Sf6+: Stabilizing Transient Ions In Helium Nanodroplets, Simon Albertini, Stefan Bergmeister, Felix Laimer, Paul Martini, Elisabeth Gruber, Fabio Zappa, Milan Ončák, Paul Scheier, Olof E. Echt

There are myriads of ions that are deemed too short-lived to be experimentally accessible. One of them is SF6+. It has never been observed, although not for lack of trying. We demonstrate that long-lived SF6+ can be formed by doping charged helium nanodroplets (HNDs) with sulfur hexafluoride; excess helium is then gently stripped from the doped HNDs by collisions with helium gas. The ion is identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry (resolution m/Dm = 15000), the close agreement between the expected and observed yield of ions that contain minor sulfur isotopes, and collision-induced dissociation …
Assessing Marginal Shallow-Water Bathymetric Information Content Of Lidar Sounding Attribute Data And Derived Seafloor Geomorphometry, Kim Lowell, Brian R. Calder
Assessing Marginal Shallow-Water Bathymetric Information Content Of Lidar Sounding Attribute Data And Derived Seafloor Geomorphometry, Kim Lowell, Brian R. Calder
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping
Shallow-water depth estimates from airborne lidar data might be improved by using sounding attribute data (SAD) and ocean geomorphometry derived from lidar soundings. Moreover, an accurate derivation of geomorphometry would be beneficial to other applications. The SAD examined here included routinely collected variables such as sounding intensity and fore/aft scan direction. Ocean-floor geomorphometry was described by slope, orientation, and pulse orthogonality that were derived from the depth estimates of bathymetry soundings using spatial extrapolation and interpolation. Four data case studies (CSs) located near Key West, Florida (United States) were the testbed for this study. To identify bathymetry soundings in lidar …

Granite Staters Divided Over Ending Mask Mandate 4/21/2021, Unh Survey Center
Granite Staters Divided Over Ending Mask Mandate 4/21/2021, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Nearly half of New Hampshire residents oppose Governor Sununu's decision to end the statewide mask mandate. Republicans are strongly in support but Democrats are adamantly opposed and Independents are divided. Granite Staters are comfortable going to a restaurant sitting outdoors or indoors or going to a barber shop or salon, but majorities are still uncomfortable going to a bar, gym, movie theater, stadium, or concert. Residents are optimistic about New Hampshire's economic recovery - two-thirds believe the economy will recover to pre-pandemic levels within twelve months.

Four-In-Five Adults Are Vaccinated Or Intend To Get A Vaccine, Sarah Boege
Four-In-Five Adults Are Vaccinated Or Intend To Get A Vaccine, Sarah Boege
Carsey Publications
In this data snapshot, author Sarah Boege reports that by March 29, one-quarter of U.S. adults reported that they had already received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, 39.1 percent hadn’t yet been vaccinated but reported that they will “definitely” get one when available and another 17.4 percent said that they “probably” will. However, 10.1 percent of adults will “probably not” and 8.2 percent will “definitely not” get a vaccine.
These data suggest that a large majority of adults could be vaccinated in the coming months, but experts see risks in having a sizeable group remain …

Record-high air temperatures were observed over Greenland in the summer of 2019 and melting of the northern Greenland Ice Sheet was particularly extensive. Here we show, through direct measurements, that near surface ocean temperatures in Sherard Osborn Fjord, northern Greenland, reached 4 °C in August 2019, while in the neighboring Petermann Fjord, they never exceeded 0 °C. We show that this disparity in temperature between the two fjords occurred because thick multi-year sea ice at the entrance of Sherard Osborn Fjord trapped the surface waters inside the fjord, which led to the formation of a warm and fresh surface layer. …
