Granite Staters Support Obamacare Subsidies, Disapprove Of Trump & Congress's Handling Of Health Care 1/26/2026, Unh Survey Center

Just over half of New Hampshire residents support extending the recently expired Obamacare subsidies and nearly half of residents would support instituting a national "single-payer" health care system. Granite Staters are divided along partisan lines on whether to expand or repeal Obamacare. Most Granite Staters say that medical costs have increased in the past year and nearly one-third say someone in their household has postponed getting health care due to cost. A majority disapprove of President Trump's handling of healthcare and Granite Staters are even more negative about the performance of Congress on the issue.

Majorities of Vermont residents support extending temporary Obamacare subsidies, expanding Obamacare overall, loosening restrictions on Medicaid eligibility, and establishing a national "single-payer" health care system. Vermonters strongly disapprove of President Trump and Congress's handling of health care. Nearly half of state residents say that paying for overall medical expenses is difficult and two-thirds say that their costs have increased in the past twelve months.

Approval of President Trump’s handling of foreign policy in New Hampshire remained largely unchanged in the wake of the capture of Venezuela’s President Maduro and pressure to acquire Greenland from Denmark, but is sharply divided by partisanship. Half of New Hampshire residents oppose the capture of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and few support sending ground troops to occupy the country. Very few support launching a military attack on Mexico or Colombia. Vermonters Disapprove Of Trump's Foreign Policy, Believe World Views U.S. Poorly 1/23/2026, Unh Survey Center

Vermont residents strongly oppose the decision to capture Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and less than one-tenth support sending ground troops to occupy the country. Vermonters also oppose occupying Greenland or launching military attacks in Mexico or Colombia. Overall, three-quarters of Vermonters oppose President Trump's handling of foreign policy and rate the reputation of the U.S. among the rest of the world as poor or very poor.

Operating On Thin Margins: The Cost Of Providing New Hampshire Child Care, Tyrus Parker, Jess Carson

In this primer, authors Tyrus Parker and Jess Carson summarize available data on the cost of operating a child care program in New Hampshire. Using data from a 50-state cost calculator as well as three local child care programs, the authors find that despite high child care costs for families, tuition alone is largely insufficient revenue for program operation. As a result, child care program operators must make difficult tradeoffs around program offerings, program quality, and compensation for educators. The authors call for rigorous data collection and modeling to support planning a sustainable financial model for the Granite State’s early …

Sununu, Pappas Frontrunners In 2026 Nh Senate Race; Ayotte Favored For Re-Election As Governor 1/21/2026, Unh Survey Center

In the race for the open seat of retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen, her predecessor, former Senator John E. Sununu, leads former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown for the Republican nomination, while Congressman Chris Pappas is the Democratic favorite. Pappas leads both Sununu and Brown in general election matchups. In New Hampshire's First Congressional District, Stefany Shaheen leads a large field of candidates seeking the Democratic nomination while most Republican voters are undecided. In the Second District, incumbent Democrat Maggie Goodlander is well ahead of her primary challenger and leads 2024 Republican opponent Lily Tang Williams in a hypothetical 2026 rematch.

New Hampshire Child Care Scholarship Program Reaches Young Children Statewide, Harshita Sarup, Jess Carson

In this brief, authors Harshita Sarup and Jess Carson offer an update on enrollment in the New Hampshire Care Scholarship Program and describe the age and geographic distribution of enrolled children. Using data from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, the authors confirm that enrollment more than doubled between December 2023—just before program eligibility was expanded in January 2024—and December 2025. More than 5,800 children, two-thirds of whom are under age five, are now served through the program, reaching each county of the state. The authors underscore the importance of continuously tracking program implementation and leveraging local …
