The American Eagles And Their Economic Status, E. R. Kalmbach, Ralph H. Imler, Lee W. Arnold

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

For centuries eagles have captured the fancy of man the world over. Because of its extensive range in the northern hemisphere, the golden eagle is the most widely known of this group of birds. Its use in falconry was the sport of kings. The frequency of its appearance in royal coats of arms indicated its importance. It is the national emblem of Germany and Mexico.

In North America the bald eagle as well as the golden eagle represents this group of powerful birds of prey. The bald eagle is strictly an American species, and the founders of the United States …

Ec64-1179 American 18th Century Furniture, Magdalene Pfister Jan 1964

Ec64-1179 American 18th Century Furniture, Magdalene Pfister

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

During early colonial days, only the most essential and simplest furniture was made. As the country changed from frontier to prosperous colonies, more furniture was imported. These pieces were copied but often with simpler ornamentation. Native woods as well as imported mahogany were used. Furniture made in this century, "the golden age of decorative arts," is still copied or adapted today.

The styles of England were brought over through books, by immigrants, and by the royal governors whose homes expressed culture and refinement as well as importance of their position.

United States Army: Training Documents

This a useful manual for writing of all types. The guide to research in an appendix is sensible. The “watchlist” is a good guide to avoiding Pentagonese. The author of this text had a sense of humor.

One unusual feature of the text is that the manual contains instructions for writing a staff study and a sample of a model staff study.

Breeder Reactors, Lloyd G. Alexander

United States Department of Energy: Publications

Energy from nuclear sources will contribute substantially toward meeting the world's power requirements by the end of this century and possibly will dominate by the middle of the next. While it is hoped that the fusion of hydrogen or deuterium will ultimately provide energy at negligible cost, this is not certain; and present efforts are directed mainly toward the develop ment of reactors wherein nuclear energy is released by the neutron-induced fission of certain isotopes of uranium and plutonium.

Comparative Behavior And Relationships Of The Eiders, Paul A. Johnsgard Jan 1964

Comparative Behavior And Relationships Of The Eiders, Paul A. Johnsgard

Papers in Ornithology

One of the more controversial systematic problems existing in the family Anatidae concerns the taxonomic rank and evolutionary relationships of the four species of eiders, which are currently considered by the American Ornithologists’ Union (1957) to comprise three genera (Somateria, Lampronetta, and Polysticta) in the diving duck subfamily Aythyinae. In 1945, however, Delacour and Mayr included the eiders in a single genus (Somateria) within the sea duck tribe Mergini. At present, Delacour (1959) considers the eiders a separate tribe, Somateriini, distinct from the other sea ducks, and placed near the dabbling duck tribe Anatini. The erection …

Aldrin, p,p’-DDT, dieldrin, gamma chlordane, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, 1-hydroxychlordene, and lindane were biassayed against larvae of Anopheles quadrimaculaus Say; the remnant amounts of insecticide and metabolites in larvae and medium were determined by electron-affinity gas chromatography. The insecticides were surprisingly nonpersistant at concentrations normally sued.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

CC192- The 1964 What Referendum- May 21 has been set by Secretary of Agriculture for referendum among wheat growers on the 1964 wheat program. Although such votes have been held in each of the past ten years, this one is especially important because of changes made by the Food and Agricultural Act of 1962. This act is the latest in a long series of efforts to solve the problem of imbalance between the production and consumption of wheat.

Waterfowl Drive-Trap Banding, Gene Goecke Jan 1964

Waterfowl Drive-Trap Banding, Gene Goecke

Other Publications in Wildlife Management

During a 3-week period in July of 1964, Game Section personnel with assistance from Biology Section and Conservation Officer personnel carried out drive-trap waterfowl banding operations on marsh areas in the northern part of Iowa. This was the fourth year that drive-trap banding operations have been carried out in the state. Several days prior to the actual banding operations were spent selecting areas to band. Areas were selected that had a good population of local birds and vegetative cover suitable for banding. Young birds can be extremely difficult to drive on heavily vegetated marshes of emergent vegetation, and marshes lacking …

Beef Cattle Progress Report, E. F. Frolik, H. H. Kramer Jan 1964

Beef Cattle Progress Report, E. F. Frolik, H. H. Kramer

Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports

Efficiency of sugar beet farming can be improved by feeding beet top silage to livestock.

In two recent trials at the Scotts Bluff Experiment Station lambs fed unwilted beet top silage as the only roughage gained significantly faster than lambs fed corn silage.

Amounts of concentrates were comparable (Nebraska Experiment Station Quarterly, Fall, 1962).

This experiment compared the feeding value of a complete mixture of unwilted beet tops and concentrate added at the time of ensiling, with beet top silage and concentrate handled separately. A conventional corn silage and concentrate ration was used as a control.

Results showed that a …

The Nebraska Uniform Commercial Code: Article 3—Commercial Paper, Rodney Shkolnick Jan 1964

The Nebraska Uniform Commercial Code: Article 3—Commercial Paper, Rodney Shkolnick

Nebraska Law Review

At midnight on September 1, 1965, the Uniform Commercial Code will become operative in Nebraska. The Code repeals the Nebraska version of the Uniform Negotiable Instruments Law (NIL), and Article 3 of the Code will cover the subject of "Commercial Paper." Although Article 3 largely retains the substance of the NIL, new language and sometimes new approaches are apparent. While a section-by-section treatment of Article 3 is beyond the scope of this paper, we attempt to take an overall look at Article 3 with particular attention to those instances wherein the Code changes the law as it existed under the …

Documents Of Title Under The Uniform Commercial Code—Article 7, Daniel Stubbs Jan 1964

Documents Of Title Under The Uniform Commercial Code—Article 7, Daniel Stubbs

Nebraska Law Review

Article 7 of the Uniform Commercial Code relates to documents of title in the area covered by the Uniform Warehouse Receipts Act, the Uniform Bills of Lading Act, and that part of the Uniform Sales Act dealing with documents of title. A substantial caveat is important. Section 7-103 excludes from the operation of the Act two substantial areas: (1) It does not apply where federal law is paramount, and (2) excludes matters controlled by state regulatory statutes and the tariffs, regulations, and classifications issued pursuant to them. A document of title is first, a receipt for the goods by the …

Estate Planning And The Severance Of Joint Tenancies In Nebraska, Richard C. Schmoker Jan 1964

Estate Planning And The Severance Of Joint Tenancies In Nebraska, Richard C. Schmoker

Nebraska Law Review

For many years, attorneys and estate planners have been cautious of joint tenancies where substantial wealth is involved. A jointly owned estate poses a number of tax problems and ownership difficulties which often frustrate the intentions of the creator. The primary advantage of holding property in joint tenancy is that the cost and publicity of probate are avoided. To secure this benefit, the owner loses many rights to the property and may suffer disastrous tax consequences. Basically, the use of joint tenancies prevents the contributing tenant from efficiently planning the disposition of his property. If he should die first, the …
