Vermonters Oppose Trump Executive Orders, Two-Thirds Disapprove Of Overall Performance 2/19/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
President Donald Trump begins his second term with very low job approval ratings in Vermont, and most state residents disapprove of his handling of the economy and foreign policy. Majorities think Elon Musk's role in the administration is inappropriate and disapprove of the creation of DOGE. Vermonters also oppose many of Trump's other executive orders. Most state residents think the country is on the wrong track, but almost all Republicans think the country is headed in the right direction.

Nh Bitterly Divided In Early Days Of Second Trump Term, Republicans Extremely Optimistic On Country's Future 2/19/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
New Hampshire residents are divided about President Donald Trump in the early days of his second term, with higher approval for Trump's handling of the economy than his handling of foreign affairs. Granite Staters are deadlocked over Trump's executive order pausing foreign aid and pausing a ban on TikTok, but oppose eliminating birthright citizenship, withdrawing from the World Health Organization, and renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Granite State Republicans largely support these recent executive orders and are more optimistic about the direction of the country than at any time since 2003.

Republicans In Maine Ecstatic, Democrats Despondent, Over Direction Of Country In Early Days Of Trump Term 2/19/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
President Donald Trump enjoys nearly unanimous approval of his handling of the economy, foreign policy, and his overall job performance among Maine Republicans but Democrats strongly disapprove. Mainers are considerably more likely than before Trump's inauguration to think the country is headed in the right direction, fueled by extremely high optimism among Republicans. Majorities of Mainers oppose Trump's executive orders revising birthright citizenship, withdrawing from the World Health Organization, and renaming the Gulf of Mexico. A majority think Elon Musk's current role in government is inappropriate and a plurality oppose the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Toward Quantifying Interpolation Uncertainty In Set-Line Spacing Hydrographic Surveys, Elias Adediran, Christos Kastrisios, Kim Lowell, Glen Rice, Qi Zhang
Toward Quantifying Interpolation Uncertainty In Set-Line Spacing Hydrographic Surveys, Elias Adediran, Christos Kastrisios, Kim Lowell, Glen Rice, Qi Zhang

The oceans remain one of Earth’s last great unknowns, with about 74% still unmapped to modern standards. Consequently, interpolation is employed to create seamless digital bathymetric models (DBMs) from incomplete hydrographic datasets, but this introduces unquantified depth uncertainties. This study aims to estimate and characterize uncertainties arising from set-line spacing hydrographic surveys, which are important for nautical charting, navigational safety, and many other applications. By sampling at different line spacings four complete coverage testbeds that vary in slope and roughness, the study interpolates across entire testbed areas using Spline, Inverse Distance Weighting, and Linear interpolation. The resulting interpolation uncertainties are …

Biomass burning (BB) affects air quality and climate by releasing large quantities of gaseous and particulate pollutants into the atmosphere. Photochemical processing during daylight transforms these emissions, influencing their overall environmental impact. Accurately quantifying the photochemical drivers, namely actinic flux and photolysis frequencies, is crucial to constraining this chemistry. However, the complex radiative transfer within BB plumes presents a significant challenge for both direct observations and numerical models.
This study introduces an expanded version of the 1D VLIDORT-QS radiative transfer (RT) model, named VLIDORT for photochemistry (VPC). VPC is designed for photochemical and remote sensing applications, particularly in BB plumes …

Preference For Deference: Navigating The Circuit Split On Judicial Deference To The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines Commentary, Rachel Janis
Preference For Deference: Navigating The Circuit Split On Judicial Deference To The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines Commentary, Rachel Janis
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
The United States Sentencing Commission provides commentary to its Guidelines in the form of application notes, background information, and conclusions. Federal judges utilize the United States Sentencing Guidelines and commentary to deliver a sentence that is sufficient but not more than necessary to deter citizens from committing crimes. In 1993, the Supreme Court held in Stinson v. United States that the commentary should be given substantial deference in all cases, including those where the relevant guideline is unambiguous. The Stinson Court reached its opinion after analogizing the Guidelines and commentary with administrative law and an executive agency’s interpretation of its …
Guarding Against Informants In Wrongful Conviction Cases. “The Trust Of The Innocent Is The Liar’S Most Useful Tool.”, Marc Consalo
Guarding Against Informants In Wrongful Conviction Cases. “The Trust Of The Innocent Is The Liar’S Most Useful Tool.”, Marc Consalo
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
By some estimates, tens of thousands of individuals are currently wrongfully convicted and serving time in the United States’ prison system for crimes they did not commit. Further concerning is that one of the most common reasons for these unjust outcomes rests with the use of jailhouse informants who often lie in exchange for time off their own sentences. While many other reasons exist for this epidemic, curtailing corrupt jailhouse snitches in order to reduce the harm they commit against innocent citizens is within our grasp. This Article purports to offer several solutions to reduce and in some cases eliminate …
Public Trials And Plain Error, Krista D. Bordatto, Stephen E. Smith
Public Trials And Plain Error, Krista D. Bordatto, Stephen E. Smith
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
Courts are divided on the question of how Sixth Amendment public trial violations should be evaluated on appeal when a criminal defendant fails to object at trial to a courtroom closure. Typically, failing to object triggers plain error review on appeal, which demands a higher threshold of harm to obtain reversal compared to when an objection has been made at trial. Should this type of review also apply in its usual form to public trial errors? The article concludes that it should, despite the fact that public trial violations are considered “structural,” and, when properly preserved, do not require a …

Vessel Trajectory Data Mining: A Review, Alexandros Troupiotis-Kapeliaris, Christos Kastrisios, Dimitris Zissis
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping
Recent advancements in sensor and tracking technologies have facilitated the real-time tracking of marine vessels as they traverse the oceans. As a result, there is an increasing demand to analyze these datasets to derive insights into vessel movement patterns and to investigate activities occurring within specific spatial and temporal contexts. This survey offers a comprehensive review of contemporary research in trajectory data mining, with a particular focus on maritime applications. The article collects and evaluates state-of-the-art algorithmic approaches and key techniques pertinent to various use case scenarios within this domain. Furthermore, this study provides an in-depth analysis of recent developments …
