing climate will likely reduce Nepal’s GDP, increase the society’s disease burden, …
