Preparation And Keeping Quality Of Lightly Smoked Mackerel, Maurice E. Stansby, Francis P. Griffiths
Preparation And Keeping Quality Of Lightly Smoked Mackerel, Maurice E. Stansby, Francis P. Griffiths
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
SINCE at present only heavily smoked mackerel is available, the market for which is limited because of its undesirable flavor, lightly smoked mackerel similar to finnan haddie or kippered salmon should prove much more popular. Such a lightly smoked product has been prepared experimentally. It has a mild smoke flavor, which bIends with but does not overshadow the natural mackerel flavor. It is very perishabIe, but the time during which this product can be kept in good condition can be greatly extended by freezing and holding in cold storage. Brining before smoking freezing, using moistureproof paper wrappers. and storing at …
Pheasant Weights And Time Of Season In Relation To Meat Production In Nebraska, Levi L. Mohler
Pheasant Weights And Time Of Season In Relation To Meat Production In Nebraska, Levi L. Mohler
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications
During the 1942 pheasant hunting season in Nebraska 479 bagged cock pheasants were weighed in western and southwestern counties. Analysis of the weights revealed that the time of the open season apparently has a material effect upon the tonnage of meat harvested for human consumption.
Studies On Restaurant Sanitation And The Effect Of Sodium Azide On The Physiology Of Streptococcus Salivarius, Kenneth D. Rose
Studies On Restaurant Sanitation And The Effect Of Sodium Azide On The Physiology Of Streptococcus Salivarius, Kenneth D. Rose
Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)
Whether restaurant eating utensils serve as vectors in the transmission of respiratory and related diseases is still a matter for question, in spite of the overwhelming evidence in support of this contention. This is due to largely to the lack of epidemiological evidence, the tracing of an outbreak of a disease directly and unquestionably to contaminated eating utensils. The very nature of the vectors concerned obviates any possibility of obtaining this epidemiological evidence, since the contaminating agent exists as such only momentarily at the best. This research problem was undertaken with the hope that a technique designed to demonstrate the appearance of …
Increases In Aphid Populations On Potato Plants Sprayed With Zinc Arsenite In Western Nebraska, Roscoe E. Hill, H. Douglas Tate
Increases In Aphid Populations On Potato Plants Sprayed With Zinc Arsenite In Western Nebraska, Roscoe E. Hill, H. Douglas Tate
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
During the 1941 growing season, field observations in western Nebraska indicated that aphids, Myzus persicae (Sulz.), were becoming abundant in experimental potato plots that had been treated with zinc arsenite-lime sulfur spray for controlling potato flea beetles, Epitrix cucumeris (Harr.), and the potato psyllid, Paratrioza cockerelli (Sulc.). Detailed examinations of leaves showed that significantly greater populations were present on the sprayed than on the untreated plants. Evidence of slight increases also was noted on plants dusted with a barium fluosilicate and sulfur mixture.
On The Fourier Developments Of A Certain Class Of Theta Quotients, M. A. Basoco
On The Fourier Developments Of A Certain Class Of Theta Quotients, M. A. Basoco
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
In this paper we shall be concerned with the functions φka(z) defined by the relation
(1) φka(z) ≡{d/(dz)logℓα (z,q)}k = {[ℓά(z,q)] ÷ [ℓα(z,q)]k, α + 0, 1, 2, 3,
where ℓα(z, q) is a Jacobi theta function and k is a positive integer. In the first place, we shall derive the Fourier developments which represent these functions in a certain strip of the complex plane; it …
Nebraska Cattle Grub Survey, Lewis T. Graham, H. Douglas Tate
Nebraska Cattle Grub Survey, Lewis T. Graham, H. Douglas Tate
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
The scarcity of data on the actual extent of cattle grub infestation in Nebraska became evident during the winter of 1942--43 when a control program was being organized. Although there were some cattlemen who were acutely aware of the losses occasioned by this pest, there were many others who had given the problem little thought or who believed that infestation resulted largely from the importation of feeder cattle. More detailed information was obviously desirable in order to present an accurate and convincing account of the problem to the cattle growers.
The Occurence Of The Potato Tuber Worm In Nebraska, H. Douglas Tate
The Occurence Of The Potato Tuber Worm In Nebraska, H. Douglas Tate
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
A sample of potatoes showing tuber worm injury was submitted to the Entomology Department by a farmer of Elmwood (Cass County), Nebraska in September 1939. A few days later the farm was visited and a bin of about 125 bushels of potatoes was found to be heavily infested with the potato tuber worm. In compliance with instructions, the grower either used or destroyed the entire crop during the early part of the ensuing winter. Potato fields in the same vicinity were examined the following year, but no specimens or evidence of injury by this pest could be found. Apparently, this …
Resurvey Of Grasses, Forbs, And Underground Plant Parts At The End Of The Great Drought, J. E. Weaver, F. W. Albertson
Resurvey Of Grasses, Forbs, And Underground Plant Parts At The End Of The Great Drought, J. E. Weaver, F. W. Albertson
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Eight years have now passed since the fateful spring of 1934. The almost rainless March and April, the unusually high winds, and the great clouds of dust following two summers of decreasing precipitation, portended disaster. The intensity and duration of the drought and its appalling destruction have been studied from the beginning (Weaver, Stoddart, and Noll 1935) and several reports have recorded changes wrought in the native grass cover (Savage 1937; Weaver and Albertson 1936, 1939, 1940, 1940a). Drought began in great intensity a year earlier in the mixed prairie westward and south-westward. But previous to 1933, intensive studies had …

Processing Of Captured Materiel For Intelligence Purposes, Para. Ii Of War Department Training Circular 81, 6 Nov 1942, G. C. Marshall, J. A. Ulio, David Arredondo , Depositor
United States Army: Publications
This circular gives guidance to the Army pending revision of relevant field manuals. The circular lists four purposes for the evaluation of captured enemy equipment:
a. Prompt development of effective counterweapons and countertactics.
b. Prompt exploitation of new ideas for our own benefit.
c. Early deductions as to the state of enemy resources for war.
d. Speed in providing literature and other aids to assist in the training of United Nations troops in the use and maintenance of enemy equipment when captured in sufficient quantity.
The circular tells forces in the field and in the continental United States what do …
