Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

1. The nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus content of 127 newly hatched chicks was determined. 2. Thirty newly hatched chicks were fed accurately known amounts of a good chick mash for 60 days. At the end of the period nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, and fat were determined for each chick. 3. Nineteen samples of margarine were obtained from Illinois, Ohio and Nebraska. They were analyzed chemically and the vitamin A content of each one was compared with that of either sour-cream or sweet-cream butter. The fat content of the butter samples varied from 80.2 to 81.5 per cent, while the fat content of the margarine samples varied from 78 .3 to 89.2 per cent. From the results it was evident that these samples of margarine were very poor sources of vitamin A when compared with butter. Introduction

Trematodes are parasitic, unsegmented, flattened (rarely cylindrical) worms. They have ventral, anterior, posterior or median attachment organs. The sense organs are poorly developed. The mouth is terminal or ventral and subterminal. The intestine is usually forked with or without lateral branches. The animals, with few exceptions, are hermaphroditic. The ovary is usually single. They have one, two, or more testes. The development is direct with only one host in the ectoparasitic Monogenea and indirect in the Digenea which have two or more hosts. The digenetic trematodes usually parasitize vertebrates which serve as their primary hosts and invertebrates (Mollusca) which …

How to secure just and equitable estimates of the value of farm land as a basis for taxation has always been a vexatious problem. The existing assessment law in Nebraska went into effect April 1, 1921. The present study attempts to show how the assessed valuations of farm real estate made under that law compare with the actual sales value of the farms sold during the 13 years ending March 31, 1934. The data used in this study include records of 35,753 tracts of farm land in 93 Nebraska counties sold during the 13 years ending March 31, 1934.

This study of farm families in selected districts of Nebraska was undertaken in order to obtain information regarding the total money value of family living and the proportion of the total used for each of the principal groups of goods. A further purpose was to measure the adequacy of the living provided. The study was begun in January, 1931, and continued through the year 1933. The districts selected included Cass and Fillmore counties throughout the three-year period, and to these Buffalo county was added at the beginning of 1932.

RESIDENTS within an area of 50,000 to 75,000 square miles in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas were awakened by mild but distinct earth tremors at 5:00 and 5:03 A.M. on March 1. No damage of any importance has been reported. Two distinct tremors occurred, each lasting about 10 seconds, about 3 minutes apart.
