Approval Of Biden's Handling Of Ukraine Jumps In Nh But Many Fear Direct Confrontation With Russia 3/22/2023, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
A majority of New Hampshire residents approve of how President Joe Biden is handling the war in Ukraine, significantly higher than in the summer of 2022. A plurality expect the war in Ukraine to end with a compromise, while a quarter expect Ukraine to take back all of its territory. Although more than two-thirds of Granite Staters are worried about a direct confrontation between Russia and the U.S. in the near future, state residents consider China to be the greatest foreign threat to the United States by far.

Granite Staters Split On Parental Bill Of Rights; Housing Most Important Problem Facing State 3/21/2023, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
New Hampshire residents are divided in supporting proposed “Parental Bill of Rights” legislation. However, most Granite Staters agree with some rights included in the legislation, including the right for parents to consent to all medical treatments for their child, inspection of educational materials, and to know if their child identifies as a different name or gender at school. A slim plurality oppose a separate proposal to ban gender-affirmative care for minors in the state. One-third of Granite Staters say that housing is the most important problem facing the state, an all-time high. Chris Sununu is still viewed positively as governor.

Data Literacy In The Social Sciences: Findings From A Local Study On Teaching With Quantitative Data In Undergraduate Courses, Patricia B. Condon, Eleta Exline, Louise Buckley
Faculty Publications
Objective – The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Library conducted an exploratory study of the pedagogical practices of social science instructors at UNH who teach using quantitative data in undergraduate courses. This study is connected to a suite of parallel studies at other higher education institutions that was designed and coordinated by Ithaka S+R.
The four aims of this study were to explore the ways in which instructors teach and engage undergraduates in the social sciences using quantitative data; understand the support needs of these instructors; develop actionable recommendations for campus stakeholders; and identify opportunities for the development of resources, …

In the same way that doctors conduct an annual check-up to assess our health, we can collect information to assess the civic health of our communities. Civic health includes factors such as how much people trust each other, show up at public meetings, get involved, vote, and help out neighbors.
This seven-part guide is designed to help people at the local level collect data to better understand what factors bring people together or push them apart. This information can help communities to thrive and strengthen democracy at the local level.
The guide includes exercises around mapping the different populations who …

In the summer of 2023, through funding provided by NOAA’s Uncrewed Systems (UxS) Operations Center within the Office of Marine Operations, NOAA acquired a DriX uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) (Exail Inc.). The project is a collaborative effort by NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey and NOAA Fisheries to operationalize the use of uncrewed systems to improve the efficiency of acoustic surveys from NOAA's ships. Sea Acceptance Testing of the vehicle was performed in collaboration with the University of New Hampshire’s Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM) in August 2022. Initial deployment and training of personnel aboard the NOAA Ship Thomas …

Increasing Efficiency Of Nautical Chart Production And Accessibility To Marine Environment Data Through An Open-Science Compilation Workflow, Christos Kastrisios, Noel Dyer, Tamer Nada, Stilianos Contarinis, Jose Cordero
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping
Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) data are essential for safe maritime navigation and have multiple other uses in a wide range of enterprises. Charts are relied upon to be as accurate and as up-to-date as possible by the vessels moving vast amounts of products to global ports each year. However, cartographic generalization processes for updating and creating ENCs are complex and time-consuming. Increasing the efficiency of the chart production workflow has been long sought by the nautical charting community. Toward this effort, approaches must consider intended scale, data quality, various chart features, and perform consistently in different scenarios. Additionally, supporting open-science …
