Supplemental Security Income (Ssi) Receipt And Access To Homeownership For People With Disabilities, Megan Henly

People with disabilities disproportionately face barriers to homeownership, many of which are associated with costs. One related, but unexplored barrier to homeownership in the United States (U.S.) is the role of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) policy. SSI is a means-tested federal program in the U.S. that provides monthly income to those who are blind or disabled. Recipients may not own assets totaling more than USD 2000 (or 3000 per married couple). While homes are excluded from this assessment, the strict cap on savings generally means that SSI recipients who do not already own a home when they begin to receive …

How Should Scientists Act? Assessing Public Perceptions Of Scientists And Scientific Practices And Their Implications For Science Communication, Thomas G. Safford, Emily H. Whitmore

Is how science is conducted legitimate? Are scientists trustworthy? Whether the public answers “yes” to these questions is critical for science communicators. We explore how social factors affect public perceptions of the practice of science, and then test how those beliefs relate to views about how scientists engage with the public and policy making. Our results show that political ideology and religiosity affect these views. However, more importantly, respondents’ concerns about the integrity of the scientific process are the strongest predictor of views about scientists’ behavior, providing a focus area for future communication efforts in support of science-based decision making.

The accounting field is evolving quickly with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and BNN is taking on this challenge. This report explores how BNN incorporates AI tools like Microsoft’s CoPilot and Caseware into its operations to streamline audits, enhance efficiency, and ensure compliance. This report will also cover how the industry handles this new technology, but still have a focus on BNN. While AI has brought significant benefits such as reducing costs, speeding up data processing, and moving towards real-time audits, it also presents challenges. Food standards, which are used to signal adherence to sustainability goals or a specific origin, have deep political implications. Standards crafted by retailers, processors, or third-party actors such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) often disempower farmers. Moreover, due to the liberalization and globalization of many food value chains, producer organizations (POs) lost some of their legal privileges and market protections. This paper analyzes how POs in the Global North sought to regain their control over food markets by establishing their own standards. Monitoring Nekton Response To Salt Marsh Restoration In The Great Marsh Estuary, Ma, Alexandria E. Sangermano

Salt marshes are intertidal, vegetated habitats that develop in protected, low energy areas within temperate estuaries. Notably, the North American coast comprises approximately 40% of the world's salt marshes which are valued for their numerous ecosystem services including coastal protection, carbon sequestration, and outdoor recreation. Additionally, salt marshes are vital habitats for estuarine nekton (fish and crustaceans), which rely on creeks, channels, the vegetated marsh, and isolated pools within the marsh surface for reproduction, foraging, and refuge from predators. In New England, the historic practice of salt marsh ditching for agricultural development and mosquito management has resulted in significant changes …

The Nature Of Students' Justifications In Geometry: The Impact Of Using Dynamic Geometry Software, Anek Janjaroon

Mathematical justification is a process that reflects how students demonstrate and accept the truth of mathematical statements. The purpose of this study was to investigate the nature of students’ justifications when allowed to use dynamic geometry software in the justification process. The justifications of 18 preservice teachers in response to two geometric conjectures were analyzed to identify characteristics of justifications based on Harel and Sowder’s (1998) framework of proof schemes. The results inform us of the impact of the dynamic software in students’ justifications and the overall nature of students’ work when they use the software to learn geometric ideas. …
