New Hampshire Residents' Perceptions Of Aquaculture Show Opportunities For Education, Anna Maccaroni, Emily Whitmore, Lindsey Williams

In this brief, authors Anna Maccaroni, Emily Whitmore, and Lindsey Williams discuss the results of a June 2024 statewide survey of New Hampshire residents to understand their perceptions of aquaculture. Conducted by the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center on behalf of New Hampshire Sea Grant, participants were asked about their opinion of aquaculture in New Hampshire, how much they have read or heard about aquaculture, whether they are aware of aquaculture activity in New Hampshire, and how frequently they consume seafood products. Research that informs the New Hampshire Aquaculture industry, which has grown significantly over the past few years, and helps the overall associated watershed community to keep Great Bay Estuary healthy is vital. Specific study of green crabs, Carcinus maenas, and their potential effects on oysters, Crassostrea virginica, is important to gain a better understanding of the impact invasive species may have on these ecologically and economically important bivalves. Law Enforcement Agency Practices And Policies For The Investigation Of Child Sex Trafficking: Are Agencies Using Victim-Centered Approaches?, Kimberly J. Mitchell, Jennifer E. O'Brien, Lisa M. Jones, Alli Puchlopek-Adams

Over the past decade, efforts have been made to reform the way in which law enforcement responds to child sex trafficking (CST). Law enforcement agencies are being urged or required to use victim-centered approaches that provide exploited youth with support and services. However, researchers have yet to empirically examine law enforcement’s recognition of CST at the agency-level, their arrest practices, or the services that are being offered to CST victims. We have little information about the utilization and effectiveness of various law enforcement agency policies, practices and training programs related to CST. Modest Changes In Rural Voting Could Have Significant Implications In 2024, Dante Scala, Kenneth M. Johnson

In this brief, authors Dante Scala and Kenneth Johnson estimate how much a slightly better (or worse) performance by the candidates in the rural areas of seven battleground states could influence the outcome of the 2024 election. They focus on partisan polarization along the rural-urban continuum and on the significant decline in support of Democratic Presidential candidates in these states over the past several elections. Rural voters are a modest share of all voters in the battleground states ranging from just 5 percent in Arizona to 26 percent in Wisconsin. How much would a small incremental change of plus or …
