Implications For Cross-Training Between Applied Behavior Analysis And Speech-Language Pathology, Katherine Lynn Isaacson
Implications For Cross-Training Between Applied Behavior Analysis And Speech-Language Pathology, Katherine Lynn Isaacson
Speech and Hearing Sciences Publications
This paper is to provide clarity about the overlaps between the fields of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and speech-language pathology, including evaluation, assessment, intervention planning, and treatment of language development, nine articles were selected for a review of terms and definitions, philosophical and theoretical underpinnings, and licensure/certification requirements pertaining to both scopes of practice. Behavior analysts and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are likely to provide intervention alongside one another due to their frequent provision of intervention with individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Despite broad, initial overlaps between the professions, the required educational coursework, supervised fieldwork and clinical practicums, and …
Permeability And Porosity Of Loose Granular Salt, Evan J. Babcock
Permeability And Porosity Of Loose Granular Salt, Evan J. Babcock
Civil Engineering ETDs
In this study, permeability and porosity measurements are made and reported for loose granular salt from the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). Measurements are made on a particularly wide range of particle sizes of this salt in a permeameter constructed large enough to fit and represent mixtures containing salt particles up to 25.4 cm in size. Salt samples with different particle size distributions are constructed and tested at varying levels of consolidation due to induced vibrations. Permeability measurements are made at a varying range of porosities for a given sample. Measurements are also compared with a predictive model for permeability …
The Return On Investment For Dual Credit, Samantha Sengel
The Return On Investment For Dual Credit, Samantha Sengel
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Scrutiny of colleges and universities based upon student success factors such as retention, persistence, time to degree and graduation has indicated that interventions often have incremental impact. Access to dual credit, the taking of college courses while in high school, as an intervention for maintaining the engagement of high achieving students and re-connecting disengaged, underserved student populations has had proven positive outcomes for many decades. The purpose of this research study was to understand the relationship between dual credit and several higher education measures and outcomes including retention and persistence, likelihood of receiving an award, and ultimately the cost of …

Interfacial Interactions Of Uranium And Hdpe In Agricultural Soil And Their Bioacummulation In Mentha Arvensis, Casey Miller, Andrew Neidhart, Kendra Hess, Abdul-Mehdi S. Ali, Angelica Benavidez, Michael Spilde, Laura Green, José M. Cerrato, Jorge Gonzalez Estrella, Eliane El Hayek
Civil Engineering ETDs
We investigated the adsorption, precipitation, and phytoavailability of uranium after reactions with soil, high-density polyethylene particles, and Mentha arvensis through the integration of batch experiments, plant exposure, microscopy, and spectroscopy. Soluble U (initially 100 µM) decreased by 98.6% (1.09 µM) at pH 5 and 86.2% (13.81 µM) at pH 7.5 after 0.1 h of reaction with 10 g of soil in solution. Heterogenous U precipitates were observed in weathered HDPE surfaces for experiments without soil at both pH conditions. This suggests the weathering of the microplastic surfaces enhanced the nucleation of the U precipitates. Plants exposed to both U and …
Coloniality And Paradoxes Of Migrancy: Experiences Of Nicaraguan Migrants In Costa Rica, Darcey Rydl
Coloniality And Paradoxes Of Migrancy: Experiences Of Nicaraguan Migrants In Costa Rica, Darcey Rydl
Communication ETDs
Vernacular (personal) discourses surrounding Nicaraguan immigration to Costa Rica were investigated through the lens of coloniality – a theoretical and conceptual process of understanding how the Eurocentered matrix of power and knowledge produces the subjectivity of peoples through exploitation (Mignolo & Walsh, 2019). Compared to national discourses, this study asked how vernacular discourses may challenge colonial social structures of power as well as support those same structures of power. To elicit these discourses, oral histories were conducted with nine Nicaraguans who have fled their country because of political violence. Oral histories allow for a complete account of the past by …

