Electricity In The Brain: Exploring Research Methods In Neuroscience, Vladimir Tkachev Apr 2022

Electricity In The Brain: Exploring Research Methods In Neuroscience, Vladimir Tkachev

Inquiry Journal Spring 2022

Every person at some point in their life wonders how exactly their brains work to create their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Neuroscience is the field that deals with studying the biological and chemical processes underlying our brain’s operations. In this commentary, I give an overview of my experience learning the most commonly used research technique in neuroscience: electrophysiological recording. I had to learn this technique in preparation for my summer 2021 research project that dealt with a novel recording sensor for the neurotransmitter glutamate, and I hope to share the knowledge I gained with the readers of this journal. I …

Work-Life Balance, Aimee Lee Apr 2022

Work-Life Balance, Aimee Lee

M.S. in Leadership

This project was to identify if there is a work-life balance in the banking industry, and how managers understand the concept. Six managers of different demographics were surveyed and the results show three important themes; that the leaders need to have great knowledge of the work and their employees, that home issues and work issues need to be separate and balanced, and that excellent communication is required of both the leaders and the employees so that everyone can advocate successfully for their needs, and the needs of the corporation. The results will be shared with the Human Resources Department to …

Conducting Undergraduate Research To Honor The Voices Of Sexual And Gender Minority People Receiving Inpatient Mental Health Care, Jaylyn Jewel

Inquiry Journal Spring 2022

Nursing is an art and a science, depicted by intimate care of patients physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It is the nurse’s role to advocate for the patient and assure that they receive the best care possible. There are many disparities present in healthcare, and as an aspiring nurse, it is important that I am aware of these inequalities. Sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients face many disparities, especially in the realm of mental health. These disparities have been attributed to the stigma SGM people experience related to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity and may bring about a higher observance …

Bridging The Gap Between Science And Society To Foster A Greater Understanding Of The Climate Crisis, Jessica Gray Apr 2022

Bridging The Gap Between Science And Society To Foster A Greater Understanding Of The Climate Crisis, Jessica Gray

Inquiry Journal Spring 2022

Born and raised on the East Coast, I have had the luxury of spending time patrolling the shoreline of the Gulf of Maine for the past two decades. As a member of a coastal Maine community, it was never a question that I wanted to dedicate my career to marine research, working to ensure society sustains the integrity and stability of our global oceans. After acquiring diverse experience within the realm of oceanography, I have continuously centered my work around a single focal point: climate change is beginning to alter ecosystems to a point where resources are becoming severely impacted. …

Paralegal Training In New Hampshire, Donald Shedd Apr 2022

Paralegal Training In New Hampshire, Donald Shedd

M.S. in Leadership

The purpose of this research is to examine the possibility of developing and implementing a post-hire, on-the-job training program for entry level paralegals in the State of New Hampshire. According to the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), New Hampshire has no formal education or training requirements for paralegals. However, in recent years, states such as Washington, Utah, New York, and California have implemented specialized programs and training opportunities for non-lawyer legal professionals, namely paralegals. This research surveyed current working paralegals on their experiences regarding their own training (if any) and their insights into what components they believe should be …
