Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
The occasion for the present exhibition, the dedication of the Sheldon Sculpture Garden, marks the completion of one of the most important gifts ever made to the University of Nebraska and to the people of the state. The importance of the gift lies not only in the fact of the distinguished building and the art objects which it houses, but also in the fact of their presence as a potential, a place and a situation where the creative spirit, traditional and activist, may find a laboratory, a workshop and an audience.
The garden is first of all a physical enlargement …

Richard Diebenkorn: The" 41 Etchings Drypoints" Portfolio, George W. Neubert
Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
Throughout his career, Richard Diebenkorn has employed both abstract and figurative compositional techniques. During the period between the 1963 retrospective exhibition of his figurative paintings at the M. H. de Young Museum in San Francisco and 1965, when he began work on his widely acclaimed and ongoing Ocean Park series, he produced a series of over one hundred figurative etchings, among them, domestic interiors, portraits of his wife, table-top still lifes, nudes, and San Francisco Bay Area landscapes. In 1965, forty-one of these prints were selected by the artist and published by Crown Point Press, Berkeley. Entitled 41 Etchings Drypoints …

Selected Works From The Collection Of Mrs. A.B. Sheldon, Norman Geske
Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
INTRODUCTION :
The exhibition of works of art selected from the collection of Olga Sheldon is an event of particular pleasure for those of us associated with the Sheldon Gallery. For the first time we have an opportunity to demonstrate that Mrs. Sheldon, aside from being one of the Gallery's best friends, is also a person who truly loves art and artists and who finds a major satisfaction in knowing and sharing their works and personalities. While, on the one hand, she has secured for the gallery collection a number of major works which otherwise might never have been ours, …

Influence Of Dietary Supplements Of Cholesterol And Vitamin D On Certain Components Of The Blood And Body Of Growing-Finishing Swine, M. H. Jurgens, E. R. Peo, Jr.
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
The American public has been made extremely conscious of the concept that saturated fat and cholesterol may be involved in atherosclerosis in man. Likewise, because of their content of cholesterol and saturated fatty acids, animal products have become engrossed in a controversy concerning their role in the atherogenic process. No definite conclusions have been made in this area and until further research advances in the field of atherosclerosis, the animal scientist may have to concern himself with modifying the animal product in such a way that it will be more acceptable to the American public. The degree to which this …
A Summary Of Intergeneric New World Quail Hybrids, And A New Intergeneric Hybrid Combination, Paul A. Johnsgard
A Summary Of Intergeneric New World Quail Hybrids, And A New Intergeneric Hybrid Combination, Paul A. Johnsgard
Papers in Ornithology
The exceedingly close affinities of the quail genera Colinus, Callipepla, and Lophortyx have been recognized for some time and have recently been emphasized by additional morphological (Holman 1961; Hudson et al. 1966), biochemical (Sibley 1960), and pterylographic (Ohmart 1967) evidence. Indeed, Holman has suggested that these three taxa might best be regarded as subgenera. Phillips et al. (1964) pragmatically merged Lophortyx with Callipepla; and Delacour (1961-1962) synonymized not only Lophortyx, but also Oreortyx and Philortyx, with Callipepla, yet retained Colinus as a separate genus. Although Ohmart (1967) questioned the validity of generically separating Lophortyx and …

Mite Transmission Of Plant Viruses, G.N. Oldfield
Mite Transmission Of Plant Viruses, G.N. Oldfield
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The subject of mite transmission of plant viruses has been reviewed several times by Slykhuis (122, 124,126,128). A considerable number of papers on this subject have been published since Slykhuis's last review; several constitute significant additions to the knowledge of the relationships between mites and the plant viruses they transmit.
Except, perhaps, for the apparent case of transmission of potato virus Y by Tetranychus telarius (107), the only proven mite vectors of plant viruses are certain members of the family Eriophyidae. In 1927, Amos et al. (2) reported a positive correlation between the infestation of black currants with the black …

