Test 297: Mccormick-Deering Farmall Model F-14, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Orthogonal Polynomials With Orthogonal Derivatives, M. S. Webster Jan 1938

Orthogonal Polynomials With Orthogonal Derivatives, M. S. Webster

Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications

We are concerned with the following assertion:
THEOREM. If {φn(x)} and { φn’(x)} are orthogonal systems of polynomials, then {φn(x)} may be reduced to the classical polynomials of Jacobi, Laguerre, or Hermite by means of a linear transformation on x.

Walt Whitman As A Critic Of Literature, Maurice O. Johnson Jan 1938

Walt Whitman As A Critic Of Literature, Maurice O. Johnson

University of Nebraska Studies in Language, Literature, and Criticism

In these pages the emphasis will be placed not upon Walt Whitman's literary theory, but upon the theory which underlay his criticism of other writers, both ancient and modern. Whitman made ample statement of his literary theory, and it has been expounded by almost everyone who has had anything to say of the poet himself, of his Leaves of Grass, or of his prose writings. To ascertain a theory upon which Whitman based his literary criticism one must examine his chaotic prose and scrappily recorded talk with an eye to selection and organization. One must with purpose arrange the materials …

The Chemical Nature And Distribution Of Black Pigment In Soil, William Sherman Gillam Jan 1938

The Chemical Nature And Distribution Of Black Pigment In Soil, William Sherman Gillam

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

As used in this paper, humus refers to that portion of the soil organic matter peptized by four per cent ammonium hydroxide. That fraction peptized by four per cent ammonium hydroxide, precipitated by acids, and insoluble in alcohol, is designated as black pigment. It is called humic soil by many writers.

Geology And Ground-Water Resources Of South-Central Nebraska. With Special Reference To The Platte River Valley Between Chapman And Gothenburg, Alvin Leonard Lugn, L. K. Wenzel Jan 1938

Geology And Ground-Water Resources Of South-Central Nebraska. With Special Reference To The Platte River Valley Between Chapman And Gothenburg, Alvin Leonard Lugn, L. K. Wenzel

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications

The investigation here reported, which covered a period of about 5 years, 1929 to 1933, was made for the purpose of determining the available supply of ground water in south-central Nebraska, the origin and discharge of the ground water, and the relation of the geologic and ground-water conditions in the Platte River Valley to the conditions occurring under the plains to the south. The area was found to be underlain by permeable Pleistocene and Tertiary sand .and gravel, much of which is saturated and yields relatively large quantities of water to wells. Except in a few isolated places the ground-water …

Root Distribution Of Trees In Relation To Soil Profile, J. E. Weaver Jan 1938

Root Distribution Of Trees In Relation To Soil Profile, J. E. Weaver

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

One of the pronounced trends in American forestry during the past decade has been the development of a widespread interest in soils. As a consequence to the soil as a part of the environmental complex has been attributed much greater importance than formerly in forest production. In fact, the individual horizons of the soil profile are receiving attention each as a more or less distinct habitat of that highly organized body designated as soil. Just as soil scientists, until recent years, have given inadequate attention to the factor of vegetation in the constitution and development of soils, so too little …
