Nebraska Law Review
The final issue of volume 49 marks the termination of a very brief experience in the College of Law. If our brief career in the law school and on the Law Review has taught us anything, it is that a lawyer cannot properly represent his client and meet the responsibilities of professional life unless he assumes, and lives up to, his responsibilities with an attitude of self-pride. Only if we as lawyers take pride in the development of our work product can we hope to serve our clients and add something constructive to the legal process. In the meantime, the …

A New Tribe Of Saber-Toothed Cats (Barbourofelini) From The Pliocene Of North America, C. Bertrand Schultz, Marian R. Schultz, Larry D. Martin
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
A new genus of Pliocene Saber-toothed felid, Barbourofelis, is proposed and two new species B. fricki and B. morrisi are described. These two forms and other described material represent an unusual lineage of felids with long sabers, shortened crania, and massive postorbital bars. The tribal name Barbourofelini is proposed for this lineage which is presently known in North America from deposits ranging in age from Clarendonian through Kimballian. The Barbourofelini apparently migrated from Eurasia to North America in the Late Miocene or Early Pliocene. Sansanosmilus of the French Vindobonian appears to represent the ancestral stock of these cats. The …

Nebraska Law Review
Since the landmark decisions of Miranda v. Arizona and Escobedo v. Illinois, state and federal courts have struggled to set the boundaries on further interpretation of one's constitutional rights in areas other than the criminal law. For example, those states which have enacted implied consent laws have been consistently confronted with the assertion of these constitutional arguments by those convicted of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. By and large the courts sitting in implied consent states have remained impervious to the general trend generated by Miranda and Escobedo by narrowly construing the rights of those individuals …
Consumer Protection: Article Two Of The Ucc, Douglas F. Duchek
Consumer Protection: Article Two Of The Ucc, Douglas F. Duchek
Nebraska Law Review
First and foremost this Comment is on consumer protection, with particular emphasis upon the low-income consumer, rather than an analysis of specific sections of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). The UCC presently offers certain protection for those consumers who have been the victims of a "bad" contract. In the sales article, Article Two, are two concepts that are especially important for the consumer: unconscionability, covered by section 2-302, and warranty, covered by sections 2-313 through 2-316. In discussing these sections, however, other sections must be mentioned, as one can rarely discuss one section of the UCC intelligently in any given …

Effect Of Feeding-Fasting Interval On Finishing Pigs: Weight Gain, Feed Utilization And Physical And Chemical Carcass Measurements, T. L. Veum, W. G. Pond, L. Dale Van Vleck, E. F. Walker Jr., L. Krook
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
Thirty-two Yorkshire pigs (49 kg body weight, 108 days of age) were used to determine the effect of feeding-fasting interval on rate of body weight gain, feed utilization and carcass and organ measurements at a slaughter weight of approximately 90 kilograms. Treatments were: (1) Continuous ad libitum feeding,(2) ad libitum 1 day, fasted on alternate days, (3) ad libitum 1 day, fasted 2 days, (4) ad libitum 1 day, fasted 3 days. Average daily gain was reduced progressively as severity of the fasting-feeding interval was increased. Efficiency of feed utilization, likewise, was reduced as the severity of feed restriction increased, …
Influence Of Dietary Supplements Of Vitamin D3 And Various Fats On Cholesterol And Fatty Acid Composition Of The Blood And Body Of Growing-Finishing Swine, M. H. Jurgens, E. R. Peo, Jr., P. E. Vipperman, Jr., R. W. Mandingo
W. Mandingo
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
Previous work at this station suggested that vitamin D2, when fed with or without dietary cholesterol, depressed blood cholesterol levels of swine (Jurgens, Peo and Vipperman, 1967) and rats (Jurgens, Blunn and Peo, 1968). While not proven to be the cause, blood cholesterol levels have been used as one of the main criteria to estimate the development of atherosclerosis in man (Rabinowitz, Meyerson and Wohl, 1960; Swell, Law and Treadwell, 1962). Several investigators have reported that supplementation of unsaturated fats (Ahrens et al., 1957; Okey and Lyman, 1957; Avigan and Steinberg, 1958; Peifer, 1966) and especially linoleic …

Ec70-951 Swiss Fondue, Ethel Diedrichsen
Ec70-951 Swiss Fondue, Ethel Diedrichsen
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Cheese Fondue is a Swiss national dish which combines cheese and bread. In years past, quantities of bread and cheese were made during the winter for use throughout the year. Gradually, both became very hard. To make them more edible, the cheese was melted and the bread dunked in this mixture.
Fondue to served informally in a festive atmosphere. Each person spears a piece of crusty bread with a fork, going through the soft part first to secure the points in the crust. The bread is dunked in the fondue with a stirring motion.
This extension circular discusses the fondue …
