A Global Crime Against Women: Sex Trafficking And Its Consequences, Breezy Ferreira Jul 2018

A Global Crime Against Women: Sex Trafficking And Its Consequences, Breezy Ferreira

Perspectives

Sex trafficking, a form of gender-based violence in which a specific gender is the target of violence due to the imbalance of power, is a common present-day global crime (Murturi 2006:83). Women are most often victims of this specific crime, (Muturi 2006:83) and it leaves many workers and victims with health implications such as obtaining HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (Macias Konstantopoulos et al. 2013:1194). This paper will begin by giving a brief overview of the definition of sex trafficking, before discussing a specific country’s challenge with the problem. I will then analyze the scope of this issue based …

Drinking Behaviors And Health In Old Age, Kaleigh Knapp May 2018

Drinking Behaviors And Health In Old Age, Kaleigh Knapp

Master's Theses and Capstones

Alcohol abuse among the elderly population is rapidly becoming a widespread public health concern. As it goes undetected and undiagnosed in many within this age cohort, there is an increased need to further examine the effects of alcohol consumption on physical and mental health. This study investigated how and to what extent drinking behaviors affect physical and mental health in older people. Data came from the 2012 and 2014 Health and Retirement study, a nationally representative survey of Americans aged 51 and older. Our sample was restricted to people who participated in both waves of the survey from 2012 and …

Burned Out Or Trapped In Conscientiousness: A Case Study Of Three Nh Middle School Teachers, Shaleen Cassily Apr 2018

Burned Out Or Trapped In Conscientiousness: A Case Study Of Three Nh Middle School Teachers, Shaleen Cassily

Doctoral Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to explore the nature of teachers’ experiences of burnout and teacher self-efficacy, and the relationship between these two constructs. Although the research has demonstrated a well-established relationship between burnout and teacher self-efficacy, the exact dynamic between these two constructs is open to debate (Skaalvik & Skaalvik, 2010). Additionally, most of the existing research around burnout and teacher self-efficacy is quantitative. Therefore, this study investigated these two constructs qualitatively in order to gain a deeper understanding of the way teachers construct meaning about their experiences of burnout and how they feel, think, and explain their …

Changing Attitudes: The Impact Of A Disability Awareness Class, Christine Ann Masci Jan 2018

Changing Attitudes: The Impact Of A Disability Awareness Class, Christine Ann Masci

Honors Theses and Capstones

Attitudes towards people with disabilities can be either positive or negative. A undergraduate college course about disability awareness followed a structure focusing on awareness, interaction with PWD, and education in order to make a positive impact on attitudes. The study compared the disability awareness class to a general education humanities class. While results indicated that there was not a significant change in pre and post scores when comparing the classes, there was a significant change in the disability awareness class upon further analysis of data. There are additional suggestions to further the impact of the class within the disability awareness …
