Covid-19 Hits Consumer Confidence In Nh 5/26/2020, Unh Survey Center
Covid-19 Hits Consumer Confidence In Nh 5/26/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Pessimism about business conditions in New Hampshire and the country as a whole has increased since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, most New Hampshire residents continue to rate their personal finances the same or better than a year ago and anticipate their finances will be better or the same a year from now. Optimism about the economy has fallen among New Hampshire Republicans and Democrats: optimism among Republicans is similar to what it was during the Obama administration while optimism among Democrats is at record lows.

All UNH Survey Center Polls
Confidence among New Hampshire residents in the federal government's ability to respond effectively to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has declined since April. Trust in science agencies, such as the CDC, as a source of information on the outbreak has also declined since April. A majority continue to disapprove of President Trump's handling of the coronavirus situation and nearly half of the state strongly disapproves.

Majority In Nh Continue To Prioritize "Stay At Home"; Many Not Yet Comfortable Going To Public Places 5/20/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
A majority of New Hampshire residents continue to prioritize following the Governor's "stay at home" order over re-opening the economy. Granite Staters are comfortable going to a golf course, going to a drive-in movie theater, or having a "time-sensitive" hospital procedure. However, far fewer feel comfortable eating inside a restaurant, going to a gym or health club, or going to a movie theater. Republicans are far more comfortable with going to businesses and public places than Democrats. Concern about a family member or oneself contracting COVID-19 has declined since April but nearly two-thirds remain worried about it.

All UNH Survey Center Polls
New Hampshire residents generally support Governor Chris Sununu's plan to re-open the New Hampshire economy in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. However, support for "Stay at Home 2.0" is more tepid than support for Sununu's original stay at home order and there are significant differences based on partisanship concerning which industries and public places should be allowed to be open. Large majorities of Democrats and Republicans approve of how Governor Sununu is handling the COVID-19 situation in New Hampshire.

Granite Staters Continue To Prioritize Social Distancing, But Perceived Importance Of Restarting Economy Grows 5/11/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
A majority of New Hampshire residents continue to believe that maintaining social distancing practices is more important than restarting the economy, but a growing number of people consider both to be important. Nearly all groups in the state consider restarting the economy to be more important than they did in early April, but significant differences remain based on gender, partisanship, and media consumption. More than a third of NH workers have lost a job or had their hours reduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely unchanged since early April, but measures of stress concerning employment and the economy …

Law Faculty Scholarship
A worldwide pandemic is forcing schools to close their doors. Yet the need to teach students remains. How can faculty – especially those who are not trained in technology-mediated teaching – maintain educational continuity? This Essay provides some suggestions and relatively quick and easy strategies for distance education in this time of coronavirus. While it is written from the perspective of teaching law school, it can be applied to teaching other humanities such as philosophy, literature, religion, political theory, and other subjects that do not easily lend themselves to charts, graphs, figures, and diagrams. This Essay includes an introductory technology …

Distribution And Fate Of Per- And Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (Pfas) In Wastewater Treatment Plants Discharging To Great Bay, Elham Tavasoli
Master's Theses and Capstones
Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) represent a major class of emerging contaminants composed of nearly 5000 human-made chemicals. PFAS have been used since the 1950s as surfactants in industrial and consumer products due to their unique water and oil repellency, high surface activity, and thermostability. These compounds can bioaccumulate and pose human and ecological health concerns; for example, PFAS intensive exposure can affect the liver, reproduction and development in humans and wildlife. Ubiquitous presence of these compounds in different environmental matrices, high persistency, and potential threats to human and environmental health, have made it critical to develop an understanding of how …

