The Evans Site: A Contribution To The Archaeology Of The Gallina Region, Northern New Mexico, Charles H. Lange
The Evans Site: A Contribution To The Archaeology Of The Gallina Region, Northern New Mexico, Charles H. Lange
Anthropology ETDs
The Gallina Region in northern New Mexico is most accurately located by the intersection of 36 degrees 22' North parallel and the 101 degrees 52' West meridian. This is nearly the point at which the Llegua River, coming from the continental Divide about ten miles to the west, flows into the Gallina River (Plate II, a). A circle with this confluence as a center and with a fifteen-mile radius, would include the major portion of the ruins belonging to the Gallina group. Additional sites have been located west of the Divide in the Largo, Companero, Governador (Gobernador) drainages; south in …
A Brief History Of Anthropology In Brazil, Donald Brand
A Brief History Of Anthropology In Brazil, Donald Brand
New Mexico Anthropologist
The history of Anthropology in Brazil begins with the discovery of that country in 1500. This is not only because its inhabitants were first described in that year, but also because of the wealth of ethnographic and linguistic material that was obtained and recorded by hundreds of explorers, missionaries, and others in the following centuries before the arrival of the professional anthropologist.'"

Southwestern Archaeology Book Review, Charles Lange
Southwestern Archaeology Book Review, Charles Lange
New Mexico Anthropologist
According to his preface, McGregor's intentions were to fulfill a need for a general summary of the vast literature on southwestern archaeology. Cultural centers were emphasized; outlying cultures were mentioned; and more peripheral aspects were omitted. More detailed data were indicated by specific and general bibliographies. The book was intended to serve as an introductory paper for the beginner and as a summary for the more advanced student.

The Peoples And Languages Of Chile, Donald Brand
The Peoples And Languages Of Chile, Donald Brand
New Mexico Anthropologist
This article initiates a series in which the writer will attempt to summarize the scattered and commonly contradictory material on the present ethnic and linguistic constituency of a number of Latin American countries. It represents some personal investigations in the field and an examination of much of the pertinent literature.
The Status Of Anthropology In Chile, Donald Brand
The Status Of Anthropology In Chile, Donald Brand
New Mexico Anthropologist
Chile recognizes the existence of Anthropology, but has no formally trained anthropologists, and has no chairs or departments of Anthropology. Due to the existence of archaeologic material pertaining to a number of the higher middle American cultures in northern Chile, and the existence of aboriginal populations in Araucania and Fuegia, both Chileans and foreigners have long carried on desultory investigations in archaeology, ethnology, linguistics, and physical anthropology. This work has been highly sporadic in time, spotted in areal distribution, and uneven in quantity, quality, and content subject.
