A Good Life In Old Age: Accommodating Elderly Patients' Values And Motivations In The Thai Healthcare System, Jennie Lynn Marinucci
A Good Life In Old Age: Accommodating Elderly Patients' Values And Motivations In The Thai Healthcare System, Jennie Lynn Marinucci
Inquiry Journal 2016
People over age sixty-five are the fastest growing segment of the population in most developed and developing nations and their healthcare problems are placing strains on healthcare systems. An added complication for healthcare providers is that elderly populations carry with them a variety of culturally-specific views surrounding the aging process, so it's hard to standardize care for the elderly globally, and also within individual countries. Addressing cultural difference in gerontology policy and practice therefore requires defining "aging well" or "a good life in old age" in the eyes of the elderly. This study used Thailand's healthcare system as a model …
The Defining Characteristics Of The Buurtzorg Nederland Model Of Home Care From The Perspective Of Buurtzorg Nurses, Colleen White
The Defining Characteristics Of The Buurtzorg Nederland Model Of Home Care From The Perspective Of Buurtzorg Nurses, Colleen White
Inquiry Journal 2016
In the summer of 2015, I spent nine weeks in the Netherlands conducting qualitative research on the Buurtzorg model, an award-winning home healthcare organization, whose name translates to “neighborhood care.” I focused my research on the Buurtzorg nurses’ perspectives on the characteristics of the model. I conducted informal interviews with seventeen nurses, accompanied more on their home visits, and attended team meetings in several cities and towns. I also visited the headquarters of Buurtzorg in Almelo, where I spoke with Jos de Blok, the co-founder of the Buurtzorg model. In my collected data, I found four common themes in how …
Using Geographic Information Science To Map The Flight Of The Regicides In Seventeenth- Century New England, Steven Cowley
Using Geographic Information Science To Map The Flight Of The Regicides In Seventeenth- Century New England, Steven Cowley
Inquiry Journal 2016
In mid-seventeenth century two of the judges who condemned King Charles I of England to death became regicide fugitives when his son came to the throne as Charles II. The two men fled to New England and eluded their Royalist pursuers for twenty years. I am attempting to track their travels and hideouts through standard historical research and, more recently, the use of Geographic Information Science (GIS), a form of digital mapping technology which organizes information in a geographical format by adding spatial coordinates to existing data to form a geodatabase. This article describes the application of GIS to test …

Extending The Institutional Repository To Include Undergraduate Research, Eleta Exline
University Library Scholarship
While a primary strategy of scholarly communication initiatives has been to encourage faculty participation in institutional repositories (IRs), with some process and workflow customization, IR participation can be successfully extended to undergraduate students, with benefits to both the student and institution. Drawing observations from the University of New Hampshire Library's work collecting undergraduate honors theses and other student research, this article discusses customization strategies for creating an effective workflow for student self-deposit using an iterative, feedback-based approach, and the benefits, challenges, and potential concerns of encouraging undergraduate participation in institutional repositories.

Obama Remains Unpopular In Granite State 3/4/16, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
President Barack Obama’s job approval and personal favorability rating have remained steady but relatively low in New Hampshire. However, his job approval is considerably better than George W. Bush’s at this point in his second term. Most Granite Staters feel ISIS poses a very serious threat to the United States, but do not believe it is a serious threat to New Hampshire. A majority of New Hampshire residents continue to think the country is headed in the wrong direction.

The Riddle Of Harmless Error Revisited, John M. Greabe
The Riddle Of Harmless Error Revisited, John M. Greabe
Law Faculty Scholarship
Half a century ago, in Chapman v. California, the Supreme Court imposed on appellate courts an obligation to vacate or reverse criminal judgments marred by constitutional error unless the government demonstrates that the error was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt. But the Court did not explain the juridical status of this obligation or its relation to the federal harmless-error statute, 28 U.S.C. § 2111. In the intervening years, commentators have struggled to make sense of Chapman. Some see it as a constitutional mandate. Others view it as an example of constitutional common law. In THE RIDDLE OF HARMLESS ERROR, written …

Half of Granite Staters approve of the job that outgoing governor Maggie Hassan is doing. Drug abuse continues to be seen as the state’s most important problem and about half of Granite Staters say they know someone who has abused heroin. The majority of New Hampshire residents continue to support legalizing marijuana for recreational use, and a larger majority favor universal background checks on gun purchases. A plurality of New Hampshire residents support a bill to establish a 30 day residency requirement in order to vote in a state election.

Vermont senator and New Hampshire Primary Winner Bernie Sanders currently holds leads over four potential Republican challengers in New Hampshire. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads Ted Cruz, is in statistical ties with Donald Trump and Marco Rubio, and trails John Kasich in hypothetical matchups. Unsurprisingly, most Granite Staters have not decided who they will vote for in the November general election. Election: 2016
