Riding Mountain National Park is located in southwestern Manitoba within easy reach of important centres of population. From park headquarters at Wasagaming, it is only 140 miles southeast to Winnipeg, 57 miles south to Brandon, 35 miles north to Dauphin, and 102 miles to the International Boundary. Most of the surrounding country is devoted to agriculture.
The total park area approximates 1,148 square miles. Except for restricted tourist areas, it remains in a primitive condition, with unspoiled forests, prairies, streams, and lakes.
Up to the time the area was set aside as a park in 1929, comparatively little was known …
Avian Botulism Information On Earlier Research
Avian Botulism Information On Earlier Research
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
Over the years, the disease, avian botulism, has been an important factor limiting populations of waterfowl, particularly in the West. Great numbers (doubtless millions) of ducks have died from this disease, and because of such heavy tolls, studies of the malady were begun early in the century and continued intermittently to the present time.
This summary brings up to 1950 the series of investigations on botulism by Wetmore (1918), Kalmbach (1930, 1932), Kalmbach and Gunderson (1934), Sperry (1947), and others. This information has been compiled as a service to those concerned with conservation of our waterfowl resources. A cooperative agreement …

Subject: Lucille Ball
X called to inquire if we could give him any guidance on Lucille Ball, the television actress. I asked him what his angle was. He then stated X had a notation earlier this week about a prominent television actress being turned up as a Communist; that their Los Angeles managed had checked the registration records (I assume voting registration records) and found Lucille Ball was listed as a Communist in 1936 and 1938. A Survey Of Farm-Game Habitat Restoration Programs In Fifteen States, William H. Marshall
A Survey Of Farm-Game Habitat Restoration Programs In Fifteen States, William H. Marshall
Other Publications in Wildlife Management
For at least twenty years the thinking of wildlife managers has been directed toward the importance of habitat in producing surplus game populations for hunting. The decline or disappearance of game populations - often over considerable areas - following changes in habitat brought about by agricultural, urban, or industrial developments demonstrates clearly the effects of the elimination of desirable habitat. Suitable habitat is basic to the survival of wildlife. Many field observations and experiences, as well as specific data from research, validate this conclusion. Where a harvestable surplus of game cannot be maintained because of changes made by man in …
The Ecology Of Mosquito Borne Viruses, Carl M. Eklund
The Ecology Of Mosquito Borne Viruses, Carl M. Eklund
United States Public Health Resources
The ecology of a mosquito borne virus involves a consideration of the growth of the virus within the vertebrate and arthropod hosts, the reaction of these hosts to the presence of the virus, and the vertebrate-arthropod associations which are necessary for the dissemination and maintenance of the virus. Little is known of the physiological properties of a particular host and virus which permit multiplication of the virus. In this review stress will be laid u pon studies which attempt to discover the mechanisms in nature which maintain these viruses. The first section will relate to the geographical distribution and time …

Shortly after World War II, the President created the Publication Board, an interagency committee, and authorized it to distribute government documents bottled up by war-time secrecy as well as documents containing information obtained from World War II enemies. The Publication Board began advertising documents for sale in the Bibliography of Scientific and Industrial Reports (BSIR) in 1946. Those documents were assigned PB numbers which were to be used as order numbers when ordering documents from the Publication Board.
The documents distributed by the Publication Board soon came to be known as technical reports. The Publication Board eventually evolved into the …

Revision Of The United Nations Charter And The Development Of The Law, Willard B. Cowles
Nebraska Law Review
Article 109 of the Charter of the United Nations requires that the agenda of the 1955 General Assembly contain a proposal for the establishment of a General Conference to review the present Charter'. A Senate Commission was chosen in September, 1953, to study proposals for revision. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, announcing in August, 1953, that the United States favors holding the conference, said that if we are to have real security we must do those things which U.... are necessary to put international intercourse on a friendly and nonfriction basis." There were "serious inadequacies" in the Charter which …

During the October 1952 Term of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Court heard oral argument in five cases involving attacks under the Fourteenth Amendment upon the practice of segregating Negroes in public schools in various states. On June 8, 1953, the Supreme Court restored the cases to the docket and assigned them for reargument on October 12, 1953, which date was later extended to December 7, 1953, at the request of the Attorney General of the United States. The Court requested counsel to discuss particularly five questions.' The first two were: 1. What evidence is there that …

Income Tax-Partnerships — Distributive Share Of Capital Gains — In What Respect Is The Partnership Tax Return More Than An Information Return?, John P. Pfann
Nebraska Law Review
A recent Tax Court decision presents an opportunity to review the function of the partnership in the income tax field. A partnership sold its assets under circumstances where it could have elected to treat the transaction as an installment sale under section 44(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, on the partnership return, the capital gain from the sale was reported on the completed 'transaction basis. The partner on his *return reported his share of the partnership capital gain on the installment basis. The tax court held that the partner must report the same distributive share of the gain as …
Contracts — Damages — Burden Of Proof On Elements Of Damage In Actions For Breach Of A Correspondence School Contract, Donn E. Davis
Contracts — Damages — Burden Of Proof On Elements Of Damage In Actions For Breach Of A Correspondence School Contract, Donn E. Davis
Nebraska Law Review
Where P contracts to build a house for D, and after P has partially performed the contract, D notifies him to stop working, thereby breaching the contract, P’s recovery in an action for the breach is limited to the amount of damages he can prove with reasonable certainty. The items comprising his damages are the expenses incurred up to the time of the breach, plus the expected profits on the total contract. This is the normal rule in contracts cases.
However, where P is a correspondence school, and D a person who has contracted to pay for correspondence courses and …

Recent Cases: Bankruptcy — Res Judicata — Proof Of Non-Dischargeability Of Judgment Under Section 17(A), Charles H. Beatty
Nebraska Law Review
Plaintiff, holder of two Vermont judgments against defendant, duly scheduled them against defendant in bankruptcy. Later, an effort to have the judgments discharged in a state court was resisted by plaintiff on the grounds that they were for a "willful and malicious injury" within section 17(a) of the Bankruptcy Act, and, therefore, excepted from discharge.' The claim was based on the granting by the original Vermont trial court of plaintiff's motion for a certificate that close jail confinement was justified to enforce his judgments, a procedure authorized by Vermont statute only when the ".... cause of action arose from the …

Recent Cases: Constitutional Law — Aliens — Right Of Due Process In Exclusion Proceedings, Ronald W. Hunter
Nebraska Law Review
An alien, who had resided in the United States for twenty-five years, had married an American citizen and had purchased a home in the United States, left this country to visit his dying mother in Roumania. Upon his return, he was excluded from the United States by order of the Attorney General for "security reasons," without a hearing and without being advised of the reason for his exclusion. After detention on Ellis Island for twenty-five months, while attempts to deport him failed because other countries refused to accept him, he sought release by habeas corpus, alleging unlawful confinement. The District …

Since 1889 the Jaybird Democratic Association of Fort Bend County, Texas has conducted an election in which candidates for local and county offices have been chosen prior to the official Democratic Party primary election.
