Every major city in the United States projects an image of some sort or another. These images are of varying types, and are constantly changing. From these images the American public produces a concept that ultimately stands as an identifying mark. Popular images develop from a variety of factors, such as legends, stories, and pictures, and are transmitted through newspapers, journals, television, movies, and/or magazines.

Uden, Holland: A Study Of Community And Social Process, Charles F. Van Rossum
Student Work
Throughout the history of mankind, individuals and all kinds of groups have existed together in localities. We refer to such combinations of individuals and groups as communities. As social units, communities are the focus for study by social scientists of various disciplines. The study of human interaction in the natural laboratory of a community is accomplished by use of the community study method. In this thesis, a case study of the town of Uden, Holland, is presented as an example of how members interacted with one another to foster the continuity of their community. The Relationship Between Risk And The Respondent's Level Of Socialization In The Military, Robert E. Wetzel
The Relationship Between Risk And The Respondent's Level Of Socialization In The Military, Robert E. Wetzel
Student Work
The following thesis deals with a sensitive issue, namely the examination of risk-taking behaviors in a military context. Generally, it is agreed that certain decisions made by the military are considerably more vast and important (in terms of the sociopolitical, and moral ramifications) than decisions reached by non-military groups. In light of this agreement, any analysis of risk-taking behavior could be interpreted as threatening to the image of the military. Understanding the sensitivity of the central theme of the following thesis demands an understanding of the assumptions of the investigation. The two major assumptions of this work are: a) the …

Intergenerational School Projects: Examples And Guidelines, James P. Firman, Anita M. Stowell
Intergenerational
The residential, educational, and recreational patterns of modern American society tend to isolate the young from the old. Because there is little interaction between the age groups, each generation tends to stereotype the other. Educators must realize that these age-related stereotypes affect our interpersonal relationships, our self-images, and, consequently, our potential to live a full, rewarding life.

The successful delivery of human services requires rational program planning. Rational program planning, in turn, requires evaluation of 1) the needs of targeted client groups, 2) the availability of established services to the potential clients, and 3) the utilization of available services by the client population(s). The success of human service delivery systems, therefore, must incorporate the assessment of public programs in terms of the correspondence between client needs and service provision and usage.

IN MOST AMERICAN CITIES during the first half of the twentieth century, the distance between worksite and residence tended to increase. This was due to improvements in transportation corridors, advances in real income, and availability of the automobile to the middle income class which correlated with the purchase of new homes in the suburbs. Traditionally, the journey to work took the labor force to areas in or near the central business district of the city. In the recent past, however, the movement away from these centers by industry, retail establishments, offices, and other users of downtown space has led to …
