Development Of Neutrosophic Gamma Distribution For Modeling Neonatal Mortality Data, Fuad S. Alduais, Zahid Khan

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This study explores and investigates the key characteristics of the neutrosophic gamma model (NGM) to analyze neonatal mortality data. The proposed model has the ability to handle imprecision, vagueness and uncertainty in data which often exist in health statistics. The key characteristics of the proposed model such as the probability density function, cumulative distribution function, statistical moments and some basic shape coefficients are discussed to clarify its difference from the classical model. Air pollution mortality data are commonly encountered imprecise and incomplete information due to factors such as missing values, measurement errors, reporting inconsistencies. The proposed NGM has the inherent …

Quantified Neutrosophic Set (Qtns)-Based Mcdm Algorithms For Sustainable Material Selection For Anti-Microbial Bio-Fabricated Textile Manufacturing, Muhammad Saeed, Neha Andaleeb Khalid, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This paper proposes a modified structure for the neutrosophic set called the Quantified Neutrosophic Set (QtNS) with a parameterized setting. Unlike conventional approaches, the QtNS provides a quantified environment for the indeterminacy by its dependence on truthness and falsity components. This innovative approach quantifies the uncertainty and improves the assessment process via expert-guided opinions, customising it according to the specific situations in real-world decision-making scenarios. Some QtNS operations along with useful characteristics are addressed. Furthermore, two algorithms, QtNSUI and QtNSAO, are developed for the proposed operations of union, intersection, AND, and OR based on QtNS. In the world of sustainable …

Rare Case Of Fungal Osteomyelitis Affecting An Intramedullary Lag Screw, Matthew C. Watterson, Robert T. Rella, Timothy K. Summers, David Michaeli, Jess Mullens

Western Journal of Orthopaedics

Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone that is most commonly of bacterial origin. Cases of fungal osteomyelitis are rare, and treatment often requires a prolonged course of antimicrobials. The authors report a case of a 72-year old man with fungal osteomyelitis affecting an intracortical lag screw, which was discovered during fixation of the left femoral shaft following an injury that occurred 68 years after placement of the affected lag screw. Chronic osteomyelitis can be indolent and subclinical, with the patient experiencing no signs or symptoms of the disease despite having bone infection for decades. This condition may become clinically …

Tnf Prevents Establishment Of Anti-Tumor Immunity And Elucidates Toxicities Following Myxoma Virus Based Oncolytic Virotherapy, Miriam Beatriz Valenzuela Cardenas

Biomedical Sciences ETDs

Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF) can lead to tumor regression through its direct cytolytic activity, yet it has also been implicated to facilitate tumor progression. This scenario complicates the efficacy and applicability of TNF based therapeutics as treatment for malignancies. In the context of oncolytic virotherapy (OV) which uses replicating viruses to treat tumors and acts by triggering production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, exploring such mechanisms is vital. Here we show that a Myxoma based oncolytic virus (vPD1/IL12) can induce large amounts TNF. The presence of TNF in the context of vPD1/IL12 plays a detrimental role both for tumor regression by …

Identification Of Lncrnas Involved In The Host Response To Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Infection, Mahgol Behnia

Biomedical Sciences ETDs

Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) is an enveloped positive-sense RNA virus in the alphavirus genus of the Togaviridea family, that causes encephalitis in humans and equids. Currently no FDA-approved vaccine or treatment is available for human use, emphasizing the importance of studying host-VEEV interaction. lncRNAs are regulatory RNAs involved in modulation of antiviral pathways during viral infections. Here we report differential lncRNAs expression in primary mouse astrocytes and neurons during non-pathogenic (TC-83) but not pathogenic (TrD) VEEV infection. We further demonstrated that suppression of four lncRNAs increased TC-83 replication, with lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 15 (Snhg15) increasing TC-83 …

Developing Neutrosophic Cubic Spherical Fuzzy Sets Along With Their Exponential Aggregation Operators For Decision-Making Problems, Monika Yadav, Rakesh Kumar Bajaj, Aman Sharma

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

In this article, we have devised the notion of neutrosophic cubic spherical fuzzy sets (NCSFSs) for the first time and discussed their basic binary operations along with important properties. This proposition has been framed superimposing the existing notions of spherical neutrosophic set (SNS) as well as the interval-valued neutrosophic spherical fuzzy set (IVNSFS). This proposition computationally helps in handling incompatible situations where each element has been addressed by truth, indeterminacy, and false membership values. Next, some important exponential operational laws have been relationally established for NCSFSs, highlighting their significant properties. Furthermore, to address decision-making challenges in the NCSFS environment, we …

Adaptive Immune Profiling Of Sin Nombre Hantavirus And Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection, Tonilynn M. Baranowski

Biomedical Sciences ETDs

Hantaviruses are causative agents of potentially fatal respiratory illness and/or organ failure in humans worldwide. In the United States, the predominant hantavirus species, Sin Nombre hantavirus (SNV), causes a severe disease pathology, called hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS). Infection with SNV and subsequent clinical manifestations of HCPS lends itself to case fatality rates approaching 40%, even under supportive care. This is partially due to the lack of FDA-approved vaccines and antivirals, in addition to a deficit in our knowledge regarding the human immune response to SNV. Further investigation of the adaptive immune response may reveal key targets to mediate disease outcome. …

Host-Microbiome Interactions In The Teleost Brain, Amir Mani Varnoosfaderani

Biology ETDs

This dissertation investigates host-microbial interactions within the teleost brain, previously considered sterile. Reviewing current literature highlights significant gaps in understanding teleost brain immunity, despite prevalent neurotropic diseases. We mapped the immune profiles of rainbow trout brains and meninges, revealing the olfactory bulbs as the immune effector part of the brain and the optic tectum as a nod2 expression hub. High il6 and il10 levels were noted in the telencephalon. A persistent bacterial community within healthy salmonid brains shares diversity with gut and blood microbiota. Brain bacterial isolates exhibit genomic signatures for brain colonization and polyamine biosynthesis. The microbiota shifts across …

The Borders Of Embodiment: Transgression, Transformation, And Corporeality In Chicanx Speculative Fiction, Chrysta Carson Wilson Jul 2024

The Borders Of Embodiment: Transgression, Transformation, And Corporeality In Chicanx Speculative Fiction, Chrysta Carson Wilson

English Language and Literature ETDs

This dissertation develops a clearer vision of Chicanx Speculative Fiction (SF) as its own genre anchored to the experiences and histories of the Chicanx community, with a particular interest in the avenues through which race and gender shape the experience of embodiment. SF resists hegemonic narratives that justify racial hierarchies and reveals both the cultural and concrete pressures exerted on Chicanx bodies in the United States as a minoritized and often exploited community. Furthermore, my analysis illustrates that Chicanx writers utilize elements of SF to defamiliarize traditional notions of race, class, and nationality. Through the use of defamiliarization, Chicanx SF …
