Improvements in air quality and Earth's climate predictions require improvements of the aerosol speciation in chemical transport models, using observational constraints. Aerosol speciation (e.g., organic aerosols, black carbon, sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, dust or sea salt) is typically determined using in situ instrumentation. Continuous, routine aerosol composition measurements from ground-based networks are not uniformly widespread over the globe. Satellites, on the other hand, can provide a maximum coverage of the horizontal and vertical atmosphere but observe aerosol optical properties (and not aerosol speciation) based on remote sensing instrumentation. Combinations of satellite-derived aerosol optical properties can inform on air mass aerosol types …

The EMERGE Institute, a NSF-funded Biology Integration Institute, consists of over ninety participants at varying career stages and disciplines from universities around the globe. The central aim of EMERGE is to investigate the EMergent Ecosystem Response to ChanGE in the model peatland ecosystem Stordalen Mire, located in subarctic Sweden using a broad sweep of scientific sampling and analytical techniques. EMERGE uses a multi-pronged approach to foster an inclusive transdisciplinary research environment for all EMERGE participants through mentorship and training.

Annual fieldwork campaigns to Stordalen Mire, a semi-remote field site in northern Sweden, are an …

Most Granite Staters Protected Against Covid-19 By Vaccine Or Recent Infection 3/1/2022, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Reported COVID-19 cases among Granite Staters have fallen abruptly since January. Currently, one-quarter say they have tested positive for COVID since the pandemic began. Six in ten adults say they are vaccinated and boosted, another 17% are vaccinated but not boosted, and 22% are not vaccinated at all. Overall, seven in eight Granite Staters likely have some protection against COVID-19 through vaccination or recent infection. Virtually no unvaccinated adults plan to get vaccinated, most frequently citing a lack of belief in the vaccine's effectiveness. Only four in ten children in the state aged 5-17 are vaccinated against COVID-19 and almost …
