Loose Lips Required . . . And Appreciated: In Support Of Title Ix's Mandatory Reporting Requirements For Professors In Undergraduate And Graduate Education, Stacy Scaldo
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
In an attempt to comply with the past decade’s changing Title IX policies, a growing number of institutions have adopted policies requiring faculty members to report perceived sexual misconduct to designated administrators. These administrative decisions have come with mixed reviews. While Title IX scholars and trainers have by and large welcomed increased reporting requirements, faculty members have vocally criticized these mandates as destructive to the professor–student relationship and claimed unintended negative consequences of these policies. The “can I tell you something?” conversation is an all-too-common occurrence in the relationship between a student and his or her professor. While the nature …

(Trade)Mark America Great Again: Should Political Slogans Be Able To Receive Trademark Protection?, Katherine Kerrick
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
In late 2016, Donald Trump was granted trademark protection for his presidential campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” This registration is one of few—if not the only—political slogans registered as a trademark with the USPTO. Four years later, and four years after the completion of the presidential campaign which effectuated the slogan, the MAGA registration is still live and President Trump and his campaign committee continue to sell merchandise featuring the slogan prominently. However, looking at the applications and the evidence presented therein, it is not clear that the MAGA slogan constitutes a phrase worthy of trademark protection. This Note …

Economic Optimism High Among Granite Staters 3/4/2020, Unh Survey Center
Economic Optimism High Among Granite Staters 3/4/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Optimism about business conditions in New Hampshire remains high and nearly half of residents foresee continuous good times for the national economy over the next five years, the highest percentage to say so since 2004. However, much of the positivity concerning the national economy and household finances is driven by record or near high optimism among Republicans, as Independents and Democrats are more sanguine. These findings are based on interviews conducted largely prior to the increased number of cases of coronavirus in the United States and its effect on the U.S. economy and markets.

Uses Unaddressed: How Social Technologies Tacitly Allow Gender-Based Violence, Brooke Marston
Comm-entary
Growing technological capabilities have enhanced and intensified the potential for surveillance in many areas of life. Particularly, the placement of advanced technology in the hands of everyday people has produced ample opportunities for interpersonal monitoring. This growing capacity to surveil others we know without sophisticated techniques has concerning implications for acts of gender-based violence and intimate partner violence, which often hinge on surveillance, isolation, and control. Often, technology is used to the advantage of abusers in achieving such ends, and the wealth of personal information that is often available online leaves users vulnerable to acts of gender-based violence such as …

Are New Hampshire’S Winters Warming? Yes, But Fewer Than Half Of State Residents Recognize The Trend, Lawrence C. Hamilton, Elizabeth Burakowski
Carsey Publications
In this brief, authors Elizabeth Burakowski and Lawrence Hamilton review some basic evidence about winter warming in New Hampshire, explore to what extent state residents are aware of this trend, and ask who is aware, in terms of characteristics such as age, education, or participation in winter sports. Results from two statewide surveys find limited awareness of the trend overall, and no significant differences by age, education, or winter sports participation. Instead, perceptions of this winter trend depend on political identity: conservatives are much less likely than other groups to recognize that warming has occurred.
