A Generic Revision Of The Pterodedinae, A New Subfamily Of Feather Mites (Sarcoptiformes: Analgoidea), Chong K. Park, Warren T. Atyeo
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
The generic rev1s1on of the Pterodectinae, new subfamily of the Proctophyllodidae, is based on 88 named and over 160 new species. Included are morphology, host-parasite relationships, diagnoses of four named and eight new genera, and illustrations of each type species. The named genera are:
Anisodiscus Gaud and Mouchet, 1957; Montesauria Oudemans, 1905; Proterothrix Gaud, 1968; Pterodectes Robin, 1877. The new genera and their type species are: Dolichodectes, Proctophyllodes (Pterocolus) edwardsi Trouessart, 1885; Megalodectes, Proctophyllodes (Pterodectes) major Trouessart, 1885; Neodectes, Proctophyl/odes (Pterodectes) securiclatus Trouessart and Neumann, 1888; Pedanodectes, Pterodectes hologaster Gaud, 1953; Syntomodectes, Proctophyllodes (Pterodectes) selenurus Trouessart, 1885; Toxerodectes, Pterodectes gladiger …
Low-Lying Even-Parity Resonances In Ki:Ag+, Roger D. Kirby
Low-Lying Even-Parity Resonances In Ki:Ag+, Roger D. Kirby
Roger Kirby Publications
Lattice resonances of Eg symmetry (16.35 cm-1) and A1g symmetry (25 cm-1) have been found in KI:Ag+ using far-infrared spectroscopic techniques. The two even-parity modes are found to be anharmonically coupled to the T1u- symmetry resonant mode at 17.3 cm-1, giving rise to the combination bands observed at 30 and 44.4 cm-1.

The Somatic Chromosomes Of Some North American Marmots (Sciuridae), With Remarks On The Relationships Of Marmota Browerii Hall And Gilmore, Robert L. Rausch, Virginia R. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Karyotypes are defined for two nearctic species of marmots, Marmota olympus (2n = 40) and M. vancouverensis (2n = 42), and supplemental information is included on the karyotypes of M. flaviventris, M. monax ochracea, and M. marmota. The six North American species of Marmota (NF = 66) comprise a distinct group as compared with the middle Asian species (NF = 70) for which the karyotypes are known. Karyologic findings and zoogeographic evidence based upon the distribution of two nearctic species of host-specific cestodes indicate that M. broweri, in northern Alaska, is a pre-Würm relict. Its affinities …

Far-Infrared Properties Of Lattice Resonant Modes. V. Second-Order Stark Effect, B.P. Clayman, Roger D. Kirby, A. J. Sievers
Roger Kirby Publications
Small electric-field-induced frequency shifts have been observed for resonant modes associated with three defect systems. For NaI: Clˉ, the shifts have been used to measure the quartic anharmonic terms of the interionic potential of the impurity ion. For KBr: Li+, the quartic anharmonic terms are found to be very small, and an harmonic potential which includes a central barrier with the barrier height less than the zero-point energy of the oscillator is required to explain the experimental results. For NaCl: Cu+, only an "on-center" resonant-mode configuration is consistent with the experimental results.

Simulation Of Particle Tracks In Emulsion, Thomas E. Furtak, Robert Katz
Robert Katz Publications
Micrographs of energetic particles in nuclear emulsion are simulated by computing the spatial distribution of developed grains with the δ-ray theory of track structure, and representing the developed grains by points of light on an IBM 2250 visual display unit. The simulated tracks display many of the features of actual track structure and serve as a visual comparison between experiment and theory,

Morphological Variation In Stenoderma Rufum, J, Knox Jones Jr., Hugh H. Genoways, Robert J. Baker
Morphological Variation In Stenoderma Rufum, J, Knox Jones Jr., Hugh H. Genoways, Robert J. Baker
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
For more than 100 years, the red fruit-eating bat, Stenoderma rufum Desmarest, 1820, was known only by a specimen of unknown geographic provenience. Anthony ( 1918, 1925) rediscovered Stenoderma in Puerto Rican cave deposits, but the first living specimens to be reported since the original description were taken on St. John in the Virgin Islands (Hall and Bee, 1960). Subsequently, Tamsitt and Valdivieso (1966) recorded living representatives from Puerto Rico-from a population later named and described as a distinctive subspecies, Stenoderma rufum darioi, by Hall and Tamsitt (1968). The latter authors also reported a specimen of S. r. rufum …

Genetic And Environmental Aspects Of Udder Infections, J. W. Wilton, L. Dale Van Vleck, R. W. Everett, R. S. Guthrie, S. J. Roberts
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
Information on the presence or absence of bacterial infections and abnormal secretions in each quarter of cows in their initial survey on the New York State Veterinary College Mastitis Program was used to obtain several criteria of udder infection. Year-season and stage of lactation effects were statistically significant for several criteria of infection in first, second, and later lactation groups but did not explain much of the variation in any infection criterion. Age within first and second lactation group also accounted for little of the variation in infection although age within later lactations accounted for up to 5% of the …

A Study Of Primary Productivity In A Nebraska Interstate 80 Lake, Gilbert Adrian, Carl Throckmorton, Bob Mcdonald
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications
The primary productivity of a small gravel pit lake in the Platte River Valley of Nebraska was studied for a 2-year period. Daily production rates were estimated from near weekly samples, with calculations done by computer. Emphasis was placed on production under ice during winter conditions. Annual production was estimated and is compared with several other lakes in North America.
Wing Loading In Plecotus Rafinesquii, Clyde Jones, Royal D. Suttkus
Wing Loading In Plecotus Rafinesquii, Clyde Jones, Royal D. Suttkus
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
Considerable interest has developed in recent years with regard to studies of wing areas and wing loadings of North American bats (Davis and Cockrum, 19645; Jones, 1967; Davis, 1969; Farney and Fleharty, 1969). To our knowledge, such data have not been presented for Plecotus rafinesquii, one of the least known of North American species (Barbour and Davis, 1969). The purpose of this report is to provide information on flight of P. rafinesquii species, as well as adults of two other species of Plecotus.
Seventy-one P. rafinesquii were studied: five were banded and released and 66 were preserved either as skins …
Introduction To Ethnic Voters And The Election Of Lincoln, Frederick C. Luebke
Introduction To Ethnic Voters And The Election Of Lincoln, Frederick C. Luebke
Department of History: Faculty Publications
A twofold purpose informs this anthology of essays on ethnic voters in the presidential election of 1860. First, it gathers together a great quantity of factual information about immigrants and politics on the eve of the Civil War. Naturally, the Germans receive the greatest amount of attention. Not only did they rival the Irish in numbers in 1860. but they were also the most diverse ethnic group in America. The essays of this volume also offer much data about politicians and their perceptions of the democratic process, about political parties and the social bases of their support, and about political …
