Ec77-868 Grain Pricing Alternatives, Lynn Lutgen
Ec77-868 Grain Pricing Alternatives, Lynn Lutgen
Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications
Grain marketing decisions during the 1950's and 60's were not as critical as in the past few years. During the 50's and 60's grain producers faced stable prices resulting from government production controls with prices fluctuating over the year perhaps 15 cents to 25 cents per bushel. As a result, producer marketing decisions had very little influence on revenue obtained by the firm. With more international involvements, producers have gone from an era of stable prices and large government surpluses to an era of unstable, widely fluctuating, and now declining prices for most major grains. The producer has two basic …

G77-336 Coccidiosis Of Cattle, Donald L. Ferguson
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide contains information on the identification, treatment, and prevention of coccidiosis in cattle.
Coccidiosis continues to be one of the major disease problems for cattle producers. It is caused by microscopic, one-celled parasites, chiefly of the genus Eimeria. Twenty-one species of Eimeria have been reported in cattle. Only two, Eimeria bovis and Eimeria zuernii, are regularly associated with clinical infections in the field.

Diagnosis Of Faults In Linear Tree Networks, Sharad C. Seth, K. L. Kodandapani
Diagnosis Of Faults In Linear Tree Networks, Sharad C. Seth, K. L. Kodandapani
School of Computing: Faculty Publications
The problem of fault detection and location in tree networks of two input EXCLUSIVE-OR (EOR) gates is considered. The fault model assumes that an EOR gate can change to any other function of its two inputs except the equivalence function. An efficient procedure for single fault location is presented. In the worst case the number of tests necessary to locate single faults is bounded by a linear function of the number of input variables. Constructive upper bounds are obtained for the number of tests to detect multiple faults. Optimality of these bounds is argued and extension of results to other …

G77-342 Sowbugs And Pillbugs, Arthur F. Hagen
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This publication covers the identification, life history, and control of sowbugs and pillbugs.
Homeowners working around shrubs, in the garden, or along the foundation of the house, frequently find little grayish colored bugs. They often describe them as looking like "little armadillos." What they are finding are sowbugs or pillbugs or both. These creatures are not insects, but belong to the same class of animals as crabs and shrimp.

G77-338 Open Burning (Revised March 1984), Donald E. Westover
G77-338 Open Burning (Revised March 1984), Donald E. Westover
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
People have been using fire in their cleanup chores for hundreds of years. One of the most common reasons for burning on the farm and in the city alike, has been to dispose of leaves and garden residues in the spring and fall of the year. Another common practice has been to burn tree limbs and stumps, fence posts, even old haystacks on the farm. Open burning has been done on a variety of scales, from jobs as small as burning the day's trash in the backyard burning barrel to jobs as large as burning wheat stubble after harvest.

The Unique Art Of Molas, Jane T. Anderson
The Unique Art Of Molas, Jane T. Anderson
Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
The San Bias Islands, one for each day of the year, lie on the Caribbean side of Panama in a chain of tiny atolls. The Cuna Indians, who left the mainland long ago seeking peaceful isolation, live a quiet communal life in the thatched houses that crowd these Islands. The Cunas have always been self-sufficient, raising their food, building their houses and canoes and making their tools, medicines and clothing. Their economy has long been based on the sale of coconuts, but some men work in the Canal Zone and some sail as merchant seamen and this income enables them …
Agrarian Reform In Eighteenth -Century Denmark, Lawrence J. Baack
Agrarian Reform In Eighteenth -Century Denmark, Lawrence J. Baack
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
AGRARIAN REFORM can be one of the most complex tasks of government. It has immense consequences for the social, political, and economic structure of a society and for this reason often encounters resistance from traditional elites. In addition, the interrelated questions of land, labor, capital, education, and marketing require a comprehensive response and any single element in this matrix may be ignored only at considerable risk. Finally, the institutional and psychological characteristics of rural society have often proved remarkably impervious to change, yet if government is to be sensitive to the cultural and psychological needs of the rural community it …

Aaron Pyle (1909-1972), Roy A. Young, Norman A. Geske, Jon Nelson, Jane Anderson
Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
INTRODUCTION
In the 1930's when Regionalism was the dominate style in American art, Aaron Pyle studied with one of its leading exponents, Thomas Hart Benton. From Benton he learned a method, a philosophy and a style. Aaron Pyle began each of his paintings with a series of sketches, preliminary drawings and grisaille studies. The first ideas were drawn in small thumbnail sketches less than two inches square. Second, were larger outline drawings on a grid for enlarging. Third, were tracings which were transferred to illustration board in preparation for a monochrome painting, which was the fourth step in the evolution …

Wright Morris Photographs, Jane T. Anderson
Sheldon Museum of Art: Catalogs and Publications
People do not appear in these photographs by Wright Morris, but they can be seen in the structures they built for living, working and worshiping, in the personal furnishings they collected to comfort their lives, in the pattern of their comings and goings marked by streets and sidewalks.
"It is my feeling that the absence of people in these photographs enhances their presence in the objects-the structures, the artifacts, even the landscape suggests its appropriate inhabitant."*
These vestiges of their existence tell more about the inhabitants than portrait photographs could. The artifacts in Eddie Cahow's Barbershop define Eddie …
Responsibility In Anthropology (A Review Of The Life And Culture Of Ecotopia By E. N. Anderson, Jr.), Prudence Sadler
Responsibility In Anthropology (A Review Of The Life And Culture Of Ecotopia By E. N. Anderson, Jr.), Prudence Sadler
Nebraska Anthropologist
A great deal of discussion in recent anthropological literature has been directed toward "relevance in anthropology". The issues which are confronted under the concept of relevance in anthropology would be perhaps more correctly labeled "responsibility in anthropology".
Relevance is defined as pertinence and, social applicability, in other words, the ability, to satisfy a need. The concept of responsibility encompasses this social applicability but also includes moral and rational accountability for one's conduct and obligations. Not only is it the ability to satisfy a need but the accountability for the actions taken to satisfy the need and the repercussions which follow. …
