Massachusetts Households Downbeat About Personal Finances, Mixed Expectations For Ma And Us Businesses 5/24/2024, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Most Massachusetts residents say that they are doing about the same financially as a year ago and anticipate similar finances a year from now, but more say they are worse off than say they are better off. Those who anticipate being worse off most often cite the cost of living as a reason. Bay Staters are largely ambivalent in their feelings about the short-term health of the Massachusetts and national economies.

With the 2024 general election less than six months away, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are statistically tied in New Hampshire. More than one-third of undecided voters would be less likely to vote for Trump if he is convicted in his current court case. Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are mentioned most often as running mates for Trump. Granite Staters generally find it acceptable for those protesting the Gaza conflict to hold strikes or walkouts to protest but find it unacceptable to put up tents, occupy buildings, or state that Israel has no …

Biden Holds Large Lead Over Trump & Kennedy In Ma; Residents Divided About Campus Protests 5/23/2024, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

President Joe Biden holds a commanding lead over former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race in Massachusetts, while Robert F. Kennedy Jr. enjoys support from one in ten likely voters. Voters who do not support Trump think a Trump victory would be a threat to democracy. Most Massachusetts residents believe Trump is guilty of the crimes in his “hush money” case but are not sure he will be convicted. Bay Staters are divided on whether tent encampments on campuses to protest the war in Gaza are acceptable.

However, a majority of Rhode Islanders disapprove of Biden's performance as president, many citing his handling of immigration as a reason they disapprove. Donald Trump is an unpopular figure in Rhode Island and nearly-two thirds believe Trump is guilty in his ”hush money” case. Rhode Islanders generally support protestors on campuses carrying out strikes or walkouts but think it is unacceptable to put up tents, occupy buildings, or state that Israel has no right to exist.

Narrative Analysis In Individuals With Parkinson’S Disease Following Intensive Voice Treatment: Secondary Outcome Variables From A Randomized Controlled Trial, Amy E. Ramage, Kathryn J. Greenslade, Kaila Cote, Jessica N. Lee, Cynthia M. Fox, Angela Halpern, Lorraine O. Ramig May 2024

Communication is often impaired in individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD), typically secondary to sensorimotor deficits impacting voice and speech. Language may also be diminished in PD, particularly for production and comprehension of verbs. Evidence exists that verb processing is influenced by motor system modulation suggesting that verb deficits in PD are underpinned by similarities in the neural representations of actions that span motor and semantic systems. Conversely, subtle differences in cognition in PD may explain difficulty in processing of complex syntactic forms, which increases cognitive demand and is linked to verb use. Here we investigated whether optimizing motor system support …

Faculty Publications

In this work we analyze plasma and magnetic field data provided by the Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter missions to investigate the radial evolution of the heating of Alfvénic slow wind by imbalanced Alfvén-wave (AW) turbulent fluctuations from 0.06 to 1 au. in our analysis we focus on slow solar-wind intervals with highly imbalanced and incompressible turbulence (i.e., magnetic compressibility C B = δ B/B ≤ 0.25, plasma compressibility C n = δ n/n ≤ 0.25, and normalized cross helicity σ c ≥ 0.65). First, we estimate the AW turbulent dissipation rate from the wave energy equation and find …

Executive Gender And Capital Structure: New Evidence From Rebalancing Events, Karolina Krystyniak, Viktoriya Staneva May 2024

Executive Gender And Capital Structure: New Evidence From Rebalancing Events, Karolina Krystyniak, Viktoriya Staneva

Faculty Publications

Existing literature shows that female-led companies exhibit lower leverage compared to their male-led counterparts, a trend frequently attributed to the traditional view of higher risk aversion among women. We explore firms with female CFOs at or close to their optimal leverage and find that their capital structure is no different than that of firms with male CFOs. We argue that female CFOs reveal their true preferences and risk appetite during significant capital structure adjustments and find that their tolerance for risk aligns closely with that of their male counterparts. Our study challenges the conventional narrative by demonstrating that the financing …
