Observations Of Puddling Butterflies In Maryland, Usa, Aydin Örstan
Observations Of Puddling Butterflies In Maryland, Usa, Aydin Örstan
The Taxonomic Report of the International Lepidoptera Survey
Six butterfly species in four families were observed puddling on damp soil, scat and carrion in various locations in Montgomery County, Maryland and on small islands in the Potomac River. Four species preferred damp soil to nearby mud, but the reason for this behavior is unknown. The presence of butterflies on small islands in the Potomac River is documented for the first time.

Development And Evaluation Of Lipid Nanoparticle-Encapsulated Dna Vaccines For Avian Influenza In Chickens, Sushmita Kumari
Development And Evaluation Of Lipid Nanoparticle-Encapsulated Dna Vaccines For Avian Influenza In Chickens, Sushmita Kumari
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Avian influenza virus (AIV) remains a major challenge for global poultry health, food production, and agricultural economies. Both low-pathogenic (LPAIV) and highly pathogenic (HPAIV) strains continue to circulate and evolve, creating an ongoing need for vaccines that can be updated quickly and provide broad protection. Although DNA vaccines offer a safe and flexible approach to rapidly incorporate new antigens, their use in poultry has been limited by poor delivery efficiency and the vulnerability of naked DNA to degradation. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), which have proven highly effective for mRNA delivery, offer a promising solution, yet their potential for DNA delivery in …

Characterization Of Sediment Loads And Size Distribution In Nebraska Roadway Runoff, Bruce I. Dvorak, David M. Admiraal, Pavel Shrestha
Nebraska Department of Transportation: Research Reports
The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) must manage sediment, and pollutant loads from roadway runoff to meet stormwater regulations. The SAFL Baffle, a hydrodynamic separator used by NDOT, depends on reliable estimates of total suspended solids (TSS) and particle size distribution (PSD). However, limited data exists for Nebraska roadways. In this study stormwater runoff was monitored at four NDOT-maintained sites, two in Lincoln and two in Beatrice, over 1.5 years to characterize TSS and PSD and to evaluate SAFL Baffle performance using the SHSAM model. Results showed large variability across sites and seasons. Median TSS ranged from 158 to 580 …
A Student-Centered Gis Classroom: Second Chances And Real-World Practice Teaching Portfolio For Nres218 Introduction To Geospatial Technologies, Ran Wang

¿Podemos …
Why Agtech Startups Fail? Evidence From Global Shutdown Patterns In 2025 And The Cost-Adoption Mismatch Effect, Ankit Chandra, Ishani Lal
Why Agtech Startups Fail? Evidence From Global Shutdown Patterns In 2025 And The Cost-Adoption Mismatch Effect, Ankit Chandra, Ishani Lal
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Presentations and White Papers
Agricultural technologies are widely seen as a driver for sustainability, resilience, and food-system transformation. Yet in 2025, agtech startup across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa experienced multiple shutdowns. Although each company closed for its own reasons, the failures highlight consistent underlying patterns. We analyze 18 publicly reported shutdowns across controlled-environment agriculture (CEA), robotics, insect protein, digital platforms, sensors, and ag-biotechnology. We find that most ventures struggled not with scientific feasibility but with economic and adoption dynamics at the farm level. We identify a Cost-Adoption Mismatch Effect, in which the capital and operational burden of a technology exceeds farmers’ capacity …

