Teachers-As-Designer In Culturally Revitalizing And Sustaining Indigenous Education, Joshua Colin Krause
Teachers-As-Designer In Culturally Revitalizing And Sustaining Indigenous Education, Joshua Colin Krause
Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs
Despite centuries of colonial attempts to assimilate and eradicate Indigenous ways of life and tongues through the institutions of schooling, communities, students, and teacher-designers are embracing culturally sustaining and revitalizing pedagogies to design curricula from community-driven outcomes backward. Sustaining and revitalizing curricula are place and people-specific and cannot be bought off the shelf, and research in original curriculum design points to the complexities that teacher-designers contend with as they seek community input and put pen to paper to design teaching and learning that is rooted in student identity, holistic wellness, and academic preparedness toward community ends. Research into expert teacher-designers' …
Understanding The Nature Of Pulsars And Characterizing Propagation Effects Using Pulsar Timing, Pratik Kumar
Understanding The Nature Of Pulsars And Characterizing Propagation Effects Using Pulsar Timing, Pratik Kumar
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
Pulsars are highly magnetized stellar remnants, among the densest known objects, and primarily produce radio emission in the form of lighthouse beams sweeping across the line of sight as a regular train of pulses. Apart from providing tests for matter in high-density regimes, general relativity, and plasma emission; perhaps the most notable characteristic is their applicability as precise astronomical clocks to measure various effects. Pulsar Timing Arrays (PTAs) are galactic scale detectors analogous to ground-based detectors of Gravitational Waves (GWs) like LIGO, with the aim of detecting low-frequency nano-Hz GWs from coalescing binary supermassive black holes. PTAs consist of a …

Developing Your Collection Development Policy, Robyn Gleasner, Deirdre Caparoso, Rachel Altobelli, Julia Kelso
Posters and Presentations
This pre-conference session will discuss the importance of a collection development policy, relevant sections to include for your library, and the reconsideration request/challenged material statement. We will provide general information about how to write a policy and then lessons learned from academic, public, and school librarians.

Open Access Publishing: A Guide To Understanding The Basics Of Open Access And How To Fund Publishing, Robyn Gleasner, Laura J. Hall
Posters and Presentations
The Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center originally presented this session at a Research Administration Forum and Training (RAFT) session. This presentation provided basic information about open access publishing including: Models and paths to Open Access Funding options such as article processing charges, publisher/transformative agreements, and including as a line item in grant proposals, and how these options may influence selection of scholarly output .
The Meaning Of 'Found' Objects By Contemporary Maya Ritual Practitioners, Linda Brown, Latin American And Iberian Institute
The Meaning Of 'Found' Objects By Contemporary Maya Ritual Practitioners, Linda Brown, Latin American And Iberian Institute
LAII Events
In the highlands of Guatemala, contemporary Maya ritual practitioners collect and curate special found objects as sacred materials. Many of these items are archaeological artifacts. In this talk, Dr. Brown will discuss what archaeological artifacts mean to their contemporary Maya collectors and how they are used. Specifically, Dr. Brown will focus on the vital role of found materials in communicating with ancestral beings.
Improving Human-Automation Collaboration In Motion Planning, Torin J. Adamson
Improving Human-Automation Collaboration In Motion Planning, Torin J. Adamson
Computer Science ETDs
Human-automation collaboration is becoming a part of everyday life as AI helps us drive, make decisions, and solve a variety of other tasks. However, safe and effective collaboration systems depend on factors in trust, communication, and more. Existing studies to explore these are typically carried out in laboratory settings, providing robust data under tight environmental control. However, human behavior evolves over time, driven by external factors that cannot be fully captured in single participation sessions. These factors form the "human context", contextualizing the behavioral data for a more complete understanding. In this thesis, video game adaptations upon conventional subject studies …

Hydrochemistry Of An Alpine Karst System, Northern New Mexico: Las Huertas, Kambray A. Townsend
Hydrochemistry Of An Alpine Karst System, Northern New Mexico: Las Huertas, Kambray A. Townsend
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
Las Huertas in the Sandia Mountains relies on snowmelt, monsoonal recharge, and groundwater inputs. Our hypothesis, the proportion of groundwater contribution varied spatially and temporally, was assessed by observing travertine and multiple geochemical tracers to differentiate water balance components. We report 26 samples from 13 locations (sampled between 2021-2023). Major ion and isotopic analysis indicated Las Huertas headsprings vary spatially. Capulin Spring has higher salinity; major ions suggest recharged waters are a mix of CaCO3-rich and sulfate-chloride-containing water. The proportion of groundwater to spring discharge is a mix of winter and summer precipitation. Travertine supersaturation is seasonal, with variations downstream, …