The Application Of Computer Vision, Machine And Deep Learning Algorithms Utilizing Matlab, Andrea Linda Murphy
Master's Theses and Capstones
MATLAB is a multi-paradigm proprietary programming language and numerical computing environment developed by MathWorks. Within MATLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) you can perform Computer-aided design (CAD), different matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and has the ability to interface with programs written in other languages1. Since, its launch in 1984 MATLAB software has not particularly been associated within the field of data science. In 2013, that changed with the launch of their new data science concentrated toolboxes that included Deep Learning, Image Processing, Computer Vision, and then a year later Statistics and Machine …
Bullying Trends In The United States And An Analysis Of The Impact Of Prevention Programs On Bullying Subtypes And Gender, Reeve Kennedy
Bullying Trends In The United States And An Analysis Of The Impact Of Prevention Programs On Bullying Subtypes And Gender, Reeve Kennedy
Doctoral Dissertations
This three-article dissertation presents three standalone articles that address bullying trends over time within the United States (US), gaps in bullying prevention program outcomes (both within the US and internationally), and the role of study and methodological features on the findings. The first article used meta-regression to establish trends in different types of bullying involvement from 1998 to 2017, identified factors that help explain variation in bullying trends, and determined differences in those trends by gender and grade. The second article used meta-analysis to examine the effectiveness of bullying prevention programs on three subtypes of traditional bullying victimization: physical, relational, …
Novel Topologies In Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: A Study Of Triangulenes And Other Molecular Shapes, Carter James Holt
Novel Topologies In Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: A Study Of Triangulenes And Other Molecular Shapes, Carter James Holt
Doctoral Dissertations
Triangulenes are the homologous series of triangle-shaped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, first contemplated by chemists nearly 100 years ago. Computational models predict that triangulenes will be polyradicals, with high-spin electronic ground states. Recent technological advances have allowed the molecular-scale synthesis and on-surface characterization of the first three members of this series using atomic force microscopy techniques. In this work, a short and scalable synthesis of the [3]triangulene ring system was developed. Cascade cyclization of a tetra-benzyl alcohol precursor in trifluoromethanesulfonic acid solution gave the planar and three-fold symmetrical 4,8,12-trihydro[3]triangulenium carbocation. This new species has been characterized by NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) …
The Impact Of Fine Scale Drivers On Upwelling Processes, David Kenward
The Impact Of Fine Scale Drivers On Upwelling Processes, David Kenward
Doctoral Dissertations
Ionospheric upwelling and outflow are large-scale processes which affect the dynamics of the greater magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere system. Though these terms historically refer to the propensity of ions to increase in scale height and escape Earth's gravity due to a the collective effect of energization processes; that same behaviour is frequently observed to occur with neutral species within the cusp regions of the ionosphere. Although many different driving mechanisms have been identified which contribute to the energization and increase in scale height of the ionosphere, the relative energy budget of these individual drivers is debated. In this dissertation, data from the Rocket …
Fear And Loathing In Post 9/11 America: Public Perceptions Of Terrorism As Shaped By News Media And The Politics Of Fear, Reinmar Cristobal Freis-Beattie
Fear And Loathing In Post 9/11 America: Public Perceptions Of Terrorism As Shaped By News Media And The Politics Of Fear, Reinmar Cristobal Freis-Beattie
Doctoral Dissertations
The politics of fear have deeply divided the United States of America. Decades of propaganda portray Muslims as a terrorist threat to the dominant US culture and society. The War on Terror and its consequences, including the rise of ISIL and the 2015 Syrian refugee crisis, resulted in the destabilization of democracy in both the US and Europe. I argue that the US public’s fear of terrorism is not just a fear of violence but instead reflects racial tensions and anxieties in a rapidly changing world. These tensions and anxieties are fueled by media coverage leveraging a general fear and …

Goodbye And Thanks For All The Fish: The Inevitable Mass Extinction Of Vertebrate Wildlife In The United States By 2100 Ad, Richard Maximus Strahan
Master's Theses and Capstones
The last stages of a global mass extinction event (GME) that started in the Pleistocene is likely to be continuing across the nations of the Earth. In the United States (“Nation”), it will likely climax (“Climax”) by 2100 AD when it will wipe out about 80% of endemic, vertebrate wildlife species. It will reduce the populations and ranges of the Nation’s surviving vertebrate species to minimal values. This will be the 6th such mass extinction of wildlife species to have occurred in the Earth’s history.
This is a reasonable inference from available data reported in journal articles since 1990 on …
Profiling Of Hydraulic Conductivity Using A Permeafor, Steven Louis Wuebbolt
Profiling Of Hydraulic Conductivity Using A Permeafor, Steven Louis Wuebbolt
Master's Theses and Capstones
Currently, most Departments of Transportation, including the NHDOT, use borehole infiltration testing to characterize the hydraulic conductivity of soils for the design of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP’s). The test essentially replicates the laboratory constant or falling head experiment except that it is conducted in a borehole. These field measurements are then used to estimate hydraulic conductivity using methods published in the 1950s by Hvorslev which lack rigorous analysis and depend on numerous assumptions. Tests are also time consuming and their punctual nature requires testing at several locations and depths to obtain reliable values of permeability.
A proposed solution is …
Hampton Court Palace: Henry Viii's Cabinet Of Curiosity Exhibiting The Abraham Tapestries, Lindsay Brooke Gross
Hampton Court Palace: Henry Viii's Cabinet Of Curiosity Exhibiting The Abraham Tapestries, Lindsay Brooke Gross
Master's Theses and Capstones
This thesis evaluates Hampton Court Palace as King Henry VIII’s cabinet of curiosity while looking at the Christian symbolism Henry associated with the Abraham Tapestries. Henry VIII was an avid collector, as shown in the 1547 Inventory that was completed 18 months after he died. The inventory recorded 2,450 tapestries, with one of the most important sets from that list being the Abraham Tapestries, which depict the relationship God had to Abraham and his son Isaac. Henry had a strong connection to the Abraham tapestries because of their Christian symbolism. Henry viewed himself as an Abraham to his people and …
Competing Americas: Letters To The Fcc On Father Charles Coughlin, Alyssa Roy
Competing Americas: Letters To The Fcc On Father Charles Coughlin, Alyssa Roy
Master's Theses and Capstones
On November 20, 1938, Father Charles Coughlin—colloquially known as the Radio Priest—gave a speech over the radio in which, among other things, he blamed the Jewish victims of Kristallnacht for their own suffering. This speech sparked a storm of protest and counterprotest, exemplified by more than one thousand letters sent to the Federal Communications Commission from 1938 to 1939. Americans on both sides of the controversy wrote to the FCC to express their approval or disapproval of Coughlin’s program, and to call on the agency to act in some way. In reacting to Coughlin, these Americans spoke to larger conversations …