The intention of this survey was to examine the value and utilization of dental services during pregnancy, to identify the value being placed on oral health and dental services during pregnancy. Also, to assess if the women received oral health education from obstetric providers. Pregnancy temporarily increases the risk of periodontal diseases, the prevalence of periodontal diseases is very high during pregnancy, 60-75% of women can be affected. Previous literature suggests that poor oral health is linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes such as pre-term births, low birth weights, and pre-eclampsia. Data was obtained and collected using REDCap. Utilizing the collected …
“Finding The Positive” In Recovery: Psychometric Properties Of A Measure Of Human Flourishing In An Alcohol Use Disorder Recovery Sample, Hannah A. Carlon
“Finding The Positive” In Recovery: Psychometric Properties Of A Measure Of Human Flourishing In An Alcohol Use Disorder Recovery Sample, Hannah A. Carlon
Psychology ETDs
The fields of alcohol use disorder (AUD) recovery and positive psychology have both rapidly grown in recent years, are paralleled in their philosophy and goals, but have scarcely overlapped. An important first step to applying positive psychology to addiction treatment and recovery is quantifying the extent that treatment-as-usual encourages human flourishing (i.e., holistic well-being and adequate functioning). The PERMA Profiler is a measure based on the PERMA model of flourishing, captured across five positive psychology domains (i.e., Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishments), and has been validated in a wide variety of samples. The …
Reactions In The Microannulus Of A Wellbore System With Produced Water From The Permian Basin, Ernesto J. Perea
Reactions In The Microannulus Of A Wellbore System With Produced Water From The Permian Basin, Ernesto J. Perea
Civil Engineering ETDs
The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the products from steel corrosion and cement dissolution after reaction with produced water (PW) on the permeability of a wellbore microannulus. The wellbore microannulus is the interface between wellbore cement and steel casing and is often identified as a leakage pathway in wellbore systems. The need to better understand the impact of PW on well integrity aids in the assessment of environmental impacts of energy production. Static batch reactors were used to expose a cement – steel microannulus to two PW solutions, a simulated PW, and a field sampled …
Rapid Response Protocol (Rrp) For Monitoring Water Quality Parameters For Wildfire Disturbance, Paige G. Tunby
Rapid Response Protocol (Rrp) For Monitoring Water Quality Parameters For Wildfire Disturbance, Paige G. Tunby
Civil Engineering ETDs
The increase in wildfire frequency and intensity has been driven by the sensitivity of fire regimes to climate changes and fire suppression. Wildfires impact hydrological and environmental processes and ecosystem service due to the mobilization of wildfire debris by precipitation. Data on post-fire water quality dynamics have been measured in a few study cases from burned watersheds where sensors were deployed to monitor non-fire-related water quality issues. This has led to a dearth of data for understanding the effects of wildfire disturbances on fluvial networks. To close the gap in available water quality data, we have created a rapid response …

Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
The current study looked to expand on established literature on the detrimental outcomes of corporal punishment by examining the long-term longitudinal associations between corporal punishment and children’s aggression in gender and racially diverse, low-income samples. Data were collected from 17 sites across the United States, with urban and rural locations included from an Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project (EHSREP). Lastly, the study aimed to look at self-regulation as a mediator to help explain the relationship between corporal punishment and aggression. The results show an overall positive association between corporal punishment and aggression. This means higher levels of harsh …
Implementation Of Pharmacy Access To Hormonal Contraception, Lindsay E. Dale
Implementation Of Pharmacy Access To Hormonal Contraception, Lindsay E. Dale
Biomedical Sciences ETDs
Women report significant barriers to obtaining hormonal contraception prescriptions, including difficulty scheduling clinician appointments, inconvenient clinic hours and desire to avoid pelvic examinations. To increase contraceptive access, states throughout the United States have and continue to pass legislation authorizing pharmacists to prescribe hormonal contraception, allowing women to initiate contraception directly at the pharmacy without involvement of a physician. Despite patient and pharmacist interest in direct pharmacy access to contraception, many pharmacists report challenges to prescribing contraception. Few studies have assessed the uptake of pharmacy-prescribed contraception in states with expanded pharmacist prescriptive authority, but no prior studies have evaluated the implementation …