The use of high concentrate rations in finishing cattle has led to a rather high loss of livers due to abscesses.
The 1967 Statistical Summary of the Federal Meat Inspection Service of the USDA indicated the total number of cattle inspected was 27,859,980. Of these, 9.6% were condemned because of liver abscess. Considering the value of a liver to be about $3, the estimated loss to the industry because of condemnatIon due to abscess would be over $8 million annually.
The incidence of liver abscesses increases as the roughage level in a finishing ration decreases below 5% (Table I). The …

No Minor Imperfection, Virginia H. Knauer

A consumer revolution is happening. Congress is taking action. The Government at all levels is taking action. President Nixon outlined a strong administrative and legislative program in his Consumer Message to Congress. Specifically, the President asked for four legislative measures, and these have now been introduced in Congress. They are the proposed: (1) Consumer Representation Act, (2) Consumer Protection Act, (3) Product Testing Act, and (4) Drug Identification Code Act. More than thirty-five states and a number of cities have established consumer protection bureaus, and industry is paying considerably more attention to consumer education programs and to complaints and services. …

Commercial Law—When Appropriate Why Not Apply The Uniform Commercial Code? Jordan V. Butler, 183 Neb. 626, 156 N.W.2d 778 (1968), Kenneth C. Fritzler Ii
Nebraska Law Review
Jordan v. Butler concerns the right of a defrauded seller to reclaim possession of cattle under the Uniform Commercial Code and how that right is affected by a security interest in the same cattle. The essence of Jordan concerns a question of priority between the right of the defrauded seller to regain possession of the goods, if indeed such a right exists, and the claim of the secured party who had advanced money on the strength of collateral with no notice that the original seller was as yet unpaid. Based upon a theory of constructive trust, the Nebraska Supreme Court …

The letters of dedication which follow express the affection and high esteem in which this distinguished individual is held by the citizens of this state. The Nebraska Law Review is proud to dedicate the March issue in honor of this remarkable man whose manner, nature, and sense of dignity add so much to the judicial process.
Nebraska Criminal Discovery, John R. Snowden
Nebraska Criminal Discovery, John R. Snowden
Nebraska Law Review
One of the controversial issues in today's dynamic criminal law and procedure is the proper role and status of discovery. The notion of criminal discovery has had an exciting if not always successful history, and apparently the trend of the law is toward liberalization. The Eightieth Session of the Nebraska Legislature attempted to deal with this area by passing two bills, LB 702 and LB 1417. This Comment examines the current role and status of criminal discovery in Nebraska as a result of the legislation.

Legislative Review, Craig W. Thompson, William J. Wochner
Nebraska Law Review
In furtherance of the Nebraska Law Review's attempt to bring more material to the Nebraska lawyer which is of interest to him, the Editors have decided to present a review of the 1969 Unicameral session. This review is not a complete synopsis of the bills passed by the legislature in the eightieth session. Because of the great number of bills presented to the session and eventually passed, we have attempted to select a small cross-section of bills which were felt to be of particular interest to the practicing attorney. The bills discussed in this article were chosen because of …

Colleges And Universities—Section 1983, Procedural Due Process And University Regulations: Any Relationship? Esteban V. Central Missouri State College, 415 F.2d 1077 (8th Cir. 196), Roger M. Beverage
Nebraska Law Review
The relationship between the college student and the university has assumed added dimensions in recent years. Historically, this relationship remained outside the scope of judicial scrutiny, and colleges and universities were left free to discipline and sanction students without a great deal of judicial restraint or interference. This judicial abstention was based for the most part upon theories of in loco parentis—wherein the courts viewed the university as acting in a fatherly, counseling function—or upon theories of contract law. In recent years several courts have repudiated or ignored these earlier theories, guaranteeing the student that, as a minimum, disciplinary …

Volume 50 of the Nebraska Law Review provides a forum to present new ideas on matters of current interest to lawyers. Our goal is to stimulate creative thought about law and society.
From The Editors
Nebraska Law Review
Between the law student at the University of Nebraska and the members of the local and state bar associations there exists an unfortunate gap which is due in part to the isolation of the two institutions from one another. From the student's point of view it is unfortunate because he is losing something very meaningful by not coming into contact with the members of the active practice, save in a few individual circumstances. Perhaps this gap could be narrowed to a certain extent, if not permanently closed, by arousing in the members of the bar an interest in the law …
