Ec885 Leasing Arrangements On Pump-Irrigated Farms, F. J. Chase, L. F. Snipes
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Extension circular 885 contains result from a survey of 38 tenants on pump-irrigated farms in Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Hamilton, and York Counties in 1948-1949. The purpose of the survey was to find out how the contributions, expenses and income are divided between the landowners and farm operators on pump-irrigated rented farms in that area.

Effect Of Stubble Mulching On Number And Activity Of Earthworms, S. P. Teotia, F. L. Duley, T. M. Mccalla
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
A survey of earthworm population under different cropping systems was made under stubble mulch farming and where the residue was plowed under. The influence of earthworms on some of the important physical and biological properties of the soil was studied. Their role in the decomposition of crop residues was also determined.

Aircraft In Agriculture, N. E. Shafer, J. D. Furrer, J. W. Lomax
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
Airplanes were first used in agriculture shortly after the close of World War I. They proved valuable for locating mosquito breeding areas, for forest fire patrol work, as an aid in locating outlaw cotton fields in the campaign against pink bollworm, and for surveying damage caused in large forested areas by the spruce budworm.

The Growth-Promoting Properties Of Quinic Acid, Malcom Gordon, Francis A. Haskins, Herschel Mitchell
The Growth-Promoting Properties Of Quinic Acid, Malcom Gordon, Francis A. Haskins, Herschel Mitchell
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Evidence is accumulating that there is a common metabolic precursor to many of the benzene ring derivatives found in living organisms. Recent work by Davis and Tatum indicates that one such precursor is the naturally occurring shikimic acid (Fig. 1) since this compound serves as a growth factor for certain mutants of Escherichia coli and Neurospora which otherwise require a combination of tyrosine, phenylalanine, tryptophan and p-aminobenzoic acid for growth. These mutants cannot utilize the closely related, naturally occurring quinic acid (Fig. 1) as a substitute for any of their requirements.

A Preliminary Note On Trichinosis Investigations In Alaska, P. J. Brandly, Robert L. Rausch
A Preliminary Note On Trichinosis Investigations In Alaska, P. J. Brandly, Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Trichinosis in the arctic regions of the world has received considerable attention during recent years, particularly since the work of Roth (1948) in Greenland. In Connell's (1949) review of arctic trichinosis some Alaskan and Canadian records were included but, until now, little has been known of the status of the disease in Alaska. Information available at the present time indicates that the incidence of trichinosis is high in circumpolar carnivores and that marine mammals have a definite place in its epizootiology. Present knowledge cannot explain the survival of trichinosis in marine mammal populations, but it is evident that they may …

The Pleistocene Geology Of The Middle ·Portion Of The Elkhorn River Valley, W. D. Frankforter
The Pleistocene Geology Of The Middle ·Portion Of The Elkhorn River Valley, W. D. Frankforter
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
The present report is a physiographic and paleontologic approach to the Pleistocene history of a portion of the Elkhorn River Valley in parts of Dodge, Cuming and Stanton counties in northeastern Nebraska. The area is important for correlation of deposits between the glacial and periglacial regions. Some of the critical stratigraphic units used for correlation in the Pleistocene of these regions are present in close association with the tills and contain fossils which make possible reliable statements on contemporaneity of deposits. The subsequent geologic history and present physiographic expression of this area have been greatly controlled and influenced by the …

Sample Size Required For Estimating The Standard Deviation As A Percent Of Its True Value, Joseph A. Greenwood, Marion M. Sandomire
Sample Size Required For Estimating The Standard Deviation As A Percent Of Its True Value, Joseph A. Greenwood, Marion M. Sandomire
United States Navy: Publications
One frequently encounters the need of a rational selection of sample size when it is desired to estimate the standard deviation. Changing the permissible error of the estimate from an absolute to a relative one is acceptable in many cases and permits an exact, a priori solution to the problem of sample size without involving any previous estimates.