Models were adjusted for demographic traits, standard comorbidity indices, and three novel parameters representing all prior diagnoses, …
The Political Urgency Of Black Manhood: Frederick Douglass On Constitutional Theory, John M. Kang
The Political Urgency Of Black Manhood: Frederick Douglass On Constitutional Theory, John M. Kang
Faculty Scholarship
How did Frederick Douglass—one who was born a slave, one who had been denied all formal education, one who had been sundered from his family, one who had been starved, tortured, and, on occasion, nearly killed—manage to muster the courage to do something as bold as challenge the United States Supreme Court? This Article suggests that Douglass, in order to assert his right as an American citizen, first had to assert his right as a man in an explicitly gendered sense. That is, Douglass had to muster a powerful sense of manliness that could elevate him psychologically to assert his …

Measurement Invariance Of Relationship Intimacy And Attachment Across Hispanic And Non-Hispanic White College Women, Kristen N. Vitek
Measurement Invariance Of Relationship Intimacy And Attachment Across Hispanic And Non-Hispanic White College Women, Kristen N. Vitek
Psychology ETDs
The study of relationship intimacy and attachment has gained increasingly greater attention within the field. As such, researchers have developed numerous self-report measures of relationship intimacy and attachment. However, a majority of such measures have been developed and validated with White, Western populations, which calls into question the validity of such measures when used with minority populations. One way to establish validity of measures is to test for measurement invariance; namely, that the measures assess the same constructs across groups. The focus of this study was to test the measurement invariance of two commonly used measures of relationship intimacy, the …
Using Insurance To Regulate Food Safety: Field Notes From The Food Produce Sector, Timothy D. Lytton
Using Insurance To Regulate Food Safety: Field Notes From The Food Produce Sector, Timothy D. Lytton
New Mexico Law Review
Foodborne illness is a public health problem of pandemic proportions. In the United States alone, contaminated food sickens an estimated 48 million consumers annually, causing 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. Nowhere is this crisis more acute than in the fresh produce sector, where microbial contamination in growing fields and packing houses has been responsible for many of the nation’s largest and deadliest outbreaks.
This Article examines emerging efforts by private insurance companies to regulate food safety on farms that grow fresh produce.
Previous studies of using insurance to regulate food safety rely on economic theories that yield competing conclusions. Optimists …

A Model Of Collegial Judicial Decision-Making: The Ransom-Montgomery Years On The New Mexico Supreme Court, Michael B. Browde, Mario E. Occhialino
New Mexico Law Review
After first providing brief biographies of the justices and their personal relationship, the article examines two subject matter areas where their differing views were most fully developed and made a significant contribution to the development of the law:
- First, the restructuring of the law of negligence with an emphasis on the creation and nature of a duty of care; and
- Second, the legal principles governing the jurisdiction of the New Mexico appellate courts and the resulting tension between legislative and judicial authority over provisions governing access to the appellate courts.
The article concludes with our assessment that sound judicial development …
More Than #Freebritney: Remedying Constitutional Violations In Guardianship For People With Disabilities, Hannah Shotwell
More Than #Freebritney: Remedying Constitutional Violations In Guardianship For People With Disabilities, Hannah Shotwell
New Mexico Law Review
Adult guardianship is used as a method to restrict the decisionmaking rights of some individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who have been deemed “incompetent.” However, the use of guardianship to remove someone’s decisionmaking rights violates the equal protection rights granted by the New Mexico Constitution. Discrimination against people with developmental disabilities must be substantially related to an important governmental interest, and the current state of guardianship fails to meet that bar. Further, guardianship violates the state constitutional guarantee of due process because it infringes on the fundamental right to the least restrictive means of care. New Mexico must adopt …