“No Ifs, Ands, Or Butts”: Analyzing Race And Gender In Sex And The City Through Black Feminist Theory, Daniella Orias
Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy
This article analyzes Season 3, Episode 5 of Sex and the City, “No Ifs, Ands, or Butts,” through the lens of Black feminist theory. It investigates how race and gender are constructed, stereotyped, and selectively represented within the episode’s narrative. The analysis focuses on two Black characters who were featured only in one episode of the series, Adeena and Chivon, and examines how the show portrays harmful stereotypes such as the angry Black woman (Adeena) and sexualized Black male (Chivon) in the episode. These limited and harmful representations are further scrutinized by the fact that the show is often …
Understanding How Erosion And Unit Thickness Alter The Deformation Of Fold-Thrust Belts, Kaitlyn E. Gallis, Caroline M. Burberry
Understanding How Erosion And Unit Thickness Alter The Deformation Of Fold-Thrust Belts, Kaitlyn E. Gallis, Caroline M. Burberry
Nebraska Academy of Sciences: Programs and Proceedings
When a collision of two tectonic plates occurs, fold thrust belts develop, which are widely recognized as the most common mode in which the crust accommodates shortening. Most analog models do not consider erosion when documenting fold thrust belt formation. The lack of experiments on this topic means there are limited consistent studies on the relationship between erosion and deformation. Preliminary experiments suggest that the typical forward breaking thrust sequence is altered by eroding the hinterland, something this experiment series aims to prove or disprove. The new contribution of this work is a systematic evaluation of the variation in initial …
Energy Value Of High-Moisture Corn In Feedlot Cattle Diets Derived Through Meta-Analysis, Alfredo Dicostanzo
Energy Value Of High-Moisture Corn In Feedlot Cattle Diets Derived Through Meta-Analysis, Alfredo Dicostanzo
Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports
Summary with Implications
Cattle feeders or their nutritionists who rely on high-moisture corn (HMC) use a standard adjustment to energy content of the diet based on observation or previous research reports. Because moisture content of HMC is the result of many field and harvest factors, a common adjustment to the energy value of HMC applied to all conditions may not be appropriate. The hypothesis that moisture content of HMC determines its energy concentration was tested. Through a meta-analysis, it was determined that feed intake was depressed while energy content of HMC increased at greater moisture content. A simple method to …

Analyzing The Impact Of Sunscreen Pollutants On The Development Of Lytechinus Variegatus, Christina M. Lillenas, Chesney J. Anderson, Ann M. Buchmann
Nebraska Academy of Sciences: Programs and Proceedings
Lytechinus variegatus or the variegated sea urchin is found in shallow, tropical waters. Lytechinus variegatus can be found in sandy reef beds, and sea grass, covered in algae and debris to protect itself from the UV rays and predators. Sea urchins play a crucial role in coral reef ecosystems. Sea urchins follow an omnivore diet, feeding on algae and phytoplankton. In coral reef ecosystems, sea urchins eat unwanted algae, allowing coral reefs to continue growing and thriving. Without the presence of sea urchins in coral reef communities, algae can negatively affect the growth and success of coral reefs. Sunscreen serves …

Touchdown: Upholding Precedent For Proper Venue In United States V. Lozoya, Mikayla Gross
Touchdown: Upholding Precedent For Proper Venue In United States V. Lozoya, Mikayla Gross
Nebraska Law Review
“The friendly skies are not always so friendly.” This Note supports the Ninth Circuit’s en banc opinion in United States v. Lozoya, which determined that the landing district is the proper venue for prosecuting in-flight crime. The Ninth Circuit’s en banc ruling overturned the requirement to prosecute in-flight crimes in flyover districts, which created practical and evidentiary burdens for the prosecution and defense. The establishment of the landing district as the proper venue for in-flight crime prosecution promotes practical adjudication, justice for victims, constitutionally sound trials for defendants, uniformity for inflight prosecution, and encompasses Congress’s intent when enacting 18 U.S.C. …
Restoring The Fair Cross-Section Guarantee Of The Constitutional Right To An “Impartial Jury”: A Critical Examination Of The Nebraska Court System’S Systemic Default And The Supreme Court’S January 2026 Reform Of The Juror Questionnaire And Jury Data Rules, Russell E. Lovell Ii, David S. Walker
Walker
Nebraska Law Review
This Article will analyze the comprehensive demographic jury data reforms adopted by the Nebraska Supreme Court through new Court Rules and a new Juror Qualification Form (“Questionnaire”) promulgated October 2024 (“January 2026 Reforms”) and effective January 1, 2026. The Court has embraced major reforms that are cause for optimism that the Court will continue the journey to reinvigorate the guarantee that juries be drawn from a fair cross-section of the community served by the trial court as required by the Sixth Amendment and the Nebraska Jury Selection Act of 1979 (“NJSA”).
The full significance of these reforms may not be …
Principle Over Pedigree: United States V. Rahimi, Post-Ratification History, And The Case For Justice Barrett’S Approach, Joel Myers
Nebraska Law Review
Four years ago, the Supreme Court revolutionized Second Amendment law in New York Rifle & Pistol Ass’n, Inc. v. Bruen by instituting a test concentrated on text, history, and tradition. To uphold a firearm regulation, the government must demonstrate a relevantly similar historical analogue. Shortly after, the Court affirmed but clarified its position in United States v. Rahimi by performing the Bruen analysis at a higher level of generality and rejecting a challenge to 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(8). The Court’s evolving Second Amendment jurisprudence offers fertile ground for the Court’s originalists to elucidate their perception of constitutional interpretation. In Rahimi, Justice …
When We Don’T Get Community Right In Restorative Justice Spaces: Cancel Culture And Failure To Transform, Aparna Polavarapu
When We Don’T Get Community Right In Restorative Justice Spaces: Cancel Culture And Failure To Transform, Aparna Polavarapu
Nebraska Law Review
This Article argues that community is a central but deeply misunderstood feature of restorative justice. Restorative justice asks us to understand harm as a break in relationship that creates obligations for the person harmed, the person who caused harm, and the community. Community is theorized to play a key role in working towards reintegration and social change, both goals of restorative justice. Yet in practice, community is often misused or underused in ways that weaken these goals. Practitioners are observing an increase in cancel culture actions by groups that claim affinity with restorative and transformative justice. However, by weaponizing the …

