New Hampshire May Be The Granite State, But Its Voting Population Is Always In Flux, Kenneth M. Johnson, Andrew Smith, Dante Scala

Carsey Publications

In this data snapshot, authors Kenneth Johnson, Andrew Smith, and Dante Scala discuss changes in the New Hampshire voting population since 2016 and its implications for the 2022 mid-term election. Once again, New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate contest is one of a handful that will determine control of Congress. The electorate that will choose between Democratic incumbent Maggie Hassan and Republican challenger Don Bolduc is quite different than the one Hassan faced just six years ago, when she won by only 1,017 votes. Granite Staters Believe Teachers Underpaid; Many Think Nh Schools Teach Critical Race Theory 10/20/2022, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Half of New Hampshire residents think local teachers are underpaid and bipartisan pluralities support raising their pay even if their local school budget increased. Most residents think that parents or guardians should have primary responsibility for sexual education of children but that the local school should also play a role. Four in ten Granite Staters believe critical race theory is being taught at least to some degree in primary schools, while a large percentage believe it is taught in colleges and universities in the state. Only one-third of state residents support the 2021 law banning the teaching of "divisive concepts" …

Mapping The Seafloor With Ros Using Project11, Roland Arsenault Oct 2022

Mapping The Seafloor With Ros Using Project11, Roland Arsenault

Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping

Project11 is a ROS based open-source framework for surface marine robots specializing in seafloor mapping. The operator’s interface is used to quickly specify, modify and send missions to a robot while a robust bridge helps manage data flow over unreliable network links. A plugin enabled navigation stack allows the development and testing of planners and controllers designed for mapping tasks. Contributions to the community include features from Project11 being adapted by commercial partners as well as the development of open source drivers for sensors.

A Ros-Enabled Floating Hackathon: Coordinating Multiple Marine Robots, Roland Arsenault, Laura Lindzey

Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping

The 2022 NOAA Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute cruise featured 3 different marine robots from 3 different institutions operating in parallel from the Exploration Vessel Nautilus. Our goal was to demonstrate technologies that will increase the amount of scientific data collected per unit of (expensive!) ship time. We highlight 3 missions that demonstrated robot/robot and robot/human collaboration, as well as some of the factors that make marine robotics challenging. This talk focuses on two of these robots that run ROS and discusses how ROS enabled faster development and simplified collaboration between institutions.