A Deliberate Difference?: The Rights Of Incarcerated Individuals Under The New Mexico State Constitution, Carson Thornton González
New Mexico Law Review
Historically, to bring claims against government officials for unconstitutional prison conditions, individuals incarcerated in New Mexico had one vehicle for redress: Section 1983 claims based on the protections of the Federal Constitution. If an individual seeks relief via Section 1983 for prison conditions that are in violation of the Eighth Amendments protections against cruel and unusual punishment, courts apply a “deliberate indifference” standard to determine the liability of prison officials. This defendant-friendly standard requires that incarcerated plaintiffs suffer an objective harm and—crucially—that the relevant officials have a culpable state-of-mind of deliberate indifference. In 2021, the New Mexico Legislature passed the …

A Phenotypic Screen For Compounds That Reverse Camp-Mediated Suppression Of T Cell Functions, David Barrett, Meghan Wyatt, Haim Bar, Mark K. Haynes, Bruce S. Edwards, Larry A. Sklar, Adam Zweifach
Pathology Research and Scholarship
The solid tumor microenvironment (TME) suppresses immune responses. Three alterations in the TME converge on a pathway triggered by elevated cyclic AMP (cAMP) that suppresses T cell receptor (TCR) signaling. We developed a phenotypic assay to screen for small molecules that interfere with this pathway using TALL-104 human leukemic cytotoxic T lymphocytes pretreated with prostaglandin E2 to elevate cAMP. Beads coated with anti-CD3 antibodies stimulate lytic granule exocytosis, which is detected via binding of an antibody against lysosome associated membrane protein 1 (LAMP-1) measured with flow cytometry. Confirming that the assay can find compounds with desired activity, treating cells with …

Supporting Gps In The Management Of Children And Young People With Adhd Through Project Echo, Dana Newcomb, Phil Nixon, Perrin Moss, Vishal Kapoor
Project ECHO Bibliography
Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) accounts for a high proportion of paediatric outpatient visits in Australia. Shared care by general practitioners (GPs) would deliver more timely care, closer to home, however GPs indicated the need for interprofessional training support. This study describes the use of Project ECHO
Methods: A retrospective pre/post-knowledge and self-efficacy survey across twenty-seven aspects of ADHD management was administered, using a seven-point Likert scale.
Results: Significant improvement (p < 0.001) in provider self-efficacy was demonstrated across all tested domains.
Discussion: Use of the ECHO model™ by an interprofessional team of paediatric specialists achieved an increase in GP knowledge and self-efficacy in the local management of children and …

Gen Z is defined as including persons born after 1996 and, in 2018, the first Gen Z would have been twenty-two years old, the historically traditional age that many complete undergraduate studies and enter law school. With Gen Z entering law schools, the legal academy has been wholeheartedly preparing for the arrival of the first truly digital native generation in a myriad of ways. However, law training has been slow to progress in addressing the unspoken complexities of context and unconscious bias in the classroom with this population. Today’s Gen Z students were predominately raised in de facto segregated schools …

Tribal Labor And Employment Law: The Evolution Of The Navajo Preference In Employment Act, Paul Spruhan
Faculty Scholarship
For nearly 40 years, the Navajo Nation (“Nation”) has regulated labor and employment (except for occupational safety and worker’s compensation) through one statute, the Navajo Preference in Employment Act (NPEA). Despite its seemingly narrow title, the NPEA is a comprehensive law on the subject. First passed in 1985, it has gone through general and specific revisions to reflect tribal leaders’ views on the balance between the interests of employees and employers, both within and outside the tribal government. In its own right, the NPEA is an important manifestation of a Navajo-specific view of labor and employment that every attorney practicing …

Vulnerability, Invulnerability, And The Mechanism Of Disavowal, Mariah C. Partida
Philosophy ETDs
In this dissertation, I defend the view that, contrary to popular opinion, vulnerability is not merely susceptibility to harm but also openness to unanticipated change and transformation. Drawing on the work of Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler, Erinn Gilson, Gilles Deleuze, and Benedict Spinoza, I also aim to show that vulnerability is not a static property of some individuals but rather a relational process that is both universal and differently distributed. My original contribution to vulnerability studies is to trace the mechanism of disavowal across 20th and 21st century figures in philosophy: from Heidegger’s account of disavowing our …
