Providing Clean Energy Solutions To India’S Bottom Of The Pyramid Population, Jill Howard, Fiona Wilson, E. Hachemi Aliouche

Despite a scheme launched by the Indian government in 2017 that has declared achieving close to 100 percent electrification in the country, studies have shown that only 65 percent of rural enterprises in India report having electricity grid connection. While millions of households have been positively impacted by access to electricity, small businesses and smallholder farmers (those with holdings of less than 2 acres) in rural India have been left out of the equation or receive very unreliable power supply. Byproducts of the energy poverty experienced by India’s Bottom of the Pyramid population include an enormous carbon footprint produced by …

Climate change is a complex phenomenon, so much so that even those with expert knowledge on the scientific data struggle to understand the impacts of climate change on their everyday lives. Contradictions across systems of knowledge make clear that climate change is not just a problem of scientific understanding but is also simultaneously a problem of global coordination as well as a sociopolitical problem of connecting domains of knowledge that are seldom valued equitably. The project described in this paper is a prototype effort to put knowledge from community members in two culturally distinct rural areas of the world at …

Majority In Nh Plan To Get Covid-19 Vaccine When Available 12/14/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
A majority of New Hampshire residents say they will get a COVID-19 vaccine when one is available, however, some groups remain unwilling to get a vaccine. Respondents most frequently cite their PCP, Dr. Fauci, New Hampshire epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan, or their friends and family as people whose endorsement would make them more likely to get vaccinated. Those who are currently unwilling to get vaccinated say they are not likely to be convinced to do so by anyone. Republicans and Democrats disagree about the pandemic as a majority of Republicans believe the danger posed by COVID-19 is exaggerated and has …

Trump's Job Approval & Handling Of Covid-19 Unchanged In Nh 12/3/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Granite Staters' assessment of President Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic is unchanged despite a spike in COVID-19 cases in New Hampshire and the country at large. Stress related to COVID-19 has increased since October among Granite Staters, particularly among men and older residents. Trump's loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election has had little impact on approval of his job performance or the overall direction of the country.

Sununu's Nh Job Approval Remains High; Handling Of Covid-19 Falls 12/2/2020, Unh Survey Center

Approval of newly re-elected governor Chris Sununu remains high in New Hampshire. However, approval of his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has dropped, particularly among Republicans and Independents, though seven in ten Granite Staters continue to approve. Almost half of New Hampshire residents think that COVID-19 is the most important problem facing the state.
Geodermatophilaceae Biofilm Formation And Rock Recolonization, Krista Greengrass
Geodermatophilaceae Biofilm Formation And Rock Recolonization, Krista Greengrass
Master's Theses and Capstones
The Geodermatophilaceae genera—Geodermatophilus, Blastococcus, and Modestobacter—live on rock surfaces and create biofilms that deteriorate stone architecture and monuments. Their biofilms increase the rate of weathering and erosion but are not well studied. Recently, thirteen strains were isolated, and their genomes sequenced. These new Geodermatophilaceae isolates along with Modestobacter marinus strain BC501 and Blastococcus saxobsidens strain DD2 were used in this study to evaluate biofilm formation under different environmental factors including temperature, light, and salt and heavy metal exposure. Ten isolates were used for experiments to recolonize back onto the rock substrates from which the isolates were obtained. For most of …
Infiltration Analysis Of Calibrated Stormwater Models In Swmm, Anna Laura Alegria Silveira
Infiltration Analysis Of Calibrated Stormwater Models In Swmm, Anna Laura Alegria Silveira
Master's Theses and Capstones
This research project analyzes the hydrology of two Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) systems located at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) campus in Durham, NH, and compares field data to modeling results of a calibrated Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) model of each system. The studied systems were a Philadelphia Tree Trench and an Infiltration Trench, located in Parking Lot A and Parking Lot E, respectively. The Stormwater Center at UNH monitored the system wells, precipitation, and collected data since system constructions, to analyze the infiltration behavior. The fundamental reason for this research is that the SWMM model only computes infiltration …
Investigation Of Stormwater Bmp Water Quality Performance Characteristics With Respect To Storm Event Variables And Influent Event Mean Concentrations, Samuel James Lanternier
Investigation Of Stormwater Bmp Water Quality Performance Characteristics With Respect To Storm Event Variables And Influent Event Mean Concentrations, Samuel James Lanternier
Master's Theses and Capstones
Stormwater is known to be a major source of water pollution. In addition to increased flows resulting from increased impervious area in watersheds, stormwater is known to carry pollutants such a suspended solids, hydrocarbons, and nutrients into receiving water bodies. Because of this, stormwater treatment systems, referred to as ‘best management practices’ (BMPs), are utilized to dampen peak flows, reduce total runoff volume, and remove pollutants. While many studies have investigated the effectiveness of various BMPs in the removal of pollutants, fewer studies have investigated the effects of numerous storm variables on the effectiveness of treatment systems. This thesis investigates …

In A Nutshell: Nutritional And Environmental Factors Impacting Small Mammal Seed Selection In Northeastern Forests, Nicholas Bryan Moore
Master's Theses and Capstones
Rodents often play vital roles in their ecosystems as seed predators and dispersers and can significantly influence the succession and assembly of plant communities. We conducted seed tray experiments to assess the nutritional and environmental factors that influence selection and foraging time of three common rodent granivores: the white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus), the deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus), and the southern red-backed vole (Myodes gapperi) for three common seeds: American beech (Fagus grandifolia), red maple (Acer rubrum), and eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis). This work was conducted at Bartlett Experimental Forest located within White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. Using mixed-effects …

Nh Trump Voters Say He Won Election; Two-Thirds Of Nh Republicans Want Trump To Run In 2024 11/24/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Nearly two-thirds of New Hampshire residents believe Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. However, more than half of Donald Trump voters believe that Trump won the election and two-thirds of Republicans want Trump to run for President in 2024. Most Republicans think that voter fraud is a very serious problem in the U.S. and Trump voters are less likely to be confident that their vote was accurately counted. Nearly all 2020 voters say it was easy to vote and a slight majority would support "no excuse" absentee voting being available for future elections.

Home For The Holidays: Most Nh Residents Won't Travel Or Host For Holidays 11/24/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Most New Hampshire residents will celebrate Thanksgiving with only their own household. Granite Staters have similar plans for the upcoming holiday season, but relatively few are experiencing a significant amount of stress about the holidays. A troubling sign for local retailers is that very few expect to do most of their holiday shopping in-person. Among the three-quarters who plan to put up a Christmas tree, a slight majority plan to have an artificial tree. Real trees have become less popular among Granite Staters since 2001.