Restorative Justice Behind Bars: Evidence Supporting A Post-Adjudication Brief Intervention, Dennis E. Mcchargue Ph.D., Ashley Votruba, Casey N. Tisdale, Sarah M. Noone
Nebraska Law Review
This Article details a post-adjudication restorative justice intervention implemented in Nebraska during the 1990s. This Article summarizes research findings from samples of individuals in prison and on probation, demonstrating meaningful reductions in recidivism and harm. This brief restorative justice intervention is low-cost, group-based, and uses surrogate victim impact statements as opposed to victim-offender mediation. This intervention offers a realistic template for statutory and policy reform in jurisdictions that cannot implement more resource-intensive restorative models.
Evaluation Of Critical Shear Strength Of Soils In Nebraska Based On Revised Cpt, Chung R. Song, Bashar Al-Nimri, Basil Abu Al Sha'r, Dhurba R. Pandey, Jongwan Eun, Seunghee Kim
Evaluation Of Critical Shear Strength Of Soils In Nebraska Based On Revised Cpt, Chung R. Song, Bashar Al-Nimri, Basil Abu Al Sha'r, Dhurba R. Pandey, Jongwan Eun, Seunghee Kim
Nebraska Department of Transportation: Research Reports
This study evaluated the “Fully Softened Shear Strength (FSSS)” of soils in Nebraska based on a revised Cone Penetration Test(CPT) method. FSSS is a unique strength condition that soils show substantially reduced strength during rainy seasons, eventually causing failure of slopes and other structures.
The revised CPT was adapted to inject water at targeted depths, inducing controlled moisture infiltration and capturing real-time soil softening over designated intervals of 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Through tip resistance (qc) and sleeve friction (fs) measurements under “in-situ” and “wet” conditions, the test effectively identified fully disturbed/low strength zones around the sleeve. Simultaneous sampling …
The Use Of Recycled Plastic In Asphalt Pavements: Feasibility Study, Isabella Bueno, Robert Rea, Jamilla Teixeira
The Use Of Recycled Plastic In Asphalt Pavements: Feasibility Study, Isabella Bueno, Robert Rea, Jamilla Teixeira
Nebraska Department of Transportation: Research Reports
The plastics industry has been actively exploring new end-market opportunities for the more than 35 million tons of waste plastics generated annually. The use of recycled WP in asphalt presents an opportunity to improve pavement performance while reducing the growing amount of WP being landfilled or released into the environment. However, the use of WP in asphalt mixtures poses challenges due to variations in plastic composition and the presence of non-plastic contaminants. The absence of standardized procedures has resulted in inconsistent integration methods and unclear roles of WP within asphalt concrete (AC) mixtures. Therefore, the goal of this multiphase study …
