Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Vii. On Some Helminths From Arctic Marmots With The Description Of Catenotaenia Reggiae N. Sp. (Cestoda: Anoplocephalidae), Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Among Alaskan mammals examined for helminthic parasites during 1950 was a series of marmots, Marmota caligata broweri Hall and Gilmore, 1934, from the Brooks Range, Arctic Alaska. The animals were collected a few miles south of Tolugak Lake (lat. 68° 24' N, long. 151° 26' W), and from the vicinity of Kanayut Lake, about 15 miles northeast of Tolugak Lake. This distinctive marmot has been hitherto represented in collections only by the three specimens comprising the type material. In addition to greatly extending the known range of this form, the collection of these specimens also contributes the first information on …

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
I T SEEMS desirable at this time to present a graphic resume of the Nebraska Pleistocene, together with a summary of the stratigraphic sequences of the fossil vertebrates. This report is based on data taken from various publications' in addition to information gathered by the present writers during the past fifteen or more field seasons. Intensive work has been done in the past five years in connection with recovery of paleontological material in the areas where government dams are under construction (Schultz, Lueninghoener, and Frankforter, 1948; Schultz and Frankforter, 1948; Holder and Wike, 1949). United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence
The modern US Army vision of the technical intelligence developed during World War II. Shortly before World War II, Army Technical Services had been instructed to set up intelligence sections in the offices of their chiefs. The technical services were bureaus which supplied weapons, equipment, and services to the Army, managed the careers of officers in the related branch, trained specialists, and organized and trained special purpose military units. There were a number of technical services including the Chemical Warfare Service, the Medical Department, the Ordnance Department, etc. The Ordnance Department provided fire arms, artillery, combat vehicles, and related ammunition, …

Progress Report: Chemical Quality Of The Surface Waters In The Loup River Basin, Nebraska, John G. Connor
Progress Report: Chemical Quality Of The Surface Waters In The Loup River Basin, Nebraska, John G. Connor
United States Geological Survey: Publications
The Loup River and its tributaries transport moderate amounts of siliceous minerals from the sand hills region of north-central Nebraska to the Platte River near Columbus, Nebr. Predominant chemical characteristics of these waters are a high percentage of silica, moderate hardness, and a low percentage of sodium. The composition of the Loup River water is influenced by the geologic formations through which ground water, a major contributor to the flows of the Loup River branches, has percolated. Investigation of water quality at or near proposed dam sites in the Loup River basin indicates that if soil and drainage conditions are …

History Of Technical Intelligence, Army General School, Robert Bolin , Depositor
United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence
This is an excellent description of the history of Army technical intelligence during World War II. It gives good descriptions of technical intelligence in the various theaters of operation and of the lessons learned from each. The experience in the Pacific Theater was highlighted. The use of a Technical Intelligence Company in the Pacific has proven an influential model for the organization of technical intelligence in the field in later wars. The first part of the document is an outline showing how to present the material to the students. The final 8 pages are a summary of the material covered …

Some Economic Aspects Of The Fluid Milk Industry Of Nebraska, Kenneth E. Anderson
Some Economic Aspects Of The Fluid Milk Industry Of Nebraska, Kenneth E. Anderson
Department of Agricultural Economics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Most citizens of Nebraska, especially the dairy farmers who produced milk for city consumption, are currently concerned with the problem of marketing fluid milk.In Nebraska and all over the United States, sales of wholesale milk farmers have been increasing for the past 15 years, while cream sales to creameries have been decreasing.
Production of milk in Nebraska is greatest in the eastern part of the state.Likewise, consumption is concentrated in Eastern Nebraska. This is most likely due to Eastern Nebraska’s highly concentrated population as well as the most favorable farm conditions for dairy cows.
Most of the bottled milk in …

The Uranyl Nitrate-Water System Above 60°, W. L. Marshall, Jr., J. S. Gill, C. H. Secoy
United States Department of Energy: Publications
Although there are some data in the literature for the solubility of uranyl nitrate in water, the discrepancy of these data indicated the necessity for a check on the measurements. We have measured the solubility from the incongruent melting point of the hexahydrate at about 60° to the melting point of the dihydrate at 184°. Our results show a lower solubility than that given in most of the earlier data and also indicate an incongruent melting point for the trihydrate rather than the congruent point inferred in some of the previous work. The system is thermally stable up to the …

Ecological Studies In A Midwestern Range: The Vegetation And Effects Of Cattle On Its Composition And Distribution, J. E. Weaver, G. W. Tomanek
Ecological Studies In A Midwestern Range: The Vegetation And Effects Of Cattle On Its Composition And Distribution, J. E. Weaver, G. W. Tomanek
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
There is continued need for a better understanding of range vegetation and its use by range animals. Range preservation and improvement in the midwest are largely matters of wise use and proper management of our natural grasslands. A more comprehensive understanding of the range itself is needed--its forage, soil, and water supply, and factors influencing a proper distribution of livestock. The degree of utilization of forage that will result in the maintenance of excellent or good range condition and the improvement of a range in fair condition should be ascertained. Soil conservation on range lands is accomplished primarily by improvement …
