The Data Policy Roundtable - The Future of Indian Health Information Systems was convened to explore options and develop strategies for future Indian Health Service/Tribal/Urban (I/T/U) program information systems. The concerns and needs of both tribes who chose to contract/compact and those who did not were considered.The focus was on developing strategies to create a new Indian health information system, one that was not an Indian Health Service system but rather a system designed and supported by tribal and urban health care delivery organizations and the Indian Health Service.The participants represented a broad range of concerns and needs. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of cervical cytology screening in the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and to compare the findings with results from other screening programs. METHODS: We analyzed data on 312,858 women aged 18 years and older who received one or more Papanicolaou smears, and follow-up if indicated, from October 1991 through June 1995 at screening sites across the United States providing comprehensive National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program services. Significant Developments During the Academic Year 1995-96 During much of this time, the main galleries were closed due to the extensive renovations of the performing arts spaces and the shared lobby area in the Fine Arts Center. We slowly began to emerge during the months of April and May, but full operations could not resume until fall. This response essay will first characterize UNHCR's role in the international protection of refugees, as a means of assessing the relevance of UNHCR's perspective to U.S. judicial decision-making in the area of asylum. The paper will then respond to each of the three problematic issues which Professor Fitzpatrick identifies in contemporary U.S. asylum law, by presenting, in each case, a broad proposition of international law which will then be substantiated with reference to relevant principles, guidelines and insights from the international refugee protection community of which UNHCR is a part. The objectives of this case-based study are identified as; 1) compare cancer incidence, mortality and survival for specified cancer sites in the population compared with that in older non-Indians; 2) list risk factors for the more common types of cancer; 3) describe the role of traditional healing within the cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery processes; 4) identify barriers which affect the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from cancer in older populations; and 5) define diagnosis, treatment, and management protocols. Purpose This joint Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Indian Health Service (IHS) describes the results of 1995-1996 Health Assessment Survey conducted among three tribes in the Indian Health Service's Nashville Area service area. The tribes are the Mississippi Band of Choctaw, Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy, and St. Regis Mohawk. This monograph delineates cancer mortality rates among American Indians among and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) within different regions served by the IHS.This monograph looked at only those Native American deaths between 1989-1993 in which the underlying cause of death was cancer. The IHS obtains the National Center for Health Statistics mortality data tapes for persons listed as Native American. To help control for fluctuation in rates that occur when there is a relatively small population and a small number of deaths, five years of data were examined.
